Is Systemic Racism running rampant at Wilfrid Laurier?

Wilfrid Laurier professors David Haskell (Faculty of Liberal Arts) and William McNally (School of Business and Economics) have sent a letter to their university president, Dr. Deborah MacLatchy:

Our first concern is that adopting the CRT lens and declaring systemic racism seems hasty given that you have not yet defined the term ‘racism’. This lack of a definition is underlined by the fact that the fourth plank of your suggested action plan to fight systemic racism is to establish a definition of racism. One cannot take action to fix a problem until it is defined. And the different definitions imply different solutions. For example, solving individual racism differs significantly from solving systemic racism.

Second, according to CRT, to fix systemic racism requires making revolutionary changes to every part of the University from governance to curriculum and hiring. We are concerned that the Laurier community might not understand the profound nature of the implied changes.

  1. Brush off your CVs, there are a couple of positions at WLU that just opened up. Only non-white, non straight, non-common sense people need apply. Everyone else is just a racist and can bugger off and die.

Sorry, that is a rant from next week and not this week. The positions aren’t actually open yet.

  2. I really don’t know what the words CRT lens mean when used in this context. The funny thing is, and even though I know they can’t possibly mean that, when I saw CRT lens I just thought cathode ray tube lens. Now that goes back more than half a century.

    1. They used to sell those by mail order. You put one in front of a 17 inch screen and now it looks like a 21 inch screen. They also had tinted ones to make a B&W TV look like a colour TV.

  3. Critical Race Theory states that using the scientific method perpetuates white oppression.
Universities, like the Armed Forces and the SCOC (sure) are supposed to be apolitical.

Which of the two lines of bullshit stinks more?

    1. Critical Race What????
This kind of talk reminds me of the old EST self-help cult back in the 70’s. If somebody started yammering about CRT to me I would be in dire danger of passing out with laughter.

  4. Any policy that has anything to do with implementing affirmative action in any shape or form is systematic racism. Any policy that mentions the words “white privilege” is systematic racism. I venture that there isn’t a post secondary institution in the country that doesn’t meet these criteria and will address them by amplifying the systemic racism.

  5. Defund all higher education except STEM departments. The “systemic racism” crap is being pushed by academics whose PhDs aren’t even worth using as toilet paper.

  6. We need to shut the university down completely.
If there is any possibility that they are teaching racism to the young people there then it must be done immediately.
    Every second counts.
Students could be turning into racists there as we speak.

    1. Stan,
Those words are real but the timid want the Government to do the hard lifting and that won’t happen… A group that occupies the Admin Office has access to all files & financial documents…The systematic record of Marxism is available & publishing all the false CA’s will get rid of the garbage….

Just saying that citizen action is required @ all Universities… They are Marxist Cells….

  7. Show me the white man and I’ll show you the crime against whatever current minority serves the cabal’s collectivist cause.
Beria would be proud of how solutions as premises critical race theorists, never critical thought, discouraged western society.
Destabilization is well underway, now a handy crisis for mail in US elections and snap calls in Canada, to secure more power.
Finally normalization, aka radical collectivists creeps are mainstream, and those stupid live within your means types are fascists.
It’s OK to silence fascists; and we did it to ourselves, with a nudge from the KGB of course, and the sheeple let it happen.
We are being led to slaughter while being told we’re only getting sheered. Collectivism equals conflict equals war.
One obvious scenario: the caretaker figurehead Biden emboldens Islamists everywhere to attack Israel; and then what?
Time to review Bezmenov, along with a chilling re-read of 1984. “War is peace; freedom is slavery; ignorance is strength.”

  8. how dare they question official policy? 🙂
it is encouraging to see individuals catapult themselves into the highest offices of the ivory tower, take a seat at the table, and ask precise questions concerning the wisdom of implementing a “make it up as we go” programme.
    beauty, eh?

    1. Haskell and McNally have been quite vocal and up front in support of Peterson and Sheppherd right from the start. Try to keep up.
Haskell ran for the PPC last election.

  9. After the nonsense that they rained down on Jordan Peterson and Lindsey Shepherd it’s kind of ironic that they are concerned about how they see this as threatening.

“You wish to knock down any law to grab hold of the devil. But I will give even the devil benefit of the law, because without the law, what protection would you have when he turns on you?”

    It is legion

      1. No offence but my reference was with regard to the administration getting in a dither about the woke inquisition coming after them now.

So your point about the two being outspoken is correct, sorry for not clarifying.

    1. It is the left that sets up pretty much all of the systems that we all live with …. so it is they who are the racists … would you say?

Yet, they want to find out who the racists are in those systems. Mostly all people who work in ‘systems’ which are a form of ‘collective’ and that is where leftists are most comfortable …. are all leftists.

The conservatives they hope to snare mostly work outside of ‘systems’ as they find them too stifling and stupid.

  10. The free market is much more valuable than any University. Dollar for dollar, neuron for neuron. Research is faster, better, and solution oriented, Universities are slow, inefficient, and meandering. If the world lost every University tomorrow the world would still evolve, turn, and advance. The natural teachers would still teach, the inquisitive mind would still be inquisitive, and engineering, would still require a brain sharper than most.

