Amateur Hour

This week’s media pile-on directed at Alberta and Saskatchewan was a deliberate political trap, timed and designed to benefit the federal Liberals and NDP on Monday.

The strategy: to force a humiliating public policy reversal on vaccine “passports” to anger the libertarians/conservative base and drive votes from Erin O’Toole to the PPC.

Premiers Jason Kenney and Scott Moe took the bait.

Mission accomplished.

  1. “End COVID for good.”

That’s the goal now? End COVID for good? What happened to “Flatten the curve” or “herd immunity”?

Seriously? This is what some media mouthpiece actually “believes”? He might want to read upon some SCIENCE

    1. There is no Science anymore…there is just ‘the science’, which is whatever can be manipulated to serve their particular agenda.

One could see this for what it was a mile away. Ginning up support for the PPC will likely enable The Turd to eke out another win.

      1. And it’s not “science” until there are more “Blacks” and other vizmins, not to mention xim/xer/xits involved. Until that happens it’s only white man’s horse puckey.

At least that’s what I’ve been told by the American Association for the Advancement of Science ever since Trump was elected.

      2. “Ginning up support for the PPC will likely enable The Turd to eke out another win.”

Yes, let’s go out and vote harder for the CPC. As if they will do a damn bit of good for this hopelessly broken country. We had nine years of Harper and look where we are now. Do you really think O’Toole would do anything meaningful to reverse the direction of this country?

I wasn’t surprised that Kenney caved; he’s a putz and Alberta will pay for his ineptness with an NDP government again, in all likelihood. I was surprised that Moe caved; I thought he was made of sterner stuff, but nothing should surprise me in this country any more.

        1. The calls not to split the vote will ramp up to hysterical levels; too bad, your fault O’Toole advisors. You cannot kick you supporters in the teeth, take their wallet and still expect them to vote for you.

      3. Not if CPC supporters in swing ridings hold their noses and vote for Erin.

I agree, Kate, this was a Liberal-MSM pact to siphon-off CPC votes, hopefully in ridings that will not change stripes, like my Liberal forever-until-she-retires Hedy Fry riding. I can afford to give a policy heads-up to the CPC (you suck) without affecting the outcome by voting for the platform I like, PPC. At the policy convention, we did not vote for the platform O’Toole is using.

Erin O’Toole could have not have said very much to get out of that box, as he had already joined the “get vaxxed” crowd, and has been accused of “about turns”. He knows very well that health care is mostly a provincial responsibility, and will not trash his fellow tories, which would be headlines.

        1. Or people should stop voting conservative as they conserve nothing and have essentially identical platforms as the liberals.

Maybe just maybe people should wise up and vote for a party that seems to actually give an f. And might actually do something in power that would actually benefit the people of this country. Or you know don’t hold your nose as you say and vote for the same morons that haven’t done anything and won’t do anything to help anyone or push anything that might even smell like a conservative policy. Yes that’s a good idea that seems to work well.

Then you can b*tch and moan for another 5 to 10 years about how crappy the parties are while continuing to enable both sets of losers

          1. As a government you still have to get your changes past the Mandarins.
THEY are the ones who implement and enforce policy.
They can stymie you at every junction, using the Courts who are in their pocket, if they have to.
Then you have the Pretorian Guard ( RCMP ) and useless Military to convince.
Look at Trump, it’s a miracle he accomplished anything.

To effect real change takes balls, cunning and a Stalinist bent.
Need to knock some heads and break a few eggs.
Then you become the very thing you despise.
Hard to be a modern day George Washington.

    2. It has always been a “war on covid”, to eliminate covid. This was a deliberately chosen ipossible goal as it then provides infinite room to do whatever you want in the name of the goal, as it will never be attained.

  2. Of course it was all planned. The Liberal cult are experts at strategic attacks. The bought and paid for media today was all over O’Toole on why he and Kenny are killing Canadians with the China virus. No mention that B.C., Ontario, and Quebec are also seeing a rise in cases.

  3. nothing amateur about it. Fuhrer Moe was always going to implement a vaccine passport and when that doesn’t make a difference he’ll limit how many people we are legally permitted in our homes like he did last Xmas and winter.

Moe is tyrant, worse than Trudeau on every metric.

    1. Moe is tyrant, worse than Trudeau on every metric.

Kenney’s working hard to outdo both of them. Because of his fake virus scare, my apartment’s rental office has restricted its hours to noon to 5 PM.

