Cartoon wars – South Park goes where the New York Times, Toronto Star and CBC fear to tread.
The South Park show ends on a cliffhanger, as the people of America begin burying their heads in the sand to prove their sensitivity to Muslims (they won’t hear the show or see the show with their heads buried, get it?), while a voiceover announces that South Park is also a two-part series, and begins asking that Adam West-Batman style of questioning: “Will the people of America be safe? Will Fox let the Family Guy air? Will they show Mohammed Uncensored? Find out next week to see if Comedy Central pusses out.”

Tamil Tigers to be added to Canada’s list of terrorist groups.

But:
‘…while the Tigers were placed on the list, the government stopped short of listing any of the terrorist group’s Canadian front organizations…
“It is estimated that between one and two million dollars are raised annually in Canada, making it one of the largest contributors of funds to the LTTE worldwide,” according to a classified CSIS report circulated in 2000. “The LTTE has traditionally raised these monies through the use of fronts groups.”..
The Anti-Terrorism Act allows Cabinet to designate not only terrorist groups but also the front organizations that support them, but none are named in the latest listing.
CSIS has claimed that eight front organizations support the LTTE in Canada, as well as several front companies that are used to harness financial and political support for the civil war effort in Sri Lanka…’

New to the SDA dialogue…be gentle:
Has anyone had a chance to read the revolting editorial from Heather Mallick at CBC (http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_mallick/20060407.html)? So very vile, bitter and nauseating! First Zolf claiming that the media controls the government of Canada and now this tripe…ye gads!
For those who don’t think we have a problem in Canada, do read:
“Cold Terror – How Canada Nurtures and Exports Terrorism Around the World”. (Stewart Bell, 2004).
There is much more information here than the average person is ever able to find out and a whole lot more than we will ever hear about from the MSM.
Even the slightest move towards legislating against terrorist groups/ money laundering, or “charitable” organizations that are fronts for terror or organized crime should be applauded.
If people in Canada choose to support some cause overseas, fine – but don’t do it in Canada by extortion, intimidation, or worse. Worse yet, don’t allow it to be done indirectly with taxpayers money or with promises/delivery of a “block vote”
Even the slightest move towards extradition of people who are foolish enough to associate with those known to have terrorist connections should also to be applauded. The last 15 years has seen nothing but slippage in all of this.
Meanwhile, The Globe has replaced Horrible Heather Mallick with an ideological clone, Camilla Gibb.

Ima Hassle:
“revolting” sounds about right, offensive and ignorant will do as well. Reading her article its pretty obvious she is spewing out strictly her opinion with little thought or research to support it. She actually states that she “researched” part of the article by watching The Sopranos. What an idiot! Ahhh…what a country we live in, that our tax dollars support shit like this.
I’m not a fan of South Park, but my kids and their friends are. I have to admit the only relevant social commentary on any of the prime time “comedies” is from the cartoon shows, Simpsons, SP, family Guy. No other show has the courage to point out the many absurdities and hypocrisies prevalent in the MSM.
I can’t and won’t read Heather Mallick – a monumentally ignorant and prejudiced individual. If they’ve replaced her with a clone, then, their agenda is to promote Mallick’s mindset of ignorant anti-Americanism. And – that seems to be the Canadian MSM of today.
They are our ‘current generation’, raised within Trudeau’s ignorant utopianism, which saw Canadians moved into a Platonic Cave, where reality is what you, yourself, define. [In Plato’s Cave, the population lived in a cave and defined reality as the images they themselves made on the walls as shadows from their fires. That is, their reality was what they themselves made.]
Trudeau moved Canadians into the safe isolation of a self-defined Cave – which saw us self-define ourselves as bilingual (we are not); as ‘peacekeepers’ (?? doesn’t there first have to be a peace, in order to keep it?), as tolerant (hah! – tell that to the American bashers)..
In reality, we are isolationist, ignorant of world affairs, intolerant – both in our anti-Americanism and our ghettoizing different cultures into self-determined, isolate ‘blocs’ instead of integrating them.
I get the sense also that the MSM views the current Conservative gov’t as a ‘blip’, an accident to be scoffed at, while We Canadians wait for the True Governing Party, the Liberals, to regroup and resume their Rightful Role.
That is why the MSM is constantly attacking the CPC as ‘American’..After all, anti-Americanism is a basic aspect of the Liberal Mode of Canadian Life.
However, it is important to note that the Liberal Party, has NO policies, no platform, no ideology. Since it moved into its self-defined ideology as Governance By Right, that sense of ‘hereditary right’ has been their only platform. They have no policies, no ideology, other than this assertion of their right.
To vote against them, is to be ‘unCanadian’.
Now- can they continue as a political party, with this one and only one item as their platform?
I just got out of bed and read Healther Falli’s Pravda item and it inspired this poem. (I make no claim to being and actualy poet)

