  1. Electric Cars and Brick Walls
Three major brick walls to be specific.
[1] Governments are addicted to the cash cow of oil and gas tax revenues. The recent bump up in gas prices have been a huge windfall to the government, when half of that immense wealth goes to government. Electric vehicle? No fuel tax? – – – No way!
[2] Employment disruption: Loss of jobs in engine block manufacturing; making of Radiators, oil, gas and water pumps, muffler and catalytic converters, fuel injector systems, gas tanks, fuel lines, ignition systems, Air oil and gas filter systems and rubber hoses galore.
[3] Big Auto profits: The endless complexity in all the elements in the conventional vehicle provides a guaranteed high price and on-going parts and repair profits to auto makers. When the auto is simplified to Electric motor, Charger – controller, power steering and brakes, the overall cost will drop to lower levels when volume and competition take effect.
Like everyone else in business, I like profits, but there are no profits to be had when other countries sell us the efficient cars we want. Toyota, [Prius], Honda, Volkswagen, BMW, Mazda, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai. Do our corporations have the same foot – dragging attitude that lost the British Motorcycle business to Japan?
We make many electric vehicles in North America, but most are of ugly design , some with three wheels, and most with no chance of widespread acceptance aside from the GM EV1 [discontinued] , and the Tesla Roadster, 90K, luxury sports model. Photos = http://TonyGuitar.blogspot.com

  2. You were doing good till you got to the British motorcycle gig – blew your cover. They lost out because they continued to be the biggest pieces of mechanical crap ever. The only bit of British wisdom in the last 60 years was NOT bailing them out, like the US did with their country bumkin cousins, Harley. 🙂

  3. Skip, Thank you for enforcing my point. The Polo playing earls ignored the need to improve and advance the British motorcycle.
Bikers grew weary of cranky electrics and sloppy machining that allowed many a crankcase to leak oil on the garage floor.
I never advocate the bailing out of any business. Only R&D and design advances are required to keep a bike popular.
Too much yachting, polo, and hobknobbing with Royals is not good for business. = TG

  4. It’s sickening!
“Republican In Name Only” (RINO) Senator Lincoln Chafee is about to scuttle the confirmation of John Bolton as Ambassador to the United Nations!
In fact, a vote that was supposed to occur just last week to advance the nomination of John Bolton — the tough-talking, no-nonsense U.S. Ambassador the United Nations — DID NOT happen because of Chafee’s opposition.
    You know Lincoln Chafee!
He’s the Rhode Island Senator who practically inherited his seat from his father — he has consistently worked AGAINST the conservative agenda that a majority of Americans want.
Chafee has fought AGAINST tax cuts, he thumbs his nose at demands to control out-of-control spending, he’s been a squish on national defense; you name the issue and Chafee’s name always comes up as an ally to the liberal opposition!
And now, he’s also the Senator who is working to defeat John Bolton’s confirmation!
It’s hard to deduce exactly what Chafee is scheming. Indeed, according to a survey released by the Hudson Institute just this week…
75% of Americans believe the U.N. is no longer “effective” and “needs to be held more accountable.”
71% believe the U.N. “needs to be considerably reformed.”
67% believe “there are too many undemocratic nations in the U.N. that do not care about promoting democracy and freedom.”
Only 37% believe the U.N. is “effective in PREVENTING wars and military conflicts.”
Only 32% believe the UN is “effective in ENDING wars and military conflicts.”
And, here’s the kicker: A majority of Americans, a whopping 57%, “now believe the United Nations should be scrapped and replaced if it cannot be reformed and made more effective,” according to the survey.
John Bolton’s views on the United Nations are in step with those of the American people. And during his recess appointment, Bolton has shown that he won’t back down to the U.N. bureaucrats and dictators who hate America.
Lincoln Chafee may THINK he has stopped Bolton’s nomination cold.
But Chafee forgot one very important thing.
He forgot about YOU! He forgot about the diligence of the American people!
And with your help — he’s going to THINK AGAIN!
One thing is certain: If Bolton isn’t confirmed in the next two weeks — there is a very good chance that he will be forced to step down and step aside, as his recess appointment will expire soon after Congress adjourns.
And if that happens, liberals like Teddy Kennedy and John Kerry and Kofi Annan will raise their glasses in celebration and whoop and holler with joy!
And we are just not ready to take defeat — not at the hands of a RINO Senator!
WE MUST TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW!

  5. Krauthammer: Attack on Iran Inevitable(“The decision is no more than a year away.”)
    NewsMax.com ^ | Sept. 15, 2006 | staff
Responding to a question on Iran, President Bush said on Tuesday: “It’s very important for the American people to see the president try to solve problems diplomatically before resorting to military force.” “Before” implies that the one follows the other, Charles Krauthammer notes in the Washington Post. “The signal is unmistakable. An aerial attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities lies just beyond the horizon of diplomacy.” Krauthammer weighs the costs of destroying Iran’s nuclear capabilities – while at the same time warning of the costs of doing nothing. The mullahs of Iran “are infinitely more likely to use these weapons than…
