Well, we knew it would be close.
This page is the place to watch for new posts as they appear from various members of the “Blogging Tories”.
Blue Maple Leaf liveblogged.
Conservative Life is opening itself up to charges of sexism. I for one, am glad to know that Cadman got into politics to fight for tougher crime legislation. Considering his choice of bedfellow, I wonder what’s keeping him now?
Not directly related, but an informational read, nonetheless, from Terry O’Neill at the Shotgun. I urge you check it out.
Someone requested we all join in National Anthem.
A special request has been made to open the comments section to “cusswords”. Considering the circumstances, the request has been granted on this comments thread only – so do not read it if you want to avoid potential offense.

Well, I know lots of people who are dying. Some of them I know personally. I don’t respect some of them at all. Just because someone is dying is no reason to let them off the hook. I think Cadman had a reason to do what he did and I don’t think most of us would be too happy if we knew what it was. And if he lets what his constituents think on every issue sway him from what he may know is right at the time, then he’s not a man, he’s a damn machine, waiting to be turned on and pointed.
If a politician has to take a referendum every time he has to make a decision that’s not the kind of rep I want in Ottawa. I vote for platforms, not people. I expect them to make decisions based on the reasons I voted for them. I don’t want to have to answer a damn phone ever few days just to let him know what I want him to do. What a copout.
I think the Cadman bashing is coming because of the tape recording that Grewal (sp) presented today. The wording was similar in nature to what was said by PM 2bit wannabe.
I believe Cadman when he says this is what his constituents want. That is what his political principles were founded on. There is alot of NDP support in BC (although I don’t get it since last time they were in power they turned BC into a slum hole – no offense intended, but I was shocked when I went to the OK/Shushwaps and saw the poverty.. it was tragic really). It’s gotten better under the Lib (really PC) gov’t. Has become much more vibrant… especially Vernon.
It wasn’t chuck who fucked the party is was belinda
BCer: Cadman is a coward and a sorry excuse for a politician. How convenient to poll your grassroots and when they make the wrong choice as today, you let them take the fall.
Cadman was on one of our local radio talk shows. He said about three hundred of his constituents wrote him and the majority of them did not want an election. Cadman did not even make a historic decision based on a statistically representative sample. And, he only gave this momentous decision any thought 1/2 hour before the vote!!
Barry Goldwater said this in his 1964 Presidential campaign ” If I should be attacked for neglecting my constituents “interests” I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty and in that cause I am doing the best I can…”
Mr. Cadman had his chance to give Canada liberty from corruption. Great people stand up to the challenge and lead the charge.. like Barry Goldwater, Ronald Regan, Margaret Thatcher etc.
Mr. Cadman is a coward.
Dudly Morris: What are you talking about? We (CPC) let Cadman get screwed at his nomination and he ran and won as an INDEPENDENT and as he said on TV tonight, when it came to make up his mind he returned to his Reform roots. Are you saying an MP has no responsibility to listen and do the will of his constituents? And who said anything about anyone dying? I think you better read what you wrote again. You sound like a sleazy Liberal.
The point is…..without your tax donations, it would have NEVER been a “close” vote……particularly if you had anything to say abnout yout money ending up as bribe baite for political street walkers.
Hey Old Mother: No one admires Goldwater, Thatcher and Reagan more than I do but don’t use them to rag on Chuck Cadman. Your second paragraph is so full of holes and untruths that I think you might try calling on George Washington as a hero as well. He never told a lie.

Come to Alberta:
You are welcome to learn French here, but you don’t have to.
You are welcome to become a Catholic, but you don’t have to.
JM
I have a different take on all this. Out east they look at the CPC as the Alberta proxy party. There totally scared of it, it’s to right wing etc. etc.
There totally scared because AB has been successful, as SK, and BC has in the past few years, and they will NEVER allow the CPC in, and always use that angle to scare the populous. Until you can overcome that stereotype, your fighting a losing battle, and all the ranting here isn’t going to help win elections.