If heather mallick has her way
most of us would all be gay
Bitchy women would rule the day
Our lives would all be dull and grey
Humans can continue to breed
With freshly jerked-off male seed
We’ll all have only what we need
No more incentive, no more greed
Procreation will be by decree
No more of this, happy and free
We will live our lives on bended knee
line up for food, never cut a tree
We will all have to get up off our ass
There will no longer be the sale of gas
A Matriarchal world will come to pass
Manly men are okay to harass
What about the girly girl
They still like to give men a whirl
They’re not just about vinegar and pearl
Heather Mallick, you make me hurl

PET – a communist, a Quebec separtist, an atheist, a brilliant manipulator who managed to fool the Liberal party and then all Canadians into thinking he was their saviour while the long game was to make Socialism the mantra of our democratic country.
He, and the Liberal leader after him, Chretien, who knelt as a disciples at his feet have confused the very social fabric of our country and burdened us with a $500 billion national debt which was nil before Trudeau.
This is the very socialist yoke that has destroyed the spirit of the Cubans, the Chinese, the …yet this is the mantra that today’s journalists cut their teeth on. They are still part of PET’s propaganda machine.
It is like a brainwashed army rewarded with promotions if you chant the socialist chant. 59 unelected appointed Senators have been journalists. 3 Governeor Generals. Many many ambassadors and powerful board appointments.
This is the “gift” from the grateful socialist Liberals to media who keep the great brainwashed masses in line with the party mantra.
Conservatives threatening to make these kinds of appointments on merit? Audits? Accountability?
The death knell to the lucrative retirement ambitions of the loyal media troops who have served the socialist cause with such unquestioning ferver. The natural ruling party, Truedeau -esque Liberals (Iggy types) MUST be reinstated to restore the balance of the socialist media’s power over our country and our minds.
But, oops, the internet is really really putting a wrinkle in their plans. We no longer have to eat the socialist pap they feed us. We can call them on their bias and outright fabrications.
Maybe, just maybe, after 40 years of destructive socialism we can get our country back-the true north strong and free from the power mongers who seek to divide us and conquer.

Brutal Torture Camp Turns Afghan Boys Pro-America
Maybe instead of shutting down the Guantanamo Bay prison, it should be converted to a summer camp for Middle Eastern youths, where they could learn to love America: Cuba? It was great, say boys freed from US prison camp. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)
…
On January 29, Asadullah and two other juvenile prisoners were returned home to Afghanistan. The three boys are not sure of their ages. But, according to the estimate of the Red Cross, Asadullah is the youngest, aged 12 at the time of his arrest. The second youngest, Naqibullah, was arrested with him, aged perhaps 13, while the third boy, Mohammed Ismail, was a child at the time of his separate arrest, but probably isnt now.
Tracked down to his remote village in south-eastern Afghanistan, Naqibullah has memories of Guantanamo that are almost identical to Asadullahs. Prison life was good, he said shyly, nervous to be receiving a foreigner to his familys mud-fortress home.
The food in the camp was delicious, the teaching was excellent, and his warders were kind. Americans are good people, they were always friendly, I dont have anything against them, he said. If my father didnt need me, I would want to live in America.
Asadullah is even more sure of this. Americans are great people, better than anyone else, he said, when found at his elder brothers tiny fruit and nut shop in a muddy backstreet of Kabul. Americans are polite and friendly when you speak to them. They are not rude like Afghans. If I could be anywhere, I would be in America. I would like to be a doctor, an engineer or an American soldier.

