Probably, he seems to want to re-establish the Soviet empire, and Poland was a vassal state from 1945 – 89. Much of Poland was also under Russian rule for most of the 19th century, right up until the first world war gained the Poles their independence back. Russia invaded Poland in 1920 but the Poles were successful in eventually pushing them back. (My teenage father grew up in Poland and was conscripted to bury the dead.)

          And then what? What will he want next? I recall learning of a negotiated “Peace in our time.” and how well that worked out.

          I share your apprehension of nuclear annihilation, but where do you draw the line, and how do you know it will hold?

            Ethnic Russians are only in the Donbas because of Russian occupation of Ukraine for most of the 20th century. Just like ethnic Chinese are now living in Nepal & Mongolia.

            The point is not whether Ukraine’s government are saints or demons, the point is that Russia invaded a neighbouring nation and you think that’s just fine.

            I bet you’re OK with China invading Taiwan too. With Biden in the White House, I have no doubt they were planning it, until they saw the Ukes beating back the Russians.

      50% of my family tree is Ukrainian, dating back over 100 years in Alberta before the Soviet era. It’s disheartening to see the 4 generations removed overwhelmingly supporting this obviously sick and demented destruction of Ukraine, simply because their great granddaddies were born there without any concept of the bigger picture.

      When this is over, Ukraine will be a smoking no-mans land, an empty poor desert buffer between Russia and the West. The best European countries can hope for is that it doesn’t spread beyond Ukraine into Europe proper. Regardless even if the west thinks it has won it will lose, Russia will forever support all global measures to take down the west, Ukrainian arms deals will end up in the hands of terrorist organizations around the world, as will Russian arms.

      This is a historical global disaster that will forever change world security, and yet we have all these idiots running around supporting Zoolander and the Globalist psychopaths looking to buy or steal a new 400ft yacht.

  15. One thing about this that sickens (but doesn’t surprise) me is that not one of those present, not even one of those who refused to applaud the man from Kiev, had the stones to just get up and walk out. The all just sat there and let the grifter run his mouth.

    Zelenskyy’s use of rhetorical devices was good, but obvious and overt. The demand for even more money was clumsy, but the corrupt politicians love the kickbacks from Ukraine so they applauded.

    Churchill was a master orator; Zelenskyy is not.

    I notice the bitter people that complained about the money spent on personal space flights that could have been used to feed the poor are silent about how many poor could be fed with the billions going to Ukraine. Granted, some money is being used to feed some people.

    I have interacted with several ethnicities and there is one universal truism: at least 90% of the common (substitute a better word if you wish) people are identical. They are doing their best to survive, raise their kids, and hope to have a little left over when they are done.

    It is only a few that seek power over others and are willing to do anything including committing heinous acts to acquire money and power. I am unhappy to say the numbers are increasing.

    One corrupt country invaded another. The corrupt leader of Ukraine understands how to manipulate public opinion better than the corrupt leader of Russia. The systemic corruption in Ukraine is offset by the funding of western powers whereas the systemic corruption in Russia has destroyed their military from within.

    Crimea. Russia won and saw no reason to change their military system. Ukraine lost and took steps to improve their military.

    Putin is irredentist and wants Ukraine to help restore Russia’s former glory. Ukraine wants Russia out out and Crimea back. There is a substantial motivation advantage to Ukraine.

    Corruption , better equipment, and motivated troops beat corruption, poorly maintained equipment, and dispirited troops every time.

    Sanctions, tariffs, and other similar actions are more powerful as a threat than as a weapon in use. These are only effective in the short term before the effects blowback on both economies. Strategic bombing never won a war and the costs to both sides is enormous. The British, the German, and the Japanese people remained unbowed after years of strategic bombing. Sanctions, tariffs, and the like are economic strategic bombing. All of these fall in the category of attritional warfare. WW1 was attritional warfare on an industrial scale. Attritional warfare means shoot first, shoot some more, and keep shooting until everyone except one person is dead. The one remaining person is the “winner.” Economic attritional warfare means the last country to obliterate their own economy “wins.”
