Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Did not the candidate say we have been to 57 states and we have one more to go?
He did, Lev.
Too funny and then some.
Unfortunate that Carroll O’Conner is no longer with us…He would have made a great president for these troubled times.
Made us all laugh too!
It is somewhat ironic that Norman Lear, who created the series, attempted to ridicule the conservative spectrum of middle America by means of the character Archie Bunker.
Whoever orchestrated that clip should be nominated for an Academy Award. Hope to see it go viral like the Jordan letter.
I generally loathe sitcoms from the ’70s, but I have a certain minor obsession with All in the Family. I watched a bunch of episodes a few years ago on some rerun station. I don’t really get it – Edith, who seems to be clinically retarded, is an especially annoying character. Still, the whole set-up of this enormously succesful sitcom is fascinating to me; arch Liberal Norman Lear creats the show as a family sitcom starring a dreamy(?) sympathetic progressive protagonist (Meathead) and a jackass straight man foil (Carroll O’Connor). Archie was supposed to be the butt of every joke, Meathead the perpetual hero. And yet no one could find me an instance where Archie is not entirely correct. A jerk, sure, uncouth, sure, but correct. Watching epsodes of All in the Family (which I don’t like to do, because all ’70s shows are just so gawdaful) is fascinating; it’s just observing a brave lefty experiment eating itself.
There are words for what I think of Obama, but I shouldn’t type them.
I’d probably like to buy some of this, if it’s around.
old duffer
“Unfortunate that Carroll O’Conner is no longer with us…He would have made a great president for these troubled times.”
Bad idea…you confuse O’Connor with his character Archie Bunker…..O’Connor was quite outspoken and slightly to the left of Che…..
In real life O’Connor was a meat head!
I read a few years ago that the success of All In The Family, to Lear’s chagrin, was because half the audience was tuning in to agree with Archie.
They laughed when Archie said to stop hijacking all we need to do is allow the passengers to be armed.
That is the answer actually. Or at least the part of the answer relating to someone trying to commandeer the plane.
If a bomb gets on board, there is not much anyone can do, but that’s the job of the TSA. You know … those people who put on their uniforms and drive in from their trailer parks to harass travelers for about 12 bucks an hour.
“Did not the candidate say we have been to 57 states and we have one more to go?”
Yes, but he may have also meant 59 states in total, but he stated that his staff had taken Alaska and Hawaii off the list, he so he may mean that he has done 55 and has two to more to go.
But then, you can’t believe anything that asshole says anyway.
Why should the average Kenyan be expected to know how many states are in the USA?
57 states, I know,I know, its an old joke.
But the jokes on anyone else, who feels puffed up, and superior, about having paid $500,000 to graduate from Harvard.
Talk about NOT getting your moneys worth.
Wasn’t the show based on the British comedy series,Till death do us part?,funny the right wing character in that series,Alf Garnet, was written as an idiot but was seen by the british public as voicing their concerns
Shows like Archie Bunker have become almost prophetic.
They show the hollow reed of the left perfectly, since they got their way. Every thing has just degenerated . mean while what the so called bigot said has the ring of truth. Funny how that happens.
Brilliant.
Black Mamba: 70’s music was no better (disco)-few exceptions.
Edith being portrayed as clinically retarded gave the message that only an exceedingly stupid women would hook her wagon to someone who thought like Archie Bunker.
Lear practically owned TV in the 70’s.
Absolutely brilliant! I’m old enough to remember All in the Family as a first-run prime time series. Funny how Archie’s words were so prophetic. Tragic, however, that it came about.
Archie to O:
“Stifle, Barry!”
Can’t stand listening to that evil lying blowhard, had to turn it off.
Archie’s voice is not perfect either.