Weregild (Alternative spellings: wergild, wergeld, weregeld, etc.) was a reparational payment usually demanded of a person guilty of homicide or other wrongful death, although it could also be demanded in other cases of serious crime.
[edit]
Overview
The payment of weregild was an important legal mechanism in early northern European societies, such as those of the Vikings, and Anglo-Saxons; the other common form of legal reparation at this time was blood revenge. The payment was typically made to the family or to the clan. The word means, literally, “man price”. If these payments were not made, or refused by the offended party, a blood feud would ensue.
The size of the weregild in cases of murder was largely conditional upon the social rank of the victim. Thralls and slaves technically commanded no weregild, but it was commonplace to make a nominal payment in the case of a thrall and the value of the slave in such a case
Daltoon McGimpy became Premier of Oinktario, thanks to the Federal Glibs- so he takes his orders from them. (There is a reason, why the Mafia chose to make their CDN headquarters in Montreal, Quebec- have you figured it out yet?)
Yup, you’re right, ET. Since the Trudeapianization of Canada, we’ve been making it up as we go along–and not doing a very good job of it after too many years of Librano rule–and are truly “isolationist, ignorant of world affairs, and intolerant.”
When I was hitch hiking through Europe in 1971, I much preferred my travelling companions to be American. They were savvy, could talk politics, had informed opinions, were generous, fun, and funny. None of them were the stereotypical “Marthas” or “Harrys.”
On the other hand, most of the Canadians I travelled with–as seldom as possible, but when you’re on the road and need a hitching partner your choices are somewhat limited–were almost uniformly politically uninformed, smugly and knee-jerk anti-American, triumphantly pro-Trudeau (why? because he was “cool”), and boring. I ditched them as soon as I could, and kept in touch with a number of the Americans I’d met for years afterwards.
I’m not saying the U.S. is perfect and that some of their triumphalism doesn’t get a little tiresome at times, but I admire their standing up for democratic freedoms and for putting their money and their military power where their mouths are. We’re in a global battle with a ferocious enenmy that would like to see all of us living under medieval-like conditions WITH OUR ENEMY IN CHARGE. I’d be wearing a burkha and so would my daughters. The Librano$ never seemed to get it: Guys, we’re fighting the battle of our lives–or we should be–so get with the program. Yes, Mr. Martin, Mr. Graham, Scotty Brison, and company, in war, soldiers die, a very sad but salient fact. But if we’re not willing to stand up and die for something, as the saying goes, we’ll fall for anything.
Fortunately, PMSH and his party do get it, which hopefully means an openness to world affairs and an end to our isolation on the world stage and our special brand of Canadian intolerance.
Re the brilliant Southpark episode: This is the post I sent to Political Pit Bull, the American site where I saw the clip:
“I’m a Canadian visitor from small dead animals blog. I LOVED the clip–and, being stirred by the passion of the patriot, made exactly the wrong prediction! Are you sure the audience in the cartoon was American? The wimpy, head-in-the-sand reaction was quite typically Canadian, I’m afraid. We need to smarten up, which we’ve done, by default–hey, we’re Canadians!–for the time being, by voting in a minority Conservative government led by the resolute, adult, America-appreciating Prime Minister, Stephen Harper. We also published the Danish cartoons via the non PC publication, Western Standard–which has now been hauled before Canada’s version of a kangaroo court, a human rights (sic) commission, at the instigation of a radical Muslim Canadian, who, in my opinion, is abusing his citizenship. Kyrie eleison and God bless America.”

