ADSCALDONIA

Steve Janke

It is no secret that businesses in Caledonia are suffering because of the land dispute. The provincial government, run by the Liberals under Premier Dalton McGuinty, has offered to help.
In true Liberal fashion, they are offering to help with advertising.
Not with removing the barricades. Advertising.

Advertising contracted through a Liberal-friendly ad agency.

The head of the firm is Brian Torsney. His sister is Paddy Torsney, a former Member of Parliament for Burlington for the federal Liberals. Burlington is near Hamilton. From 1985 to 1989, she was a special assistant to David Peterson, at the time the Liberal premier of Ontario.
The same David Peterson who was assigned the task of negotiating on behalf of the province in the Caledonia dispute.

Update the print ads are now out…..

  1. I smell plain brown envelopes, on chairs, in restaurants, in Canada.
Have heard one of the ads–come to Caledonia to visit estate and home gardens–no mention if any of these homes are on Argyle Street or the 6th Line. No mention if there is police protection for the visitors. No mention if you are allowed to carry cameras. No mention of signage to tell you where the SN terrorists will and will not allow you go.
Who in their right mind would go there to be assaulted? Typical Liberal–throw money at it and it will go away. Too bad it is our money.
So many questions, so few answers.

  2. McWimpy is making Bob Rae look competent – and that’s saying something.
What the hell is (or isn’t) going through the mind of that damn fool premier anyway?

  3. What fun it would be to follow the Liberal candidate around during the next provincial election.

  4. That’s how liberals work….turn a crisis into a money laundering bonanza for the liberal party and all their friends…
Most of the Chretien crowd of thieves, have now joined the Ontario provincial liberals.
Hang on to your wallets folks, McDullty and his group of Gangster Socialists haven’t finished milking this cow yet.!

  5. Why isn’t this being covered in the MSM?
BTW Pleasse do not confuse me wit McGuilty, I know we have similar names (McWimpy).

  6. The Liberal’s have not only run out of ideas on what promises to make to the populace and not follow through on, but now they have run out of ideas on how to swindel our money out of our pockets and into theirs.
McGuilty is no different than the other buffons that just got the boot at the federal level.

  7. As wimpy pointed out, why isn’t this being covered in the Ontario MSM? Not a word of criticism about spending our money in this manner, Not a word that this is actually rewarding acts of terrorism. Not a word that the natives disobeyed a court order and violated our laws. No charges have been laid. They are ‘outside of our laws’ and our politicians are rewarding them. With our money.
And, why isn’t the opposition in Ontario speaking out about this? Not a word.
My concern is that this is typical Liberal style vote-buying and manipulation and that McGuinty is currently campaigning.
There’s no opposition to him. No-one will touch a ‘natives’ issue, for the Toronto latte crowd (who all live safely far away from the scene) would rise up in self-defining activist horror. So much for multiculturalism and its rejection of the law.

  8. Welcome to Canada comrade, here in Canada we have a Trudeau inspired, Soviet-Styled version of Gangster Socialism, those of you, who have experienced this system before, will readily recognise the practice of….
    ..ONLY PARTY MEMBERS PROSPER..
So, get used to it folks, if you want something from your liberal member of parliment…
remember to call him ..GODFATHER..and you may have to invite him to dinner once in a while.

  9. I know a way to save the Ontario taxpayer $10,000!!! Give me the advertizing contract for $200,000 and I’ll put up the prettiest billboard you ever did see.
    p.s. Kate, I could use a sub-contractor for the artwork… say $50,000?

  10. Names: Bob Rae, David Peterson, Tim Murphy(sic), Robin Sears, Eleanor Caplan, Sean Conway, Ontario Hydro, junkets to China (smell Maurice Strong?), Warren Kinsella, etc., …
The cozy, comfy fur of the Peterson/Rae/McGuinty socialists wraps Ontario in a muffled web of sleaze, payoffs, graft, corruption, criminality…
The pious sanctity of the socialist thieves is odious.
Peterson arranged the seduction/marriage of Martin/Stronach with Tim Murphy. Peterson, an oily fixer/mouthpiece, for the Librano$, is an old hand at political corruption.
    The downloads here from kinsellamusings:
“Mr. Sears was promoted [by Bob Rae, NDP] to the high-profile position of agent-general in January 1991.
He was originally posted to Tokyo as deputy agent-general by Ontario’s former Liberal[Peterson]government.”

