As the Church Lady says… “Isn’t that special?”
MacLeans Magazine (Jan 30-Feb 6 edition) editorial page titled “The Media Message” discusses how MacLeans, in partnership with McGill University’s Observatory on Media & Public Policy, put accusations of media bias to the test (or so they claim) by monitoring coverage in seven of Canada’s biggest and most influential papers.
They claim the results showed Canadian MSM have little or no bias, and generally had very balanced coverage with the sole exception of the Calgary Herald who were overcome with their excitement about Steven Harper.
They don’t deny that there were biased articles but claim those articles were mostly editorials or opinion pieces. There are none so blind…
Cheedle doesn’t have a leg to stand on. You’d have to question his general sense of wherewithal for him to even make such a defense.
1. It is all good and fine to fall back on the “just kidding” line. And I just fell off the turnip truck. Bruce/Ron just doing research to find out what people are thinking of him? Why did it get changed so quickly?
2. As far as MSM go, I get read the Vancouver Sun cover to cover, every day. Even though they relented at the eleventh hour, and endorsed the Torys, they sure take the opportunity to blast them every chance they get. Barbara Yaffe is the only dissenting voice, which makes me wonder how the heck her column even gets into print.
Well the first problem here is that they teamed up with McGill University. McGill is the refuge of the repeated under achiever who has most assuredly been rejected from the rest of this countries institutes of higher learning. The notion that an unbiased study originating from this haven of socialist miscreants, holding degree’s about as useful as toilet paper, is laughable.
I think bob at eitherorr hits the nail on the head, when he says, ‘humour’s great, when its in the commentary section, or on the op ed page. NOT in straight news’ This kind of thing is pervasive, subtle, easily denied and apparantly hard to discover by McGill researchers. I personally don’t mind leftist elitist pronouncements; I’ve heard them my whole life, just not in the news, please. The Wall Street Journal, is a good example of the reverse. Conservative and dogmatic neo-conservative op-ed pages (they still haven’t found a problem that wasn’t Clinton’s fault) but their straight news is opinion free, as it should be. If you’re a conservative supporter you can read the editorials and get your dose of outrage. If you’re a leftist you can skip over that to the business and int’l news. That’s all we ask, just label the stuff as opinion, you don’t even have to rewrite it, just file it correctly!
Lamest. Excuse. Ever.
Hey Commentators:
The London FREE Press, a supposedly LOCAL London paper is controlled OUT OF QUEBEC by Quebecor: Here are their officers and directors from this link: http://www.stockhouse.ca/comp_info.asp?view=&Displaycurrency=&symbol=QBR.MV.A&table=list
Officers:
Pierre-Karl Pladeau, President & CEO; Jacques Mallette, Executive Vice President & CFO; Luc Lavoie, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs; Louis Saint-Arnaud, Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs & Secretary; Marc D’Souza, Vice President & Treasurer; Michel thier, Vice President, Taxation; Roger Martel, Vice President, Internal Audit; Dennis Sabourin, Vice President & Corporate Controller;
Board Members:
Jean Neveu, rik Pladeau, Francoise Bertrand, Alain Bouchard, Robert Dutton, Jean LaCouture, Pierre Laurin, Brian Mulroney, Pierre Parent, Pierre Karl Pladeau,
As you can see, they are all basically French and from Quebec, all yanking the strings of the London Free Press and these other supposedly local newspapers in ENGLISH Canada:
The Ottawa Sun:
founded in 1988, number 2 in its market
The Toronto Sun:
founded in 1971, number 2 in its market
The London Free Press:
founded in 1849, number 1 in its market
The Winnipeg Sun:
founded in 1980, number 2 in its market
The Edmonton Sun:
founded in 1978, number 2 in its market
The Calgary Sun:
founded in 1980, number 2 in its market
This is ridiculous. Of course the media is biased, and it’s bias is reflecting the interests of two cultural groups who own and control almost ALL of Canada’s media, one of them being French…the other? I’ll let you find out for yourselves.
In fact, http://www.stockhouse.ca/, is an excellent source of information to find out who is really yanking our strings in Canada.
“Too clever by half” seems to be a smokescreen.
I think the real reason comes from his explanation that things get rewritten all the time. It is easy to say, “you aren’t smart enough to understand me” – especially if you are member of THE liberal elite, the MSM – than is to admit that you made a slip and voiced your true opinion about the politics – and political parites – of the day. And in the echo-chamber that is the liberal MSM, the editors didn’t see anything wrong either.

I accept Bruce Cheadle’s statement that he never worked for the London Free press. My error on that issue. However any Liberal bias I have ever attributed to the FP I stand by. Recalling that in the 2004 election, the FP supported the Libs for reelection despite that the adscam corruption was already an issue.
Just one instance for example.