BCer has it right with Cadman. Our collective will is that we don’t want to have teh Liberals in power. If our MP’s went against our will, would we not be screaming bloody murder? Of course. I beleive that Cadman found out from his constituents that they did not want an election. As hard as that is to believe, I do believe him. If nothing else, the people calling his offices (probably as Liberal red as red can be) were saying don’t defeat the budget.
As he is not a sitting Conservative I think that he did the will of his people.
Cadman’s comments are bizarre. He says his constituents didn’t want an election? Well, the liberals lost the confidence of the house. An election is what is required in our system. That’s tough stuff for those brave 300, who couldn’t stand to see lawn signs and TV ads, but could tolerate corruption.
Cadman has zero integrity.
The more battle worn the sword, the more blunt it will be for the Liberals (P.M B.S C.C C.P… (Hey! its almost like an ironic accronym tale!???!) to die upon
I’m with John C – enough is enough – I’m officially on the separatist bandwagon now.
All day I hope for just one person to stand and be counted for something other than the crooks they associate with.
I trully believe these guys have misunderstood western anger – and have underestimated our outrage.
I wonder what we’ll call July 1st in Alberta!!!
I think pmpm ship is sinking, lets face it,it has many holes in it and is taking on water, really how much longer can it stay afloat?
andrewcoyne.com/2005/04/todays-massive-hair-raising-scandal.php
83keys of cocaine on board…does that stuff float when wet.
What a remarkably convenient question to ask your constituents. “Do you want an election now?” Why not something like “Do you feel the Liberals should be voted out of office”? Bet he would have gotten a much different answer.
Cadman had good reason to base his “poll” on a Liberal talking point. He had been bought and paid for, and already knew he would be using the “representing my constituents” excuse as provided to him by Tim Murphy.
And a decent sounding enough excuse it would have been had Gurmant Grewals tape not been released. Can anyone believe that the eerie similarity between Murphys statement and Cadmans position is coincidental? Give me a break.
Cadman had been bought the week before. His waffling was simply political theatre.
The Libs knew they had this thing sewed up when they snagged Belinda. You do not give Frank Stronach the kind of power that he was delivered yesterday unless you KNOW that you are going to get a huge return on your investment. That return on investment was knowing that they would win the confidence motions.
Not MAYBE win the motions. They knew for sure. And they knew for sure because they had Cadman in their back pocket.
Whatever Cadman might have been he is no longer. I would have actually still had some respect for him if he admitted he sold his vote for signifacant changes to the cause he has devoted his career to. But no. In perhaps what was the most important single vote ever cast by an independent MP Cadman hid behind the grassroots feignt.
I will guarantee you that 90% of his constituents could not name the size of the National debt, three people in the Gomery Inquirey (and I’ll let them have Gomery as a gimme), who Sheila Fraser is or that Chretien is trying to have Gomery removed from heading the inquiry.
This was far to important a vote to simply take a bogus poll. You are a sellout Cadman. Shitty part is you will likely be re-elected if you choose to run again, because you have just given your constiuents a false sense of empowerment.
I just wish they could see how hard the Liberal power brokers are laughing at them and their MP.
Its not like the dude has much of political LIFE left anyway, so why worry to much about old Chucky. I say give him the senate position right away.
Can someone please tell me why Conservative Canadians have never managed to form a true national party? Canadians with sense need to wake up, unite, organize, and run on a principled platform with freedom as the central plank. And no, I don’t just mean the sacred freedom of Canadian child killers who have “paid their dues”. I mean your own freedom and the freedom of your children.
The biggest threat to Canada is that you’ve lost your freedom of speech (if not your democracy, such as it is), and you better find a damn good plan to get it back. Your press is a white wash and their message boards forums are heavily controled and censored (The National). If they can’t censor them fast enough, they dismantle them (CBC).
I have had quite civil posts trashed many times. I get edited like crazy. You do not have any forums of scope for uncensored public political debate. The public censorship exercised in Canada is stifling. Not to mention the threats of legislating freedom of speech on blogs.
The only people left with a right to free speech in Canada are the America haters. To be honest, it’s creepy. Get a party and pull a platform together, please. Good luck to you.