Kenney, I referred to as a spineless bag of goo a few days ago. It seems I paid you a compliment you don’t deserve.

  4. It beggars belief that Kenney could not have at least waited until Tuesday next week to announce the measures. He’s unwittingly delivered a parcel bomb to the federal Tories as their base flees to the PPC. That he could not figure out the trick the MSM was playing on him is a clear indication that he has got to go.

    1. This didn’t happen without discussions with the Feds. What was said only God, Kenney and some Feds know. Kenney c ertainly played into Trudeau’s hands.

      1. Wonderful, a new Turd government, the country fails, we get the anarchy needed for the people to rise up and throw off the tyrants the only way that will work and it ain’t voting.

    2. There was a lot of indications Kenny has to go, starting with the leadership convention and the indications will continue right up until he actually goes. He was an Ottawa plant all along.

    3. Even without this why should the con base stay. What are they doing that might actually help me or this country. They have offered me two mentally challenged lame ducks as party leaders. They have done nothing to gain my confidence and run on liberal platforms. How often do these people have to suck at life before people like you entertain the idea of an alternative?

    1. Looking at the protests in France and Quebec I’d say they need that reputation stripped and placed on us English speaking countries. God were pathetic here.

  5. I already voted for the PPC so their tactic didn’t work on me. But yeah, it doesn’t help the conservatives at all.

And the Sask Party and Scott Moe political prospects also belong in the garbage bin.

    1. Yep, I will never vote for a person or party that supports segregation and discrimination. That mode of thought, that mindset is what led Canadian governments to Japanese internment and the sterilisation of aboriginal women and “undesirables”. It didn’t happen all at once, of course, the foundation of bigotry and normalization of discrimination where the intermediate steps. The initial step was fear.

Did Moe and Kenney get played? Do they not understand history? Are they just typical control freak politicians? Is it BoB? What a my$tery, I gue$$ we’ll never know the true rea$on$.

  6. I guess Ford didn’t lie when he said all the premiers want internal passports.
Kate, you’re being charitable to Kenney and Moe. “took the bait” Maybe they are not playing for the team that you thought they were playing for?

  7. I can’t believe what is going on. How can they do this? Telling people they can’t enter certain in places if they don’t take a certain medication is against the charter of rights and freedoms.

    1. the charter of rights and freedoms

What’s that again? Oh, that document that only the foolish proles thought would protect their rights….

        1. The bill of rights brought in by Diefenbaker was in many ways superior to the Trudeau version. Current mythology has Trudeau I giving the serfs their freedom but it was just a pre-commie constitution giving the government protection to move ‘forward’. One of the best arguments for Wexit, a house cleaning.

    2. That was what contract tracing was for.
To add your medical status is illegal.
Politicians may push that it is but lawyers will tell you it’s not.
The excuse of EMERGENCY USE is pretty thin in the use of a power grab.
Almost 2 years EMERGENCY is too long to not fix the problems.
      Instead they’re making it worse.

  8. I honestly cannot decide if Kenney is a liberal mole, a coward or just plain old fashioned stupid.

Most likely a toxic mix of all three.

  9. Trough choppers like Pallister, Kenny, & Moe, not to mention every other Premier will all walk away with lucrative gold plated, taxpayer funded pensions, so, like they give a shit about what they inflict on us peons? Trudeau has already pledged to give them each 1 billion of our dollars to implement in the end what will be a Federal CCP Social Credit Score, scam. Schwab and Gates must be just grinning.

  10. Please stop it.

The choice is clear: do you want to win, or don’t you?

Last time I checked, the West was not particularly happy with Mr. Harper, either (correction to my response last evening: my late father voted for Stephen J. Harper 5 times, not three times — add 2004 and for leader; I voted 7 times for Stephen Harper).

The most aggravating and most discussed question is: how do we end this thing? IMO, the prevailing sentiment (also among Liberals we know — many, actually — is that, “If you don’t want to get vaccinated, don’t get vaccinated. But if you get sick, don’t expect to be ahead of me (me, actually) if I have a heart attack or stroke (remotely possible in both cases) for health care services.”

The rest is nonsense: Mr. Bernier, who I supported straight down the line for Conservative leader, is nothing more, now, than a demagogic trouble-maker, looking to make up for his loss in some consolatory sense. Pity him. I didn’t leave my despatch box on the living room table, did I?

