    also brings back memories for me. I was a grad student at UBC when that song was on the charts. There used to be an FM pop music station based just across the border in Bellingham, Washington that I liked to listen to. This was one piece that was often played.

    That station had a nice format. I think its programming was pre-packaged because it didn’t have obnoxious DJs and I think their ads came on after a certain time interval or x many songs. I can’t remember its callsign but I don’t think it’s around any more, which is a pity. It was pleasant to listen to while I was debugging computer code.

      1. That sounds familiar. Thanks. I was at UBC a bit earlier and I found that station accidentally when I was tuning across the dial one day.

        There was, however, an FM station in Vancouver that used to have an excellent 2-hour classical music program starting at 8 or 9 PM most weeknights. (I think it was called Starlight Concert.) All I remember of the station’s callsign was CHQ but I can’t remember the last letter. I’ll have to look through my old editions of the World Radio TV Handbook to see if it was listed.

        One of the hosts of that show ran The Magic Flute, the classical music record shop in Kitsilano. At that time, it had one of the best selections of recordings in North America, all of them either vinyl or cassette tapes. Compact disks weren’t on the market until 3 or 4 years later.

As a transplant from DC to the boonies long ago, I’ve noticed that we provide all the food, power, waste disposal, and excess taxes it takes to keep the cities alive, while they export their pollution, laws that should only apply to dense populations, crime, and…tax after tax to fund their fake sustainability – while using projection to claim they are more efficient, more cultured and so on. We don’t see it that way (vast understatement).

      Just as a slave-master would behave toward the slaves. Only we country folk are perhaps a little tougher to enslave over the long term. Our tolerance has been misapprehended as willingness to be subjugated.

      And it’s very nearly at its end. We know who can do without who, and I think we easily win that little scuffle.

  14. Here in BC we are waiting for the announcement that, yes, proportional representation has PASSED! The idea that it takes 3 weeks for a vote count makes sceptics like me immediately wonder how difficult the media manipulating process is. We can get provincial election results the same night of voting but not this? Last I heard the voter turnout was less than 40%. The ballot was deliberately misleading so that spoilt ballets would be huge on the “No” side.

    My only hope is that a sizable number of Dippers will realize that voting for Proportional Representation will condemn them to a minority force for some time. Huge number of Dippers vote the way they do simply because they know the Greenies cannot elect members in ‘first past the post’. BC is doomed!

      His work is important. Perhaps the delivery of his message may have come off as too offensive- telling the people he addressed at convocations, for example, saying the West was ‘obtuse’ regarding the definition between ‘right and wrong’, as it applied to the politics of the West. (he was right, of course)

      The flick “Moscow On The Hudson” portrayed the desperateness of the Russian people. Robyn Williams superbly portrayed this in his part albeit at times, with a comedic flare. (The tough-to-imitate Russian accent was no small feat.) I really liked the movie the first time, but like Dr. Zhivago, once is enough, for they both are too sad.

      Finally, in the comments after the piece, a comment by a person named Ancient Briton stood out, it was: “Communism never goes away, it just comes back in a new guise.” How true.

  21. Just read that one of the problems with Alberta separation is that there still wouldn’t be an outlet to tidewater to get oil to markets.
    I would suggest that a fee of $8000 per rail car entering Alberta from B.C. would easily makeup the 80 million dollars a day currently being lost due to lack of new pipelines and get B.C.’s attention in a hurry.

    In short, they broke a good man over an ethical lapse for political gain and perhaps revenge (Obama admin hated him).

    Halleluiah! A judge just pushed the reset button, demanding all of Mueller’s evidence, every bit of it. Watch him dance on this.

    I hope the judge admonishes Mueller, throws all of it out, and tells Flynn to sue Mueller and his police state jackals on civil rights.

I didn’t particularly like Tennison, the prequel for the Helen Mirren series Prime Suspect dull and uninteresting. Endeavour (the prequel for the excellent Inspector Morse) is OK, but weak because I can’t really see the connection between the younger Morse and the character played by John Thaw.

      The only one that’s been worth watching for me is Better Call Saul, which provides background to some of the characters in Breaking Bad.

      1. Check out the writer’s credits. I’d be surprised if it was not good. Anything can happen to wreck it, like poor acting, though. It takes place between 1968 and 1975 during the Newark riots. Just imagine the wardrobes and up-do puffy hairstyles and men with long hair?

        Apparently the script is a closely guarded secret. I have hope.