Without Universities we discovered how to build grand structures, create many different languages, advance mathematics, invent microscopes, discover viruses, invented computers, developed rockets, learned to fly, and create many musical instruments.

I’m not saying, let’s close every post secondary school, but let’s not bother with 90% of the courses, and not allow every mutt who has a check to go there. In the old days, the people with weaker minds, at least had strong backs, now we get weak minds, with weak backs, and the gene pool keeps getting shallower.

    1. Yep, tell me which university trained the people who built the Pyramids? We have to learn but how do we learn? We do not accept propaganda as learning, that is why the level of stupid continues. Accepting lies is just freaking unacceptable yet we do it everyday. The government has been lying day after day about a freaking flu virus and the terminally stupid among us keep drinking the kool-aid. There is no way around this for a free man who hates being put in a box. Violence will erupt, eventually.

  11. The only systemic racism that exists in Canada is the fact that only people who can speak French fluently can attain high rank in any government dept including the Military and RCMP.

  12. “If a slogan is needed, it is this: Scientists should be left to speak about science. Historians should be
left to speak about history. And university presidents should be left to see to it that the chalk is in the
    classroom.”

    Nice.

  13. Do what thou wilt. I’m perfectly content to allow Universities to dig their own graves with their woke nonsense.
I think students, are waking up to the fact that there’s a direct correlation between rising tuition costs vs. professor salaries/administration costs. If they’re not, they should be.
Pretty shocking I’m sure for a student to accumulate thousands of dollars of debt for a shitty and unmarketable degree from a University with a reputation for idiocy, only to pour coffee at Starbucks while your professor of Indigenous Feminist studies rolls by in her late model Chevy Suburban which she claims she needs to truck the kids to school. Y’know, those kids she told you not to have because it’s a tool of enslavement or some such.

  14. There’s a reason we used to call it “the high school down the road”. Nobody takes WLU seriously.

Sadly, I can no longer look down my nose at WLU since U(W) has dived into the same cesspool.

I can’t help but notice that U(W) and WLU got along just fine with their small campuses for decades, but for some reason in the last ten years they’ve been throwing out satellite campuses all over SWO like a malevolent fungus sending out spores. If they have this kind of money, surely they no longer need federal/provincial funding or alumni donations.

  15. Taking bets if WLU still has students in five years, since they’re doubling and trippling down on the Woke-itude.

This semester, Corona proved that you don’t have to GO to university to watch the lectures and pass the courses. Infinite class size means Canada doesn’t -need- for there to be a Wilfred Laurier University. Their bros in government will continue to cover for them, but will parents still send their kids to Woke U?

  16. From the lengthy but cogent letter by Sinclair MacRae:

However, rather than making antiracism our target I respectfully suggest that you broaden the focus of that work to trying to
understand the causes of injustice at MRU and in our society and the role of racism in this. This
more neutral way of framing such work does not presuppose that we already know the answers
to both empirical and evaluative questions about racism and justice.

  17. This? Oh nothing, thought I’d put a little meat on the bone as to why a student’s debt load is as high as it is.

    My favorite breakdown.
    Breaking down the numbers
    Among the 637 Wilfrid Laurier University’s employees, who received more than six-figure salaries 57 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 280 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 248 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 45 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 5 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , 2 received over $300,000 at Wilfrid Laurier University.

And don’t get me started on their benefits.

Ms.MacLatchy… $353,100.05 . And that’s for 2019. Good work if you can find it.

  18. From their web site: “Laurier’s focus on fostering an equitable, diverse and inclusive community spans many university initiatives. The university has a Canada Research Chairs Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan in place and supports a number of groups working on EDI-related issues, such as the Laurier Centre for Women in Science; the Centre for Indigegogy, which focuses on decolonizing education; and the Laurier Centre for Community Research, Learning and Action and Social Innovation Research Group, which both focus on inclusive, community-engaged research”.

To read this garbage is nauseating.

    1. the Laurier Centre for Women in Science

This part especially amuses me; WLU does not have a science faculty even worth mentioning.

  19. Are there still white people there? Then yes, there is still systemic racism there.

  20. Seems like questioning the obvious, but why does Laurier “focus on fostering an equitable, diverse and inclusive community”?
Shouldn’t there be a focus on learning instead of creating a community?
Shouldn’t people create their own community instead of having it force fed to them by The Authority?

If you want the rough and tumble of true intellectual debate and learning then that should be the focus, not making everybody feel included in the community.

  21. Universities have clearly lost their way both in terms of teaching and research. Both can be done much more efficiently using other means and other infrastructure.
They are blowing up in front of our eyes.
All this posturing about irrelevant crap while ignoring the real enemy. Students /parents are looking at alternative pathways to education. Companies are looking for more efficient research partnerships.

  22. I am not apposed to madness.
But I am extremely opposed to being forced to fund it.
If we do not return to the official workplace after covid, could we be said to be on strike?
Taxes are theft, when you get nothing but mismanagement and kleptocracy for your tax dollar.
Emperor Justine, lord of the Can Ahh Duh Kleptocracy.
Universities helped fund and sell the little emperor, they sold us damaged goods advertised as “good”.
    Crush them.
Especially as they currently enable and promote BURN LOOT MURDER.

  23. This is Evergreen college and Bret Weinstein over again but across the border.