  11. Speaking of Ontario Hydro, IIRC the Liberals legislated a price cap on electricity and have not begun construction on any new sources to supply the electricity the province needs.
That chicken will come home to roost.

  12. torsney? TORSNEY ?????
    ah jeez. we’re doomed !!!
the very first time I laid eyes on that trougher she was standing on the corner of guelph line and the street that went past the eaton’s store mall.
    that’d be crouton’s 1st or 2nd term.
it was cold weather and she was waving at the passing traffic with a goofy election sign and I thought, this woman is desperate. or crazy in the head. later I found out it was both.
yea gods the plague is spreading instead of retreating.

  13. Thank god my doctor put me on anti-depressants, else I would feel way worse than I feel now.
But this has been building for years now – cops ignoring intimidation on picket lines; farmers, truckers, and taxi drivers bringing traffic to a halt at various times around Toronto; wildcat strikes that never result in a day’s jail time; etc.
What’s frustrating is that people of a libertarian bent (e.g. me) feel that government’s supreme, and perhaps sole, responsibility is the administration and preservation of the rule of law. Get out of the schools, get out of welfare, but for god’s sake, keep the peace. And that doesn’t mean bribing the crooks and forcing the innocent out of their homes.

  14. Ah-hah! These Liebrano$$$… they’re all alike, the whole bloody crapload of ’em!
Ethnic cleansing, lawlessness, bribery, cronyism, nepotism, ADSCAMMERY, what’s next?
See, Ontario? The provincial Liebrano$$$ are exactly the same as the federal ones. You want a little Mr. Dithers? You know you need to get rid of these bastards before they destroy Ontario!
They’re wasting your tax dollars… remember when they broke their promise not to raise taxes? Well, now you know what they wanted it for! Corrupt Liebranoist nonsense!

  15. ET:
As wimpy pointed out, why isn’t this being covered in the Ontario MSM? Not a word of criticism about spending our money in this manner, Not a word that this is actually rewarding acts of terrorism.
You are entirely correct sir. Good post.
I concur completely. I would go further. Where were they while Billions where being stolen?
How many headlines have we seen showing this pay out to criminals? How many stories about how our Court system has been taken over by ideologues?
If I where a visitor from another world. I would conclude the MSM is just an arm of certain governments. A propaganda machine who’s high priests decide the daily omens we should heed.
Where was the MSM during the gun registry ? While we where being ripped off & illegal confiscation. These morons where making up excuses for the disappearing monies.
Now they claim to be an official opposition since this Government will not give them the entitlements they have so fallen in love with. Perks, power & loads of cash.
The press does not work to inform the public. Its a business run by ego’s, who think they run the world. If not rule than influence the course of human perception.
In short the MSM to a great, degree has become a bought, corrupted by trinkets & titles. In other words its abandoned its watchdog function to become propagandists. For whom ever pays them homage or graft.
Of course this does not include most of them. There just used by the cardinals of print or the word smiths of seduction. To force there or there patrons ideals on us, in the guise of impartiality.
I ask. Where you as Canada was dying from the pillage of fools ? The denigration of this Nation? The worship of these socialists at the alter of Fidel or any other Monster?
My personnel conclusion is. Never trust the press nor any other media until you know there motives. They serve themselves, not the public. Never forget this, no matter what there politics are.

  16. I was in Caledonia yesterday on business. A beautiful Southern Ontario Town nestled on the banks of the majestic Grand River.
I drove all the way up and down Argyle Street and saw nothing but everybody going about their business and enjoying the July weather. There’s even a commercial construction project underway. My point being that don’t believe everything you read or hear…gossip has a way of magnifying things way out of proportion…sure, behind the idyllic picture there’s a storm brewing but to look at it you would have no idea.
Now for all the MSM ranting…the BIG question is, why isn’t that conservative asswipe rag the Toronto Sun reporting on Liebrano$ McGuinty Ad nonsense? Maybe they are but it’s better to rant when you only have selective facts. Isn’t it?