Hello, “Ima Hassle” from above at April 8, 2006 10:49 AM:
I went and read Ms. Mallick’s clearly unhinged-moonbat diatribe.
So she’s an apologist for the unhinged-moonbat-tenured-professor who said we should have the majority of the world population killed off via disease and says she agrees with him. Claims he was taken “out of context”? Sure he was. And I’m Shania Twain’s lucky hubby.
And her Christianophobia was quite transparent. Here we go again with a stupid, screeching moonbat affixing the pejorative “extreme” to the word “Christians”, which she did more than once, mind y’all.
I wouldn’t do a post on her. These people, unless they go way too far, don’t deserve the coverage, except to be used as examples to demonstrate how and why leftists cannot be taken seriously. After all, leftists are stupid. They sound pompous and pretentious, using big, fancy words and getting angry, but I’ve found them to be lacking in cerebrality and substance. Their ability to comprehend complex matters seems to have never developed beyond that which they had as children. And I’m not trying to be funny. I’m convinced of it. They often demonstrate they have the intelligence of children!
Heather Mallick is just another unhinged moonbat working for, big surprise, the Christianophobic Bureau of Communofascists (CBC).
Another reason to push for Mr. Harper to do something about this boondoggle sanctuary for neocommunists and left-wing extremists.

Eight Terrorists Go to Allah
Israel seems determined to teach the Palestinians not to fire rockets from Gaza, with the only kind of tutoring they understand: Israeli Strikes Kill 8 Militants in Gaza.
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Two Israeli air strikes killed eight Palestinian militants Saturday in the latest signs that Israel has stepped up its retaliation for Palestinian rocket fire from Gaza since the Islamic militant group Hamas assumed power last week.
Six Palestinian militants were killed and five wounded when Israeli aircraft fired missiles after nightfall at a training camp in central Gaza, Palestinian officials said.
The Israeli military confirmed it carried out an attack against a Fatah camp that it said was used for weapons training and planning attacks against Israel. +

BY ADAM KIRSCH

The publication of a new work by a writer killed in the Holocaust happens often enough that we can lose sight of the miracle involved in every such resurrection. It is not just the sheer improbability of a manuscript’s survival that commands our attention, remarkable though it may be – from Anne Frank’s diary, rescued by a family friend, to Kazimierz Sakowicz’s “Ponary Diary,” buried in empty lemonade bottles in 1944 and published in English just last year. More important is the historical, even the metaphysical victory that each recovered story represents. One of the first crimes of the Nazis was the obliteration of Jewish voices and words, through book-burning, censorship, and the imprisonment and murder of writers. Erasing the Jewish perspective from history was the necessary prelude to erasing the Jews themselves from history. That is why steal ing back a manuscript from oblivion represents a decisive victory over Nazism, a reassurance that no evil is so powerful that it can shape history in its own image.
“Suite Francaise” (Alfred A. Knopf, 400 pages, $25), by the French novelist Irene Nemirovsky, is the latest book to be so redeemed. Nemirovsky’s name is unknown in the English-speaking world, but in France between the wars she was a popular and prolific writer. Her first novel, “David Golder,” written in 1929 when she was 26 years old, was made into a hit movie the next year. “David Golder,” with its stinging portrait of a rich Jewish businessman and his selfish, grasping wife, was Nemirovsky’s revenge on her own family and milieu. Her father was a wealthy banker in Tsarist Russia, her mother a vain, promiscuous socialite, whom she loathed. + more

Certainly all these derrogatory epithets are innaccurate where the Bush record is concerned. He and his administration have been a totaly let down to me as a conservative with the superfluous debt spending, stagnent war entanglements that are also debt financed….the incivility of police state legislating to deal with the polemic domestic terror problem…reinstating Klinton civilian gun bans…the open southern border… his indifference to 20 million illegal aliens, continued tariff-free capital going to China..the list of neglect is long.
Although I do not buy the foamy mouthed left’s characterization of Bush as some demon…he HAS proven to be a neglectful president devoid of prioratizing pressing domestic issues…the greatest of which is the increased debt load he has saddled the tax payer with and the illegal immigrants he has allowed to degenerate the quality of middle class life in the US….perhaps his financial supporters need a cheap labor pool so he blind eyes the open Mexican border problem.