Vote however you wish: we’ve seen this movie many times before, and it doesn’t end well, on any viewing.

P.S.: Jason Kenney is a friend of mine.

    1. And when the inevitable train of consequences associated with taking medical treatment without full information and consent arrives I will have exactly as much sympathy for you.

      1. Precisely. If I end up having as little as a hangnail, I expect to be treated prior to millions of gullible, sick vaxxers.

    2. What is the point of winning just to get the same bloody policies., the same torpor hanging over the country, the miasma of bureaucrats ruling by mandate. You seem to be missing the point, Mr. Southam. Elections are indeed a time for accounting, for ALL politicians, not just the ones on the other side.

    3. P.S.: Jason Kenney is a friend of mine.

Your postscript should have been your lead.

    4. Canadians have also voted for the “fiscal conservative” and so on.

      And here we are.

It’s like trying to stop a train going full speed down the mountain by trying that suggestion that one guy no one listens to mentioned a million times before everything went to crap.

      I saw that movie, too.

    5. The health care bigotry is widely wielded. Contrary Canada Health Act. More importantly, contrary to all decency.
Is there a site we can go to where priority of the sinners is listed? obese, smoking, vaccinations, drugs, speeders, climbers, skiers, drunks, travelers, homos, meat eaters, snowmobilers, sky divers, STDs, sun bathers, ….
Sure will save the health budget when all sinners are turned away.

      1. Will taxes go down when we’ve won?
will the carbon tax still exist after we’ve won?
will AB still be paying +80% of the equalization money which the intergenerational welfare dependent provinces in the east collect?
will AB still have 1 MP for 140k citizens while the Atlantic dependencies have between 40k and 85k citizens for 1 MP?
will my 1 vote equal one of their votes?
will Quebec still have 33% of SCOC judges while only having 22% of the population of Old Canada?
will the CBC be sold when we’ve won?
will I have property rights when we’ve won?

        when is the separation referendum?
that’s the one we need to win, then we’ll know if we’ve actually won, or are slaves to Old Eastern Canada.
then, your grandkids will say things like, “thanks grandpa”
instead of things like, “what the hell were you people thinking”?

    6. David – pass on to your friend that he was elected with a huge mandate because he positioned himself as a conservative.

All he needs to do is simply take a look at how Ron DeSantis operates. Its that simple.

I think the ruling class – including Kenney and Moe – are all on the same side and stunts like this are just political theatre for the plebes.

Remember when Republicans put forward unanimous motions to end Obamacare when they didnt have the votes to do it?

Then when voters awarded them power – gee whiz – just couldn’t seem to get the votes to get it done. Just fell a bit short darn it.

      All. A . Scam.

Chris Sky is right when he says we are not going to vote our way out of this. Only way out is united non compliance

    7. Sorry, don’t buy this narrative, except for the timing part … the real intention is to switch votes from CPC to Liberal. The Liberal Party would be smart enough to know that the PPC has maxed out its support and many of their voters already voted in the advance polls. They want to switch a few urban ridings in western Canada with this charade. Half a dozen ridings making that sort of switch might be the difference between holding on to power or becoming the Opposition.

Anyway don’t blame Max or the PPC for running an actual conservative campaign, nobody else seemed up to the challenge.

    8. Appears the West wants Trudeau to win if we can believe the comments here, a vote for PPC, Maverick or whatever will only help Trudeau.

Max is remaining in politics to do all he can to thwart Conservatives from winning.

      1. That’s more of a condemnation of the conservatives than I think you meant. The fact that the conservative people are desperately seeking out a conservative politician is quite damning to the party claiming to be conservative. Maybe if they were they wouldn’t have to worry about an upstart party. But since they are so worried they should probably reexamine themselves and their policies. But they won’t cuz they still have mooks among the populace that will vote for their name because they are gold fish and conveniently forget about how often and seriously they have been f’ed by the conservative party.

    9. david, you are aware that if Max had not quit, he would have been kicked out. And would have started a party any way, so your take is BULLSHIT, nothing more. PP, had been down graded Sloan kicked out, that member from Yukon, booted. So what do you think
these folks should do when treated like they have been. In ontario we were lucky to get rid of Patdick brown, but we ended up with a liberal plant, which is as bad or worst than Patdick. I think the liberals are out maneuvering the con voters, by installing plants, and many are to stupid to grasp that, you included.