Yes, Chucky was sewn up already on Tuesday when Martin and his shit-eating grin showed up with his catch-of-the-day (BS). The only moment of tension for the Libs was this morning when the wingnut Parrish feigned sick to secure her diplomatic appointment. The “polling the constituents” line was a load of crap fed by Martin’s office (same as the Grewal tape suggestion). By the time fall turns to winter, Chucky will be resting on the beach as ambassador to Bermuda, Barbados and/or Turks & Caicos.
No what ya mean Tom,
It’s bloody stupid here and the national media, powered by the Librano$, spread there propaganda everywhere. If you buck the system, your classed as uncanadian, but your not allowed to leave.
That’s why the only way change will come, is with a truly radical shift and a split in the country. Even if the country were to break apart, they would still do everything in there power to maintain there base. The fringes get raped to create dependency, and after there in that realm, there totally afraid to do anything to get out.
That’s why there is such hatred towards AB primarily, because it dug itself out, and were no longer dependant. So the objective is to throw Kyoto at primarily AB, and again create a dependency so that we can kneel to librano rule, because librano is Canada.
Think I’m radical, well OK I’m radical cause I don’t fall into the grand scheme of things. I see the circle of librano life:
http://www.think-aboutit.com/Conspiracy/rockefeller_links_of_canadian_po.htm
and get totally sick that we accept this kind of thing. I do have to say, though, that your turn may be coming as well if you don’t find an alternative to go up against Hillary in 2009. I think the Democrats share the same vision as the Librano$ with a slow progressive errosion into socialism.
Tom Penn: I totally agree with you. But that will be much easier to do for one province than with the lot. Alberta will be just fine. BC can join if they want to but their socialist element will have to be told that they are no longer to be tolerated. Saskatchewan and Manitoba would be welcome but their socialists will have to find another home as well.
No, I’m not an Albertan. But if they get their act together I’m goin’ back.
Conservatives outfoxed by Liberals – the story of Cdn politcs. The Conservatives should adopt a new slogan – Never the bride, always the bridesmaid.
Awfully quiet around here. Almost as if, someone died.
What more elegant proof do we need of the liberals willingness and in fact activity towards the recruitnment of other parties MP’s the only thing is is that harper and the gang are not capitalizing on it. It already states in the conflict of interest and bribing of MP’s legislation that offering of money or other considerations is a criminal offence, what would you call a significant increase in pay married to a plum cabinet post. In this case it is a bribe, were she to have jumped ship and given a backbencher position, her acceptence of this bribe and the PM’s offering of this bribe would be beyond reproach. And also beleivable. As it is we can all take this as evidence that the liberal party of canada beleives us all to be for sale. And cheap. This party must be brought down, at all costs playing the same kind of underhanded treasonous beyond question low back knifing politics the liberals do. But we must do this in a superior, more tactically smart manner. This is a war, therefore all economies of war, their disciplines and, methods of interaction with the enemy must be followed. Also in case no one noticed the liberals declared this war on us their Canadian People when they began to steal and launder our money, when they made alliances with organized crime, when they use the very laws made to protect this countries citizenship to oppress us and restrict our property ownership and freedoms of association. Oh and to the gloating fuckwits who think someone died around here, it is only the last of my restraint and tolerance of your treasonous complicity in corruption. To hell with you and all your kind, to support a government that steals from you and then bribes you with a tiny fraction your own fucking money is either stupid to the point of needing to have instructions to breathe, or just as corrupt as the theives. That you can read, and even spell suggests the latter in profound terms. I hope you are discovered in a compromizing position with a goat, sheep, snake or rat you vile, low, scheming waste of your mothers milk. But of course this is why you are pushing forward the whole issue of SSM, with the liberal party so eventually you can be free to express your own predilictions.
The left side of the house and all those who would support it are dead to me
Daryl
What was your price Chuck??
Impact
I get the feeling from the Canadian blogs on my blogroll that many have been too stunned by events last night to write much about it. Or perhaps they’ve just taken my advice and have been overcome with apathy. But…
>> What was your price Chuck??
perhaps 30 pieces, that’s what I hear the last guy got for the same job
Perhaps instead of beating up on Chuck, we should all be praising Kilgore – if he had voted with the Libs, the MSM would be calling it a “landslide” victory for Martin.