“PET – a communist, a Quebec separtist, an atheist, a brilliant manipulator who managed to fool….”
Dennis,
What is wrong with being an athiest you bigotted jackass?
There is NO athiests in foxholes. An athiest is someone without any conviction but probably someone who should be convicted? One of the biggest problems in this country is what the athiests have done to it.
FREE …thanks for demonstrating your utter ignorance and lack of respect for another’s belief also….just another religious bigot.
there’s a very good reason why the Libs were in power for sooo long. It was because of the disaster that was Mulroney and friends. Chubbs McHarper is even more brutal than Pal Brian. He’s also Alliance and an apparent Bushbot. The Liberals needed to be kicked in the stones. I only hope Chubbs isn’t allowed to damage this fine country (all of it, not just darling Alberta) before they get their act together. Liberal media bias??? Please…you only think that when you compare it to the very right leaning American MSM. If a turd is a turd, the Canadian media will say so. Sorry Big (and I do mean BIG) Stevie McHarper:(
I can’t believe it. I sent an email to the PM and got a response. I sent many emails to the last one and since they were not pats on his back I never got so much as an acknowledgement. So, maybe our new employees will do as we tell them and get rid of the communist brainwashing conspiracy.
Well, Coach Hat (1:53 p.m., April 9), it’s a free country so you’re entitled to your opinion. But what rock have you just slithered out from under?
You can’t detect a pro-Liberal bias in the Canadian MSM: at the CBC? at the Toronto Star? Julie Van Dusen, Neil MacDonald, and Susan Bonnar, like Stephen Harper and the CPC? As someone remarked in an earlier post, if anything positive is said about PMSH or his party members on the CBC, it is followed by a but… or a however… with a long stream of negatives ensuing.
Maybe you have to have a handle on some of the current issues of the day in order to see how Liberal-friendly the MSM are. If, for instance, you recognize that a parent staying home to care for their own child(ren) is in almost every instance a better child care arrangement for children (ask any teacher; they’ll tell you that within the first week of school they can tell which students have a parent at home and which ones have come from a daycare situation), then you’ll be able to assent to the logic–and the preferability–of money going directly to parents TO GIVE THEM CHOICE in childcare rather than being put into a publicly funded universal daycare program which doesn’t give stay-at-home parents any choice and, by the way, would bankrupt the country.
But how many organs of the MSM in the past 15 or 20 years have supported anything BUT a universal daycare system? Except for Ted Byfield’s The [Alberta and BC] Report and now the Western Standard (and, come to think of it, they’re not exactly mainstream), nearly all of the MSM have backed the feminist view of childcare: get women out into the workplace so they can have real power=economic power and get the taxpayer to fund childcare in institutional daycares.
That’s just one example. I could name many more.
I guess if you think the MSM hasn’t got a Liberal/liberal bias your rock must be orbiting somewhere WAY OUT in left field. Keep reading this blog and you might find yourself getting educated.
So, Coach Hat. You seem to be the same person as Coach (on one of Kate’s other postings). When I clicked on both names I got the same message–and was “led” to a page that “cannot be displayed.” Hmmm…
Why change your name?
I want to thank all the lib leftists for teaching me new adjectives and possibly some nouns. I thought an athiest was someone with no belief in God but now I read they do have beliefs. What are they. We are bigots if we call them athiests, so what are they when they insult the Christians.
Good point, Mary T. I was thinking the same.
Canadian Observer is clearly a troll. A leftist one, no doubt.
Best to ignore them if you cannot control the agenda and steer the discussion. There’s no point in trying to debate them, as they always try to change the subject and inject irrelevant questions or statements or just slander us.
Leftists are clearly incapable of accepting diversity of thought and expression, unless it’s their own.
By the way, we’re not allowed to feed the trolls.
I recently had leftist trolls on my blog, but I stood my ground and never took any bait. I told them to stick to the point of the post and not change the subject to suit their agenda. They quickly gave up. Haven’t seen them since, oh, Friday.
Don’t get them excited. Just as you’re not supposed to look mad dogs in the eye, else it excites them.
Let’s stick to politics, people. Theism and atheism (if that’s what “athiest” refers to) are even more nebulous and visceral subjects, with even less likelihood of sensible discussion.
New Kid, childcare is a poor proof for your MSM-bias case. $120 taxable per child does not buy childcare for a month in any jurisdication I’m aware of. It would take a lot more to permit Mommy to stay home and the family to forego the second income for six years, even should Mommy have no career pretensions. You can’t blame journalists for pointing out that obvious reality; if they merely saluted such an inadequate measure, I’d want to know why.
By the way, why are the Conservatives doing childcare at all – they’re skating onto the thin ice of (gasp) SOCIALISM. Perhaps a little bit of socialism is OK as long as it buys you votes and doesn’t cost too much. Any other principles of laissez-faire capitalism on the block?