  11. They’re all gone; O’Toole, Ford, Kenney, the other guys, all crispy toast. In Ontario, try the New Blue Party formed by Jim Karoholis and his wife. Volunteer, be a candidate.

  12. As I see politicians fall into lockstep behind segregation and discrimination my initial thoughts are…God damn, how bad are the stinking, rotten, festering skeletons in your closet.

Remember most of these “conservative” politicians stated that vaccine mandates and passports were divisive and unethical. This isn’t ignorance of the corrosiveness of such policies, they have recently and publicly acknowledged the toxicity.

      1. Politicians are control freaks and full of bullshit. But, what Moe and Kenney have done and the timing of the announcements doesn’t even pass that sniff test. What they’ve done reeks of corruption.

        1. It really has become the more important question – who has all these politicians by the short and curlies and is forcing them to go for vax passports and vax mandates, what leverage do they have, and why are they so insistent on everyone getting vaxxed?

Looking behind the curtain to see the wizard is THE most important thing now. We need to know who the real enemy is. We need to know the enemy’s weapon being used on the pols. And we need to know the enemy’s end goal.

(I have seen press conferences where Doug Ford looks exactly like a Viet Nam POW reading a propaganda statement. Someone is controlling him somehow. I fucking want to know who, how and why).

          1. Heard rumors that when Fat Douggie was a youngster he sold large quantities of drugs.
Because papa was a powerful peon he was spared.
But it was noted on his file for future use against him as leverage should he ever take up the reins of his late father.

If true , this and any other dirt they had on his brother Rob would certainly destroy the business, Decca Labels not to mention ruin the Ford families future political ambitions.
Maybe THEY have more dirt, threats to his family, who knows.
Frankly, I wouldn’t care if he murdered his grounds keeper as long as he would resist this tyranny.

I would vote for him over and over, fuck his prior indiscretions if he would NOT BUCKLE.

        2. The Chinese-spread virus was a gift.

Read the vaccine passports articles and see what one is allowed to do. One is monitored even when one goes to a restaurant.

How can people not see this as government intrusion?

  13. If team O’Toole had a bit of intellectual fire power and some backbone they’d have a good answer for these questions. Goodness knows they’ve had time to prepare one.

    1. What’s happening now is the hospitals will have to close as our politicians overstep and miss use their ’emergency powers’.
      Just don’t comply.
Many businesses are going to close as the government laws have done this.

    2. “If brains were gas, he wouldn’t have enough to light a barbeque”

-David Letterman referring to Don Ohlmeyer in interview with guest Norm McDonald

  14. “This week’s media pile-on directed at Alberta and Saskatchewan was a deliberate political trap…Premiers Jason Kenney and Scott Moe took the bait.”

Haha, yeah, sure, that’s the most plausible explanation. Two grown men, occupying the most powerful political offices in their respective jurisdictions, for whom open defiance and mockery of the “liberal media” has heretofore been to their distinct political advantage, suddenly make what they must know to be potentially career-ending policy reversals simply because of a week-long “media pile-on.”

Couldn’t possibly be that Kenney’s and Moe’s COVID-19 policy choices over the summer led to predictable surges by early September. Couldn’t possibly be that they would rather be known as premiers who admitted making mistakes on wave 4 than as politicians who fiddled while people died in overwhelmed hospitals. Couldn’t possibly be that their sense of public duty, their offices’ responsibility to the entire public, outweighs their own partisan self-interests, let alone your psychological need for ideological purity.

    1. Why are you so afraid to let this virus (which mutates, has no cure nor effective treatment a la “vaccines”) run its course?

Will you see that this was nothing more than a fear tactic?

      1. Flu shots were always widely seen as useless, treating last year’s flu virus, or at best making a prediction at how last year’s virus would mutate into the current year’s. Lots of anecdotal info that they would sometimes aggravate flu symptoms.

There is no cure for the common cold. Despite years and years and who knows how much research time and money.

But the same crew trying to cure the cold and sell flu shots are trying to convince us that this, THIS is the real deal.

Sorry. No sale. If doctors hadn’t already lost all integrity, they would have held fast to their Hippocratic oath. First, do no harm. In the end, they’re just government workers captured by the pharmaceutical cartel. But their mystique as “white-gowned priests” or shamans still holds power over the great unwashed.

