Vote Roundup

Well, we knew it would be close.
This page is the place to watch for new posts as they appear from various members of the “Blogging Tories”.
Blue Maple Leaf liveblogged.
Conservative Life is opening itself up to charges of sexism. I for one, am glad to know that Cadman got into politics to fight for tougher crime legislation. Considering his choice of bedfellow, I wonder what’s keeping him now?
Not directly related, but an informational read, nonetheless, from Terry O’Neill at the Shotgun. I urge you check it out.
Someone requested we all join in National Anthem.
A special request has been made to open the comments section to “cusswords”. Considering the circumstances, the request has been granted on this comments thread only – so do not read it if you want to avoid potential offense.

  1. Kate,
Can you relax your cuss word policy for just one day? I have a feeling a lot of your readers would appreciate it.

  2. Parliament is now a rogue body.Nothing Paul Martin can do or say now will save his reputation as the most dangerous and corrupt PM in our history.

  3. Another thing…..The Conservatives and the Bloc should have walked last week, and demanded the GG dissolve the House. They mooks got rolled by gangsters who laughed at procedure and those who act with honour.

  4. I don’t understand what everyone’s upset about. There’s going to be an election called thirty days after the Gomery Report is issued…right? Right?
    Anyone?
    Buehler?
    Buehler?

  5. Predicted the outcome to my mates at work Monday night. Blech… not proud of that.
Well, look at it this way, I see at least one silver lining to the cloud. The longer the Liberal government survives, the deeper the hole the federation is buried in. Oh wait, that’s a silver lining?
p.s. Stehphen Harper was right on in his appeal to Quebecers during his post budget vote speech. In Quebec the Liberals haven’t got a leg to stand on any longer. At long last, they see them for what they are. On the other hand, the conservatives can build on something there with what may remain of federalists in Quebec. (What is that now, hmmmm, less than 25% of the population? Way to go Liberal burkes).

  6. Kate, thanks for lifting the cussword ban. I may have been treading on the razor’s edge of civility with words like burke, git, and flaming git.

  7. Schwarze Tulpe: Harper started his election campaign in his post budget speech and it appears he is going after the Quebec Liberal vote and to hell with Ontarians. Brilliant how he said the Conservatives were the only federal party to stand with the Bloc and Quebecers against Liberal corruption. The Conservatives lost but one skirmish on the road to winning the war. And when it happens, the victory will be well deserved.

  8. I see on the Conservative Website that they are scheduling a softball tournament in August. Considering the competition they’re up against, wouldn’t it be better to learn how to play hardball?

  9. Dithers is a snake, and now that he’s seized power, the jaws of the viper will not let go.
The battle has only begun, but now it’s not on a national level, it becomes a provincial battle as we are going to be hit hard with everything he can push through. Thus there is no reason to recognize Canada as a nation especially with a rogue government.

  10. @%#&***?^%#* there now I have said it. I am now sending a large donation to the Alberta Separation Party. I have had a membership for a few months already. I would encourage all bloggers of a right mind to do the same also. Our son has also signed on and think I can convince more members of our family to get on the bandwagon.

  11. Cadman getting hammered on radio phone-in. He’s finished in politics. But there is the Senate–this way please…hang-on, you forgot your paper bag. Does anybody have the proper definition for treason?

  12. Kate, Thanks for lifting the ban but, guess what? I’m just too numb to cuss!

  13. jwbrown1969,
They won’t let us in without a huge capital investment, we don’t qualify for lottery, and the feds steal our cash if we try to withdraw our RRSP(similar to 401K), so were screwed.
Best to stay here and join the fight to split our prov. out then deal with other issues after.

  14. jw, here red is a bad color. 😉 Blue is the conservative color in Canada.
But I know what you mean.

