Belinda Stronach has crossed the floor to the Liberals, with a new cabinet post her bonus.
Well, we always knew she was a Liberal – they were just hagging over the price.
I wonder if she realizes how many new Western separatists she just created today with her comments about Conservatives not understanding the “complexity” of the country? That the party must “grow in Quebec” before it’s a national party? I wonder if she understands that her defection speech will be interpreted as another slap by a self-serving and politically ambitious Ontario power broker at western aspirations to finally have an equal voice in Canada?
Probably not. The woman is that stupid.

Always knew Belinda was a Liberal in Conservative clothing. Look at the close ties Magna Corp. has with Paul Desmarais et al. Guess Peter got caught thinking with the wrong head!!1
Not only a bimbette, but a traitor. I am now an avowed Western Separatist!!!
That means several things, I suggest.
First, the people behind her are, not simply her father, but Power Corp, Desmarais – i.e., the whole infrastructure that runs politics in this country. After all, Belinda, on her own has achieved nothing. Her job? She was head of her father’s corporation. How did she get into politics? Via her father and his cronies. So, she’s their puppet; the fact that she is willing to act this way is another story.
What’s the agenda of Power Corp? Their agenda is to maintain power – at any cost. The political system is simply their upfront office – and they must control that upfront office.
They are worried that they will lose power via Martin. That suggests…and I’m just musing here..that they think that Martin on his own will lose the election. They are setting up Belinda as his sidekick.
That also suggests that they know that can’t run Harper. What puzzles me is… IF they felt that Martin would win the election ..they wouldn’t need Belinda with the Liberals. They could leave her with the CPC, to take-over from Harper if the CPC lost.
So, they must think that Harper might win the election…and they would be in trouble because they can’t run him..and Belinda would be ‘out’.
So- they have put Belinda in with Martin, to help him win the election with her as his trophy.
Make any sense???
Is there any honest politician left in Canada, or is this how our society works now? Screw over as many people as you can, as long as you get ahead? Have I fallen into Mirror Universe Canada and no one told me?
Let me know. If that’s how the game is played now, I got to call my (Liberal) MP. If we’re splitting into screwed and screwer, with no other choice, I want to be in the latter category.
So when do we get going on separartion? I am ready to rollllllll! Looks to me like Paul Desmarais has called in his debts from Belinda. She should never have run on the conservative ticket in the first place. Is anyone really surprised about Stronach? I predict that she will be running for the leadership of the Liberal Party during the next convention. Maybe in the end, the Conservatives should be glad she is gone!!!
I am still concerned & would really like to know just where Martin plans on getting the money to support all these billion dollar promises he has been making.
People need to realize that Bimbenda was and is a Power Corp. whore. Magna International and Power Corp. trade advisores like Mulroney and William Davis. It is clear that this was planned a long time ago and was saved for the right time. I am going to wait a little while yet, but I am not going to be part of a country where provinces are reduced to whoring themselves for Liberal dollars from Liberal governments. Either the country will sweep these scum from power, or, which is more likely, it will give soft federalists like me a reason to become hard core separatists. Canada has a choice… Banana Republic or a Federation of equals… anyone care to bet which it is? The Bloc have had it right all along.
Is it just me, or do politics and skullduggery go stratospheric once one crosses from Manitoba into Ontario. And I thought it got dirty in Saskatchewan. Long live the West!
I’m neither for the Conservatives nor the Liberals but Kate, I think she made a good point about the Conservatives not being a national party right now. Their support is still marginal in Quebec. Then again, the Liberals are very marginal in Quebec right now as well. I’m not sure if holding off several months on an election will make any difference in this.
I’m dying to see a statement by McKay as to what is happening with him, if anything.
Just printed off an application form for membership in the Separation Party of Alberta. I have felt for years the entire country was going to h_ _ _ in a handbasket real fast, now I’m sure. I believe in the traditional definition of marriage, it has served mankind since prehistoric times, to discard this into the trash heap as being no longer valid, invalidates our entire history and removes a major foundation stone of our civilization. Oh and Mr. Martin……