  17. David Brown, of course you realize that, for example, Tel Aviv seems normal, idyllic, bustling, busy… until some brainwashed Islamic jihadist kid blows himself up in the middle of the crowd…
You say to not believe everything you read or hear… well, I would recommend you look more closely, more completely, for a longer time… be more analytical… don’t just take a glance and pretend everything’s normal, denying all the stuff that’s been going on in and around Caledonia for months now.
Jeez… leftists… they just don’t want to acknowledge reality. They just look for the flowers on the battlefield and use that to say, “Look… flowers. Everything’s fine. What war? Oh, that guy? He died of natural causes… his head just fell off by itself.”
Note to editor: if this was too harsh in your judgement, then just delete it. I won’t mind.

  18. Canadian Sentinel said:”He died of natural causes… his head just fell off by itself.”
Hey “Pirate of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” opens at the movies tonight.
I expect heavy attendence by all LIEBerals of significance.

  19. I saw Paddy on that street corner as well, soliciting voters. Almost lost control, and steered the car that way. Oops
As for advertising, well the radio aids in the local area open with sounds of herons and water splashs, then goes on about the beauty of Caledonia….
Not sure how that helps Caledonia, guys fishing in the Grand River are still showing up, so I guess the bait seller across from the Grand might benefit, not much else to do in Caledonia

  20. Premier McSquishy will lose the next election because of the way he has handled Caledonia. To think you can allow a particular group of people to break the law and instruct the police not to enforce it shows the kind of leader McSquishy is. Typical Liberal. He needs to be put out of office for all of his broken promises and for the failure to protect the citizens of Caledonia from lawlessness. Goodbye McSquishy.

  21. Liberal corruption is used simply to accent their blatant incompetence in public policy, it’s almost unbelievable. It is unbelievable that anybody would vote for the Liberals unless they were being directly paid off by the Party. It’s scary knowing how many Canadians support theft, corruption and mismanagement.

  22. It’s a shame, Mr. Brown, that you simply observed the streets while cruising in your car instead of actually investigating the situation by walking around and speaking with those involved and affected. Did you by chance even drive far enough to witness the blockade proudly flying the Palestinian flag? Did you notice the perpetual police presence?
I travelled there myself last weekend to get some firsthand information, and I wholeheartedly agree that from the car everything seemed just fine (aside from the barricade, which strangely did nothing to magnify the “beautiful July weather” or impose upon me the prospect of “business as usual”). At first glance I was pleasantly surprised at how much everything seemed to have died down… Then I actually pulled over, left the isolation of my car behind, and spoke with people on both sides of the barricade. Apparently things haven’t always appeared or been so “serene”. My conversation with a native who claimed to have led the charge against the personnel from CH news and helped to topple a hydro tower, for example, was most enlightening.
That said, I don’t want to give the impression that people were hostile toward me. Quite the opposite, actually. Almost everyone was courteous to the extreme, and I was even invited to dine at the occupation site (though I was warned to steer clear of the deeper camps, it being night and me being white).
I’m just baffled that you honestly believe you put your finger on the pulse of the town, the occupation, and the situation itself by driving “all the way up and down Argyle Street”. If I drive by the Rogers Centre I don’t pretend to have watched the Blue Jays play. Or, perhaps more fitting to your experience, I don’t therefore consider myself an expert on how they’ve been playing all season and dismiss the assessments by scouts and coaches as gossip.
Next time you’re out that way, instead of doing a drive-by witnessing, maybe you should leave the air-conditioned comfort of your vehicle and experience the real weather. Many storms have already hit, and the atmosphere waiting for the next only appears idyllic to an insulated fool. (Hi Dalton!)
As for this: “Now for all the MSM ranting…the BIG question is, why isn’t that conservative asswipe rag the Toronto Sun reporting on Liebrano$ McGuinty Ad nonsense? Maybe they are but it’s better to rant when you only have selective facts. Isn’t it?” (italics mine)
Please tell me that’s a dashing attempt at self-deprecating irony rather than a continued display of sanctimonious ignorance.

