A political story from Quebec that comes as a breath of fresh air;

Quebec City on Sunday elected a 68-year-old retired woman as mayor who didn’t even run a campaign. Andree Boucher had no lawn signs, no volunteers, raised no money and didn’t even have a formal platform! But she won — quite handily — beating out several high- profile challengers, including an ex-Jean Charest cabinet minister.

  1. This is my approach to winning over Liberals. I post this to left leaning blogs.
Do you think it may attract possible converts?
No?.. Ok , let’s see how you would do it.

Posted: Thu Nov 10, 2005 5:18 am Post subject: Save the Good Liberals Vote CPC this time
It’s embarrassing to admit I used to vote Liberal. However , now to allow the good honest Liberals to repair the terrible damage to the party and allow the party to regain the respect of Canadian voters, they must be allowed to sit the next one out.
If you vote the Liberal party back in as a crippled minority, and that is the case today. they are unable to get much done and if they fail any further the public will write them off as dead meat.
There are some very bad eggs in the Liberal party and it will take some time out of office to get that repaired. After that is taken care of, then the party will come back fresher and stronger than ever.
In the mean-time, it is clear that many who post comments in favour of the Liberals here are going to be shocked to learn about some real documented truths of goings on in the Liberal Government of Canada today.
Read back into the archives of these Blogsites and you will be amazed at the very real truth about all that is going on in your government, behind the scenes.

  2. Big kudos to Judy McLeod and David Hawkins, for their piece under the “strange bedfellows” link, and to Mr. Wajsman for his piece earlier.
Rough night for Paul Martin at SDA. If I am reading the CFP article correctly, a special investigator from the loan syndicate behind the takeover of CSL has been running surveillance on Mr. Gomery since June, and that this detail is in the report.
Is this so? McLeod and Hawkins describe this as a detail overlooked by the media, and these days there’s no less banal way to put it, but increasingly there’s no difference between a detail and the whole proverbial ball of wax. It’s as if some priestly class has decided what the truth shall be.
The really important unasked questions are about the media, at this point. The only thing I know for sure is that by coming to Kate’s site tonight and reading the links provided, I get about ten years worth of MSM-style truth.

  4. Our Girl Rona, on message and on the job:

The side-deals the Prime Minister has signed with several provinces would have been unnecessary had he reformed the equalization formula in a wholesale manner and in a way which was fair to all provinces.
Instead the Prime Minister is simply pitting province against province and endangering the equalization program. said Ambrose.

“Stephen Harper has committed to sitting down with the provinces to address the urgent need to reform the equalization program to ensure that it remains a national program which treats all provinces equally, said Ambrose.”

  5. Oh, here’s a good one: Carol Skelton reports the Liberals are going to great lengths to not implement Bill C-12 – The Quarantine Act – almost six months after it received royal assent.
I’m not sure the urban voters in Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto would appreciate this pro-flu pandemic policy of the Liberal Party of Canada if they knew about it.
I hope the voters in Ottawa and Gatineau know that if a disaster hist either side of the Ottawa River the doctors from the other province will NOT help due to insurance issues. It happened in the USA with Katrina and it will happen here unless we get a CPC government to pass emergency legislation allowing doctors to cross provincial borders in emergencies.

In the wake of SARS, a new Quarantine Act designed to prevent the introduction and spread of communicable diseases was identified as a top priority,
said Skelton. However, if this governments treatment of this legislation is any indication, disease control and prevention is anything but a priority to the Liberals.

If a pandemic strikes tomorrow, we will not have this legislation and its tools available to us,
cautioned Skelton. In todays Health Committee meeting, Public Health Minister Carolyn Bennett refused to explain the delay in implementing the Act and attempted to pass the responsibility for an explanation onto the Chief Public Health Officer. The Liberal Cabinet talks about priorities and accountability but when it really counts, we dont see any leadership.

  6. Nearly half of the Canadians surveyed in a new Statistics Canada report lacked the basic skills required to decipher information fundamental to their day-to-day life.

Roughly 42 per cent of those surveyed between the age of 16 an 65 scored below a level three in prose literacy,
which it called the desired level “for coping with the increasing demands of a knowledge society.”

  7. Arming the corporation
    Sandra Rubin, Senior Business Writer
    Financial Post
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Coaching senior executives before meetings and conference calls, running rigorous post-mortems and being vigilant about monitoring information — even blogs — are some of things general counsel should be doing these days to protect their corporations from liability, lawyers at the Association of Corporate Counsel’s annual meeting were told…
…”It’s not unusual for a rumour that shows up on a blog to end up being in the in-boxes of people at the hedge fund and, also, for people at those hedge funds start acting on that information,” said Mr. Chia. “So I think it is a good idea to keep ahead of the rumour waves, and try to see where they’re coming from.
“What kind of people are on these blogs? Do these people know what they’re talking about, do they sound credible? Do they sound like they’re part of the investment community? I think it’s an evolving space but in a couple of years you’re going to see companies putting a lot more energy into investigating blogs and their activities. Certain companies are already doing that.”…