  15. I’m way past swearing. Thanks anyway.
It is still possible for the Liberal government to fall. But I doubt that will happen till this fall/winter. We will see.
But for me it’s too late.
I now support the separation of Quebec. I now support the separation of Western Canada. What a slap in the face of all honest, tax-paying Canadians everywhere. Corruption rules in Canada now.
If you want to set up a foundation to raise terror money, Canada is the place to do it. Foundations are above the law in Canada and nobody, I mean *nobody*, can question what they do with their money. Not even the Auditor General. They do not answer to anyone. And the Liberal Party gives them tons of money each year, none of it ever accounted for, except for reports to the ministers responsible. And they’re Liberals. Ask the Auditor General what she thinks of that.
If you want to be paid for doing nothing, make a deal with the Liberal Party of Canada and offer to accept money and slip 30% back to them under the table, in a brown envelope of course, so it can’t be traced. I’m sure the same can be said for foundations, except that it’s easier to do with Foundations because, like I say, they are not accountable to the people of Canada.
The Liberals have disarmed Canadians, emaciated our armed forces, set up programs like Kyoto that will make the rich even richer, set up foundations (which work better than sponsorships anyway), and partnered with the mob to run this country.
All eyes are now back on Gomery. But, as I said, it’s too late for me.

  16. #$@!**&&^^^__++&*
I just had to have a go — but can any of our more politically astute readers tell me what happens now to stuff like the alleged Inky Mark bribe, the alleged Grewal bribe etc. Does all that stuff go away or will it be resolved?

  17. Old Squid , No, it will be used against the CPC (if) whenever an election will occur. For now the lib’s will just use it for additional smearing.
If it was a provable criminal act, there would have been real fireworks.

  18. [reposted from my blog]
In effect, Canadians just told their elected officials that they can embezzle public money with no repercussion, as long as they kick some of it back to the movers and shackers. How do I feel about this?
Strangely enough, quite calm. Tear off the labels, and this is the same situation that has occured countless times before in the history of Mankind. The powerfuls do their best to remain powerful, and if that requires unsporting maneuvers, so be it.
I won’t lie down and just take it, but I’ve come to accept that the moral evolution of our species is a long and continued process. Expecting overnight success over nepotism and corruption is not rational. We have already made enormous strides in the past few hundreds of years, what’s a few years more?
The thing is to not give up hope, and, of course, never stop striving. Actions, not just words. Remember: wishes in one hand, crap in the other, see what piles up first…
So let’s roll up our sleeves. Let’s keep giving them rope to hang themselves with. Let’s keep digging for their dark secrets, so we can expose them for all to see. Let’s keep building our dreams, so that we have enough money and clout to tell them “no!” when they come to enslave us.
I’m already hard at work. Are you?

  19. Hey, john crittenden, When I expressed almost exactly those same sentiments to my Member of Parliament today I gat accused of being Thin Skinned.
    And he a Conservative.
    Don Cherry for PM.

  20. I guess Harper must be breathing a sigh of relief! That was brinksmanship. Once the momentum picked up it was clear that the Conservatives misread this situation and would be punished if an election was called.

  21. Can you imagine Don Cherry in the House? God help the opposition. And I wouldn’t want to be standing too close to him in a scrum outside if I had voted against him.

  22. John, Stinson ended up being paired with Peter Adams. He was originally paired with John Efford, who decided to attend at the last minute because he wanted to vote on the Atlantic Accord.

  23. V-Man,
I agree, continue to expose, but ON won’t accept. The separatist card has to become very load, and very vocal. It’s the only way anyone will listen. If it is totally rejected by central Canada, then so be it. I refuse to accept being dominated by a dictatorial government.
Maybe it’s fine were you are, but we know were on the hit list out here, and we ain’t going to take it lying down. Not like the last time.

  24. Hypothetical question:
If, and I mean if, Belinda went to the Liberals because of a nasty tongue lashing from Harper (thin skinned, I’ll admit), then the vote loss would be due to Harper, n’est pas?
If that is the case, do you think he will/should be held accountable for this missed opportunity?