  23. Whenever I see this picture of the bridge burning, I think of Missippi Burning. Except in this case it seems as though it’s the Six Nations wearing the covers and doing the burning etc. All the advertising in the world isn’t going to fix the fundamental problems our Country faces. Appeasing these terrorists is just the start of escalating claims/tensions countrywide. And the ad “scamming” is proof that some people just don’t learn or don’t care.
Actually David, when it comes to MSM, there has been very little ranting. The situation at Caledonia went largely un-reported until the past month when people were physically attacked. And yes you shouldn’t believe everything you read, or don’t read. Nor should you presume to put yourself in place of the locals, who pay taxes, own homes and businesses and expect a safe community for their family, policed and governed the same as any other town in Ontario or Canada. Walk a mile in another man’s shoes…
I don’t know about you or anyone else, but I tend to notice a lot more when I’m a passenger along for the ride, then when I’m focused on the bumper in front of me.

  24. Saga, would you mind defining that huge, barricade-like thingamabob with all the flags and the ever-present sentries that’s erected alongside the highway?
The barricade blocking the highway itself is gone, sure, but unless that non-descript whatchamacallit blockading the occupation site has also been removed within the past week, to borrow from you: the barricades ARE NOT down.

  25. David Brown-have you visited Seoul Korea lately? I think you should-then come back and tell us that all appears normal/business as usual and that we shouldn’t be believing everything that we read and hear coming from the North. You will even notice construction there-a lot of construction.
When my father was a young boy, in Poland, all appeared normal and well until the German troops armed in their finest, kicked down the doors of his house and marched him alongside his brothers and sisters into their truck, separated them and threw them into work camps in Germany. There was lots of information out there but most people did not know how to respond to something so unpleasant and so shocking so they ignored things and went about their daily routine. Nobody wants to believe it will happen to them.
All appeared normal at 9 am on September 11 too in NYC-business as usual-there were warnings but again, people ignored them-there must have been people who said “don’t believe everything you hear or read”.
Real leadership comes from people who DO listen and who aren’t afraid to respond during a crisis.

  26. Just to keep things current, I’ve seen a video from July 10th showing the barricade to the occupation site dissembled.
Apparently that complete opening of the road was temporary, though, according to a resident who frequents the Caledonia Occupation Discussion Board, writing on July 11th:
“I took a drive by DCE this afternoon.
Only part of the barricade is down…. the hydro tower has been moved, that is it !!
There are 4 large cement blocks across the driveway with enough space to maybe get a vehicle down the middle of the driveway. The makeshift tents are still up on the left side of the driveway and vehicles parked up the right side (when looking into DCE). there are also large wooden reels (from wires I would suspect) in the entrance….
The only think I noticed gone is the hydro tower . . . but right [now] it’s just been taken back and [is] laying by the houses.”
For the sake of clarity, DCE is the Douglas Creek Estates, which I refered to previously as the occupation site.

  27. I am an American who spends many weeks a year vacationing in Dunnville and I am watching the Caledonia situation with great interest. One of the things that strikes me is how liberalism is the same everywhere and must be fought at all costs. Example: Whenever I read an article about this Six Nations controversy, I notice someone has to declare they are not a racist before they can give an “anti-Six Nations” view. This is because liberalism is propelled by “white guilt” and the fear that anyone opposing liberal policies will be called “racist, bigoted, homophobes.” It doesn’t matter that liberal policies are NEVER successful. Liberal politicians play on this guilt and line their pockets with kick-backs in the form of “contributions” from these different unions and groups and we pay for it with our tax dollars.
Your USA friends are in a parallel but different situation. The citizens of the USA are being told that illegal aliens flooding into our country have all the same rights as US citizens. Average Americans are outraged but you wouldn’t know it from the MSM. Even our President Bush says stupid stuff like, “DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH.” Really? Are football players told to play their own game because that will help them win? Ridiculous.
Without “common culture, language, and borders”, a country will fall. Just look at western Europe. Who the heck would want to follow their example and yet that is what we in the New World appear to be doing.
The Islamofacists DO believe in a common culture – unfortunately to the exclusion of all others. While we are fighting amongst ourselves, they are laughing at us and watching while we destroy ourselves from within with political correctness. At some point Canada and the USA, need to stop this insanity, and prepare for the really big battles that lie ahead.
May God Bless Canada and give her strength.
    Your American friend,
    Kelly
