About the war in Iraq. Nothing new to anyone who follows the blogosphere, but considering the number of these that escape the lips of supposedly informed pundits and reporters, it’s worth reviewing.

Missed one of the myths, and it’s perhaps the biggest myth:
“We’re losing”
See chrenkoff’s 25-part Good News From Iraq series for a debunking.
Speaking of war, I am listening to Bill Good on his CKNW talk show and he was speaking to a gentleman who is the father of a Canadian soldier in Afghanistan. His son was in contact with his father and related the difficulties being encountered in their move from Kabul to Kandahar. Among the problems; no drinking water and they have to go begging to the Americans for water, no building materials and again they have to go begging from the Americans, a lack of many of the basics required of a military organization to defend themselves when and where they are under attack, etc etc. Since this is the type of publicity that would reflect badly on our couldn’t-care-less Liberal government I don’t suppose the Canadian media will pick up on the story. Oh, no! They’ll wait until they get a really good story to report – like, say, the accidental death of Canadians from American friendly fire and then the crap will hit the fan.
Posting comments, I try to be positive or at least forward looking, but I seem to be at a loss as to understand what it would take to Calm Al Qaeda down.
They are just too happy killing themselves at our expense.
Al-Qaeda creates a sort of catch-22 situation.
They only negotiate via high explosives.
The west could retaliate
with double the explosives, killing twice the innocent women and children, but that has been going on for thirty-eight years across the Israeli border with no resolve in sight. Not the North American way, really.
I thought the US could pay under-cover operatives to take out the worst of the OBL types. I’m not sure why that did not work.
This is a catch-22 because Al-Qeada seems to think taking hostages and then rolling their heads in the street will gain them some sort of victory.
That only increases rage and justification for lashing back with more intensity.
What exactly does AL-Qeada want anyway, other than troops leaving Iraq.? That would end nothing.
This seems to be a catch-22 because those running Al Qeada are in fact quite wealthy and can motivate young men to accept that 27 or so virgins await them when they trip to the next world via plastique explosive.
Seems their main aim is to be a thorn in the side of the free world. Sort of an ongoing world tooth-ache.
This can go on for lifetimes if Fundamentalist leaders fail to adopt a new world vision.
If Al Qaeda leaders simply enjoy the thrill of mass killing, [remember they are oil wealthy and are in need of nothing], then it seems we have a world escalation of what has been on-going in Israel for years.
Anyone with any idea of what would satisfy Al Qaeda enough to relax on the blood-letting habit is welcome to outline it.
Moving out of Iraq would only serve to expose Kurds to certain death and Shiites to who knows what. Sunnis and the Bath just want to move back into their palaces, no doubt. 73s TG
I’m very pleased to have stumbled across your site and after having followed the link and read the myths and rebuttals to them, you’ve been blogrolled as worth watching.
Thanks for enlightening me.
If the “RIGHT WING NEWS” says it’s true that’s good enough for me. They’re long standing reputation for the highest caliber of unbiased journalism precedes them. After all, the “RIGHT WING NEWS” would never skew itself towards- oh, say- THE RIGHT WING !
It makes me mad to think that all this time I thought the conflict was about natural resources and defending one’s country (not that those are bad things)
Ken, if you have a specific challenge about the content of the article at Right Wing News, provide it. Otherwise, I’d say you’re ignoring the content.
They do actually cite specific documents.
To TonyGuitar:
Your questions indicate that you’re still thinking of the conflict as a criminal investigation/security operation. When you accept that this is a war instigated by militant Islam against modernism, you’ll be able to provide the answers for yourself.
Bingo Liam. Declaring one’s political stance up front should _enhance_ the credibility of a writer, not diminish it. Furthermore, as you have pointed out, there is ample unchallenged documentation provided – as there always has been.
Why certain members of the media continue to pretend it doesn’t is anyone’s guess, but to my mind, it disqualifies them from further consideration as reliable journalists/columnists.
BTW – when pundits talk about the fact that the extremists in Islam who are drawn to terrorism are a “very tiny minority” of no more than 1% – remember that this figure this represents as many as a million Islamists and supporters worldwide.
That should answer your question about why “special ops teams” have been unable to put this “tiny minority” to bed.
The other big myth is that “we’re losing” what ever civil struggle the war has produced in Iraq. When I go to sources that are actually on the ground in Iraq and see un spun news and interviews with Iraqis…..the new democratic government and the freedom it promises seems to be motivation enough to convince the vast majority of Iraqis to support and defend the democratic regime from the imported fascist terrorists…..every unspun story I read has the terrorists killing more Iraqis than Americans in their war against the Iraqi people…..but it’s not spun this way by the yellow press….it’s made out to be a vietnam era losing half effort.
All I know is that the foaming left that either supports or discounts Islamic terror have no idea what is happening…if they do then they must know that their weakening the west’s resolve to decisively terminate global terrorism as a political tool, opens us all to the very violence they want to avoid.
I pry it doesn’t happen but perhaps it will take a Canadian terrorist tradgedy to wake them up….well maybe.

I have been receiving phone calls today from credible Iranians around the world who are saying that the mullahs and their hired thugs are beating and arresting activist dissidents who are outside Evin Prison protesting for the release of Akbar Ganji, who has been on a hunger strike for the last month. Ganji has gained international attention, not only because of his hunger strike, but also for his series of reports investigating the murders of several prominent dissidents and intellectuals. The mullahs imprisoned Ganji to silence him. His writing was very effective in showing the black hand of the mullahs..

Iran, formerly Persia, is the epi-centre of the war against the West.
Akbar Ganji is a hero; what will be his fate? The Internet should be onto this. Any bloggers on this?

Chokh Saghol* to the missy flowers of the European Union! Finally! After 27 years of being Mullas’ bed fellows, the union is asking for Akbar Ganji’s freedom. Only now… Ganji is throwing up blood and may soon his cold body be taken to the Tehran cemetery… Do you hear me? STOP your Frank Stein-making-factories in the Middle East! Stop washing your hands off the blood! The monsters you support and make business deals with… are training terrorists in Iran and kill your children in New York, Madrid, and London and crucifix our children in their prisons.
Chokh Saghol means thank you in Turkish/Azeri (The EU refuses Turkey to join the EU for Human Rights abuse cases but makes business deals with countries like Iran!)

What can I do? What can I do but write? Blog? Sign petition after petition and write to the senators? What can I do to get the deaf politicians realize Akbar Ganji may be a day from his grave. My mind is blank my heart worries my hands shake and my eyes are tearful Why Shirin Ebadi is not taking Ganjis case to an international court is beyond my understanding! She has the Nobel Piece prize immunity, wealth and fame why doesnt she indict this regime for its crimes?