CS, I wish I had seen your comment before posting my “irrelevant questions” etc.
As one of the “leftist trolls” who showed you up to be a blithering idiot on your own blog, I would urge you to exercise a little moderation. After all, the negative proof of what you claim here is on your blog, unless you deleted it, of course.
I have searched many papers, and listened to the news, read fashion columns, but I can find no mention of the RED VEST a liberal was wearing during a TV interview yesterday. Can’t spell his name, but he was an NDP Premier of BC before becoming a lib. Message to PMSH, wear red.It is not noticed by the media.
agitfact: I purposely chose child care because Canada’s epidemic of neglected kids is actually a much bigger problem than most people think. And the left and the MSM haven’t a clue. Kids aren’t just neglected by parents with poor parenting skills, they’re neglected, most often unknowingly, by the fact that many of them spend time with/see their parents for only a few scant hours on any given day.
My family’s one income that we lived on while I stayed home with our two kids (now at university) was not a big one (well under $40000 and for the first ten years, under $30000). Most people would think that a family of four couldn’t possibly have lived on it. But we did by being frugal, we lived within our means, we actually tithed to our church, and we took pleasure in small things. We vacationed where a generous family member or friend would lend us a cottage, our kids wore (very nice) hand-me-downs from cousins and friends’ kids, and to this day, none of our furniture matches but, as a young friend of mine remarked a few years ago, “it all goes together.”
For our family, and for many families who make it a priority to care for their own children and who aren’t living on a big income, $1200/year would have been/will be a total godsend. We would have had $2400 more a year with which to help buy snowsuits, boots, books, milk, etc., all things that cost the same whether you’re from a double income, high-single income or low-single income family.
The people who don’t seem to “get” what the CPC is doing, have bought the socialist idea–which BTW hasn’t worked in any socialist system including Russia and on kibbutzes in Israel, etc.–that women need to work outside the home in order to fulfill themselves and that it doesn’t really matter who takes care of their kids. Well, you know what? It does matter. Kids know the difference and if you give THEM the choice, nine times out of ten they’d rather stay home with mom or dad than go to daycare, where the care ratio is about six to one, if they’re lucky. A psychiatrist once said that every kid needs to be cared for by someone who is just crazy about them. And who might that be? Mom or Dad, not the daycare worker no matter how kind or sweet or efficient s/he is.
This idea that the only way for women to be fulfilled is work outside the home actually benefits just two parties: the government who is then able to collect income tax from the salaries–big bucks these days–and big corporations who benefit by a huge hiring pool. It’s pure propaganda on the part of organizations, whether government or private, who want to make a lot of money using female labour. Women have had to be convinced that it is in their better interests to work outside the home–but the results for our kids have been quite disastrous.
Just look at the statistics. Our kids are more depressed, more likely to commit suicide, more likely to become sexually active at an earlier age, more likely to become pregnant, more likely to have an abortion, more likely to contract one of 50 STDs, more likely to become violent, etc., etc. than they were before the mass exodus of both parents into the workplace. Oh yeah, and more likely to do badly at school. Just ask any teacher if our kids are more functional in the classroom than they used to be. Every classroom and school has behaviour problems galore, which, frankly, many teachers and administrators are at a loss to know how to manage them.
So, please tell me, again, that I chose a poor proof of the MSM’s bias. They talk ad nauseum about kids’ problems, but never posit as a possibility that the reason our kids are having all these problems is that no one’s home, nor do they ever posit as a solution either mom or dad being encouraged to be home with their children rather than putting them in daycare or having a nanny care for them. H____, most of them have their kids in daycares or with a nanny at home: Why would they ever suggest that perhaps being out of the house for 8-10 hours a day could possibly be damaging for their child(ren)?
‘Talk about blinkers and blind spots.
I heard a liberal MP on tv the other day saying we need universal child care,so that if a family wants to have a few luxuries, the state should care for their children. I WILL NOT STAND FOR MY TAX DOLLARS GOING TO SOMEONE ELSE WHO WANTS A FEW LUXURIES IN LIFE,I CAN’T AFFORD A FEW LUXURIES AND WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE “UNIVERSAL” DAY CARE,IF I WANTED TO! I can’t believe the things that come out of Liberal and NDP mouths sometimes. It just proves they have no idea what regular folk are about!
Mary T:
That was Ujal Dosangh, our now erstwhile defense critic. I thought the vest was fine, lmao, just as i thought Prime Minister Harpers was too.
Nobody in B.C. complained when Dosangh morphed into a Liberal, it got him out of out hair out here. ( for the most part anyway)