        1. Doctors haven’t taken an oath in decades….it’s such a widespread myth. I have more faith in Engineers who can actually get jailed when they screw up. Doctors just close ranks in their morbidity and mortality conferences and protect each other from consequences from all the people they’ve maimed and killed.

          1. I have more faith in Engineers who can actually get jailed when they screw up

            @RN: Agree with you 100%.

Many years ago, my class was told by a tort litigation specialist that “no lawyer” will want to sue a doctor for malpractice. Why? Because the the medical profession has a LOT more money to hire you to defend against such suits.

            It’s all about the Benjamins.

PS: Just have to add that an old engineer friend used to tell me the story of his old engineer classmate who designed the Calf Robe bridge on the Deerfoot Trail. My friend said he was a womanizing drunk. Not exactly your cliche of a typical engineer. At least not the womanizing bit. Anyway, he wasn’t jailed for anything. But his design has probably been a contributing factor to many fatal crashes over the years. But I will exempt government/public works projects from the idea that engineering screwups get punished.

    2. Surges? The real laugh if it was funny at all, is people like you Ted.
      1. The media hasn’t done a damn thing to protect Canadians in years from boondoggles , to todays pandemic.
      2. They have helped pit people against one another, your shot is your shot and doesn’t do a damn thing for me, all the while I couldn’t careless if you wore a mask, stayed home, or took the shot to get back to normal the same damn normal that got us here.
      3. The most vaccinated countries are having surges, as we will.
      4. The questions that remain: how far is the government going to go to make people comply, and what do the vaxed do when they wind up on the unvaxed list. They will sooner or later. And lets not forget the unvaxed like me may wind up dead getting covid, but the vaxed may wind up the same state due to smart but not that smart.
      5. Purity Ted ? Seems your one fing hypocrite in that regards.
      6. You best bitch at the powers that be , not at your fellow countrymen that should be free to make their own decisions when ruled by incompetent , unaccountable politicians and bureaucrats. Too afraid of letting their ass hang in the wind.

    3. There were no surges. That is an MSM lie and also covers up the real issue.

The “emergency” in Alberta is the frontline healthcare workers quitting in droves.
Kenny, Notley and the AHS managers gave themselves big fat raises. Then told the frontline workers they were getting a reduction in pay and expected to work longer without overtime. (The latter was done by Notley not during the pandemic.)
The AHS edict about vaccination aided more to quit.
Hospitals sent patients home in order to dedicate floors and wards to COVID cases.
The ICU’s are always full. The dedicated wards and floors are almost empty.
Kenny caused a staff shortage and he is covering it up by making us lockdown claiming COVID.
Go to the AHS website. The COVID statistics DO NOT justify any restrictions.

      1. “The ICU’s are always full.”

True, in normal (pre-COVID) times, Alberta ICUs typically ran in ~90-95% capacity range. And currently, they’re at about 88% capacity. So, the surge is all a MSM fabrication, right?

What that simple comparison does not taking into account, though, is that in normal times, AB maintains about 175 ICU beds. They’ve since had to add almost 140 surge capacity beds — an 80% increase — to cope with the increased demand from COVID patients. That’s the only reason they’re at “88% capacity”. Without those extra beds, they’d be at 155% of “normal” capacity.

They’re now putting ICU beds in operating rooms, in post-op recovery suites, etc. These are not “normal” times.

Yes, some staff are quitting, with the recent contract bargaining stuff being the last straw. But many were already leaving due to burnout from the first three waves of COVID. And even without those departures, staffing up an extra 140 surge capacity ICU beds was always going to a challenge.

  15. It’s very unfortunate for all of us that the Covid “pandemic” has become the most important issue in this election. In the long term, there are many issues that will have more effect on our future than the Covid will. A perfect example of herd stupidity.

    1. Justin and his handlers always planned for the election to be all about covid and the Turd’s handling of “the mother of all plagues”.

  16. Oh please. The 4th wave is world wide. Cases do not matter, as we know PCR tests are unreliable and invalid. This will never go away until we take federal and provincial health emergency mandates away!

Vaccine passports are needed for travel to other countries with stupid rules, but we should all complain en masse to our provincial governments about unelected “so-called” health professionals destroying our well-being and livelihood. Complain to the fed gov’t about CERB payments and interference in provincial jurisdiction.

