  1. Reports say the dogs hold military ranks including sergeant major, first, second, third and fourth lieutenant.
“We were told to be careful while addressing the animals and not call them dogs,” the Asian Age newspaper quoted a staff member of the Sheraton hotel as saying.
“We have been instructed to address them as per their ranks.”
riiight… under which circumstances would the hotel staff need to address the dogs?

  2. This is one strange DOG STORY, address the dogs by their rank?
Anyone knows that there is no such creature as a 3rd or 4th lieutenant and being called 2nd Lt. is a big step down from being called a dog. Now 1st Lt. is just about on par with a mediocre dog and a real decent dog could be called a sergeant major.
Reminds me a story when I was in the US Army in the 60’s and a young Captain who was the company commander got a nifty well bred German Shepherd pup and named it sergeant. The Captan. would put a leash on his dog and take it for runs with the troops. I kind of annoyed the top sergeant who went out and picked up a flea bitten, stove up, goofy looking, old dog and put a piece of rope around its neck and named it Captain. He would then yell in his parade ground voice, SIT CAPTAIN, ROLL OVER CAPTAIN, etc. (Well, it was funny at the time.)

  3. I agree,a complete non-story.The complicated logistics of supplying security for the leader of the free world in India and placing these units where required would trump any concern over costs or even optics.
However,it does seem that the BBC has more in common with our CBC than just B’s and C’s.

  4. A few years back I was reading a list of “Don’ts” constructed by some imam in the process of warning Muslims against the dangers of various evils.
One thing he warned them about was “the moral depravity of dog ownership.”
I scratched my head for some time about this, trying to figure out how on earth dog ownership amounted to moral depravity.
I wandered around for quite some time telling people I bumped into about this unusual part of Islamic moral philosophy, and it was the one thing that I mentioned to people that really did cause their eyes to register full tilt for 20 or 30 seconds. I mean, they weren’t faking it. It was like a Zen koan or something. The content simply did not register.
That’s when the full weight of how bizarre these people really are struck me.

  5. No doubt you and the pooch got better treatment than most hotels in Canader. Saw a travelogue a while ago about a hotel in Manhatten that treated dogs better than their owners. The suites had an outdoor area with grass and stuff. Room service for the four legged guest along with massages. A real dog’s life for sure.
some days I like the no-news news stories as it means I don’t have another thing to holler about.

When all is said and done, the philosophy on which Canadas ailing medicare system is based is this. That Canadians are perfectly content to eat sawdust, as long as they can be assured that no one is ever going to be allowed to buy a steak. +

  7. The MSM is compromising security by revealing the location of Secret Service agents! Normal people fully understand what the dogs were doing there. This non-story reveals the media for what they’re doing – slapping up any story that might make Prez Bush look bad and then hope that it has legs. Doubtful that rational folks are gonna bother getting twisted about this.

  8. Ah, Kate. You know I was not even going to say anything until the last post, which made me laugh. As a kid I took a business trip from Vancouver to Philadelphia. This was the early 80’s and I was a pretty innocent 20ish puppy. I can clearly recall the bellhop hanging around and hanging around until duh I clicked in, and said thanks and gave him $10. Probably 2-3x too much at the time. Thanks for making me remember this.

  9. Hehehe…was that with, or without 4×4? Hope valet didn’t get the sticks confused.