  25. Hey John Crittenden,
Let’s make Don the PM, Tie Domi the Min.pf Nat.Defense and Haeley Wickenheiser can replace Belinda, by force,if necessary (Haley’s job to apply the body check)

  26. Thank you for lifting the ban Kate, there’s something I want to get off my chest.
    Martin! Stronach! Cadman! Tim Murphy!
    Sorry for the digusting language.

  27. As often as I can I will repeat this mantra. Conservatives have to look at the “row they hoe” as a very long battle for the hearts and minds of Canadians. Short term success is what the likes of Chuck and Belinda have gone for. Stephen and company have to stand up for firmly held political, economic and social values and policies. They must not relent. They must keep thess conservative values front and center. The Liberal mindset dominates this country because they have successfully convinced a generation that they are right. We need conservative thinkers in education, media and politics.

  28. So does one take a vote of 153 to 152 as proof that (rounding out) 50% of Parliament is corrupt?

  29. The very first province that separates from confederation: I wanna be your first ‘refugee’
P.S. I am even prepared to learn to speak da French, and become a Catholic.

  30. Just did a bit of research. I love Google even though it’s run by a bunch of Liberals. This budget is not a done deal yet. There is a third reading coming up, not sure when but in the next couple months I think.
The important thing I just discovered is that there is an upcoming by-election in Labrador on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, to replace Lawrence O’Brien, a Liberal, who passed away recently. That’s next week folks.
The Conservative running is the Labrador City Mayor. The Liberal candidate is the president of the Labrador Metis Assn. I also did some research and found out that mayors usually do well in by-elections. This could be far from over. If the Conservatives can pick this seat up they will have sufficient votes to defeat the Liberals any time they want.

  31. I just have to comment on Peter MacKay.
Instead of blubbering and showing his sensitivity on National TV, Peter should have shown up on Parliament Hill todaywith a hooker on each arm!

  32. Conservatives have to look at the “row they hoe” as a very long battle for the hearts and minds of Canadians.
Jack, I agree. We just selected a wonderful candidate, Tom DeBlois, to run for the CPC in Charlottetown — he will definitely give “Prince-in-Waiting” Shawn Murphy a run for his (I mean, our) money. And I’m betting he’ll beat him. But, not being a betting gal, I’m gonna roll up my sleeves, pitch in, and do all I can to help make it happen. Starting now.

  33. Doug,
Are you trying to give an old vet a heart attack? Laughing, that is.

  34. LOL doug!
As for Mackay, “baring all” on national tv was brilliant, if painful. I haven’t spoken to a single woman that didn’t want to, at the very least, vote for him.
    Thanks, Belinda! (dumba$$)

  35. john c: apparently that seat (by-election) ALWAYS goes Liberal. Lots of gov’t $$$ spread around.
That being said, wouldn’t it be lovely if it flipped? If there’s anything anyone can do to help, we should, doncha think?

  36. am I the last one to notice that conservative.ca has significantly changed their look?

  37. If I may be allowed a pissy commet after an infuriating evening at the pub: Cadman clearly pissed all over his son’s grave tonight, and I would gladly see him murdered in turn. Fuck that spineless piece of shit machine.

  38. Candace,
The government $$$$ may disappear if the rumour is true that the Liberals are planning on shutting down the CF Base at Goosebay. The Brits have already moved to Alberta(see how smart they are?)and hangarline talk is that other foreign troops will soon follow. That leaves not enough Canadian troops there to keep the barracks from freezing. Maybe, just maybe, if the CPC promised to keep the Base open with more Canadian troops, they could win this by-election.

  39. What’s with all this Cadman bashing. I’m assuming there are many of you who, like me, embraced Reform when it was formed. Remember? “The West Wants In” and “Back to the Grassroots”? Sooooooo Cadman does exactly what his constituents told him to do – – it’s called “grassroots”, folks. I was certainly hoping he would sink the Libs but he didn’t and I’ll be damned if I’m going to knock him for it. My CPC MP has been “Ottawaized”, never talks to his constituents anymore and I don’t think he’s alone. Regardless, I remain firmly committed to CPC and I can assure you we’ll see better days ahead.