School taxes at work
… What began as an initial $100,000 spending approval for Navigator to survey parents two years ago, has blossomed to more than $1 million, with costs for billboard ads and telephone solicitations for a student recruitment campaign last year, and later for lobbyists charging between $250 and $400 per hour on a separate government relations contract….
…Neither Navigator’s lawyer, Brian Shiller, nor its lead partner on the most recent contracts, well-known Liberal strategist Warren Kinsella, would speak to me about the issue….
…Kinsella recently announced on his blog he was leaving Navigator. It appears both boards plan to continue working with him, but they may now have to get trustees to approve new contracts, under a new name. Wonder how much of that discussion they’ll do behind closed doors?

Brand new poster here…
New Kid snippet – …money going directly to parents TO GIVE THEM CHOICE in childcare rather than being put into a publicly funded universal daycare program which doesn’t give stay-at-home parents any choice and, by the way, would bankrupt the country…
Somewhere in there is a suggestion that this represents a huge decrease in spending. If that is so, it should be sold as such, and not as “putting the money back into the hands of parents”. I’m still looking into how much childcare help I can get on any given weekday with $5. This kind of nonsense is certainly not the exclusive domain of our new government – I’ve come to expect it from government of every stripe at every level. But can’t we at least discuss matters on a blog like this without trying to snow each other?
To minimize inevitable speculation, between my wife and I, we’re home 4 days a week out of 5 to be with our homeschooled children.

Heh, I love reading the Hansard…
Ms. Olivia Chow (TrinitySpadina, NDP): Mr. Speaker, the government promised $1,200 in a new family allowance. For a couple earning $35,000 that actually equals a dollar a day.
…
Hon. Diane Finley (Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, CPC): Mr. Speaker, for starters, I would like to assure the hon. member that we have not reached the 75% tax rate in this country.

So much for solidarity for ever.