  8. Darfur update.
In May Paul Martin, in his effort to buy David Kilgour’s vote, promised that Canada would send around 100 troops to Darfur as advisers to the African Union (AU) peacekeeping mission in Darfur. Sudan refused to let them in.
Then in June the government said it would try to send around 100 clapped-out surplus Grizzly armoured personnel carriers, which have been in storage for six years, to the AU forces in Sudan. It just didn’t know how it would get them there. And since Sudan still refused to let Canadian troops in, the government suggested the Canadian Forces might train AU troops on the Grizzlies in third countries. Or maybe contracted civilians could provide the training. Or maybe the government would find APCs from other countries and somehow get those to Sudan.
Finally, on July 28, Defence Minister Bill Graham announced the loan of the 105 armoured vehicles to African Union forces for use in Sudan. In September the vehicles arrived by ship in Senegal and 67 Canadian troops were sent to train African Union soldiers there on operating the vehicles. The training was completed in late September; the vehicles are still in Senegal awaiting air transport to Sudan (which the Canadian Air Force cannot provide).

A Canadian website says it has been forced to remove images of a poppy after the Royal Canadian Legion accused the site’s owner of violating its trademark.

  11. PM puts students in political hot seat
…The prime minister was in York along with Newmarket-Aurora MP Belinda Stronach and dropped by the school for an hour-long question and answer period with 600 students…
…Prior to the prime minister’s visit, students were asked to submit questions and, based on those questions, it was decided who would get the prime minister’s ear.
For some students, the process was a little too contrived.
“It’s totally staged. I was hoping that anyone could ask questions,” Grade 12 student Peter Davey said. “They are censoring our questions.”…

  12. Kate,
You might want to be careful about how much “Martin stuff” you post here. You know, the “stuff” the MSM doesn’t print/broadcast. (Earnscliffe, taxpayer coin to CSL, questionable ties to shady individuals/corporations, etc.) I wouldn’t want to see you get one of those infamous “audits”.
Do you track domain addresses as to exactly “who” (wink wink) is visiting your site? If not, you may want to check into some software that does this for blogs. I’ve seen a few blogs lately who have posted “welcome messages” to certain corporations and government departments when their posts get a little…how shall I say…”close to the source”. Think of it as “call display” to weed out LPC “staffers”.
If you have been “visited” it would be interesting to hear who has been “dropping by”. I’d hate to see your site compromised by LPC “SS” as it gets even more popular.

  14. Canadian Legion? I am ex-RCN and the Canadian Legion has always been a Mystery to me.
They refused to allow an image of the Poppy on a blog-site. See JM 9:32 above.
If it was me. I’d say Sue me. This is not your poppy it’s a different one. You can not copyright all poppy images.
In July or August there were several notes about sending small cards and gifts to our guys in Afghanistan. The Canadian Legion was contacted about this and they flatly refused to consider any part of the idea.
Then there is a Legion branch where a guy sits and drinks beer all day while waiting by the telephone. The number is listed in his newspaper ad for furniture moving. He has a van and moves furniture from business via the Legion telephone. That may be OK, but for reputation. Several times the RCMP… well you know.
The Legion spirit. What is that exactly? I guess there are some really good ones too. TG

‘Last week at York University, a group of students confronted the Canadian Armed Forces (there to recruit students for jobs), driving them off campus. Meanwhile, the University of Guelphs student council, the Central Student Association, is drafting a policy that would ban military recruiters from campus, as well as oppose any research done on campus that would benefit military organizations.

  19. Eskimo, I did a post on the Gomery-Martin-CSL connections a couple of days ago on my own site as I couldn’t find any other blogs saying anything about it. I don’t fear the Liberal regime. I doubt if Kate’s afraid of those bums, either.
Forget the MSM– they’re terrified of the Liberals, so they’re not going to investigate exactly how the regime operates, let alone tell us. It’s up to bloggers.

    CTV.ca News Staff
It was meant to be a solemn occasion to honour fallen soldiers, but a small number of veterans chose Friday’s Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa to launch their protest against Canada’s new Governor General.
As Michaelle Jean laid a memorial wreath on the War Memorial, the words “Turn, turn,” were called out, and about 25 people, led by veterans, turned their backs on the Governor General.
It was meant as a statement against the newly appointed Jean, who the protesters believe has separatist sympathies. >>>>>>>

    WASHINGTON POST ^ | November 11, 2005 | TOM JACKSON – WASHPOST

WASHINGTON – When it comes to multitasking, it’s hard to beat the woman who can rob a bank and never interrupt her cell phone conversation.
In an act of either incredible cool or something much more sinister, a young woman has robbed four Wachovia bank branches in Northern Virginia in recent weeks, all while seemingly immersed in cell phone chats, police say. In the most recent holdup, on Nov. 4 in Ashburn, video footage shows the woman to be almost uninterested as a teller hands her a stack of cash, and she continues talking on her phone as she turns and walks out of the bank
“This is the first time that I can recall where we’ve had a crime committed while the person was using a cell phone,” said Loudoun County sheriff’s spokesman Kraig Troxell, echoing comments by officials from other law enforcement agencies. “The question would be whether anyone is on the other end of the line or not.” >>>>