Oh, and ask all levels of governments how receptionists and clerks can actually work from home. Basicially a two-year holiday for many public servants, including highly paid managers who think it is useful to do e-mails and zoom all day.

  17. This is new?Or even news?
For the last 16 months we have been witness to an endless show of incompetence, arrogance, terror and abuse of power.
And now we worry about two so called “Conservative” premiers caving to the pressure?
If you have not noticed by now, there is little hope you ever will.

This “help” from our authorities has done more damage than a real pandemic.
    Understand this .
The cost, financially and societally is enormous.
    We are F.U.B.A.R.
I fail to see how we recover from here.

    The help,must be rewarded.
Such that we do not suffer such help for another lifetime.
We are way past fire them all.
Trials, conviction, followed by dismissal and revocation of all pensions and every penny of the guilty’s assets.
Might serve as adequate warning to future despots.
But a wall and a blindfold are also fitting reward for the appalling idiocy of our current leadership.

    They declared a crisis.
    Announced a Medical Emergency.
And then destroyed civil society and our economy..To save these things.

There will be no return to “normal”,for this Dread Covid Theatre has been a true revelation.
Normal was we assumed our helpers would and could perform in a crisis, rising above their normal mediocracy…

The new normal is somewhat different.
You would trust any of these people to tell you what time it is?

  18. If otoole gets in a lot of westerners will be politically satisfied and go back to enjoying the growth of government and destruction of liberty under a new banner. If Trudeau gets back in with a strengthened ppc in Canada and a growing enragement in the west with Ottawa, the western separatist movement and maybe even canadian conservatism will grow. Either way…hard times ahead.

If you don’t want to split the conservative vote, don’t vote CPC, vote PPC.

  19. Speaking of amateur hour, my wife asked me to locate the name of the conservative candidate in our riding in case the ballot has name only and not party (hint: Akbar – no shit). Being somewhat of a crappy Internet sleuth I googled “Federal candidates Milton”. The top link was to a Toronto Star article (I know – should have kept driving). I was surprised to read they only listed 3 candidates – Liberal first, then NDP, then Green party. They didn’t even bother to list the rest of the candidates. Well, maybe not surprised, but hey, they aren’t even trying anymore.

    1. That’s because the article reported on what was said during an all-candidates debate hosted by the Canadian Federation of University Women’s Milton and District. Only the Liberal, NDP and Green candidates attended; the CPC’s Nadeem Akbar and the PPC’s Shibli Haddad are invited but were no-shows.

  20. This election is about sending enough middle fingers in the air that Ottawa politicians run screaming for the hills because of the fear of pitch forked mobs when they see media jaws on the floor on election night at the number of people who voted for the stump toothed inbred PPC who would ordinarily vote NDP, Liberal or Green.

If enough people see this correctly – that this entire political charade is a ploy to divide them and that if they unite behind one issue as foundational the spell and illusion are broken. Because if this happens, everyone from any political ideology will realize the man behind the curtain is revealed and the whole thing has been Die Hard with Hans Gruber playing Klaus Schwab.

On election day when I cast my vote I’ll silently mutter under my breath: “Yippee ki aaa MF’r”

  21. In this last week before the election I honestly thought it would be a scandal of sorts being revealed, so if this is what they had to resort to it must mean that O’Toole is squeaky clean.

  22. I have in the past ruminated on the problem of trying to elect an actual conservative government.
The crux of the problem is the foundation of Canada is that it was never founded on preserving the nation, it was founded on preserving the government.
Hence, as all efforts are done to preserve the government only those that are of the manor borne or trying hard to get in (aka benefactors of government largess) will prosper albeit at the expense of those working to create wealth who have the odious task of funding the beast through their taxes.
Because this arrangement is ingrained in the system or whatever you wish to call it, those of the beneficiaries will always see someone wanting to curtail of stop the growth of the government will become the enemy of the state.
In the US their tradition is individualism and preserving the nation. Due to our proximity we get a good view of their arrangement and the wealth it creates. It’s allure is great but at the same time seen as a prevailing threat to the folks ensconced in the manor. Hence, when a political movement festers up advocating freedom, liberty and limited government the establishment in Canada turns on it with a vengeance with all the “American style” ad hominem attacks they can muster.
Conservatives thus face an up hill battle until the beast on occasion runs low on capital and then starts eating its own.
    But I digress.
The current situation demonstrates this in spades.
Everyone knows what needs to be done, but there are too many of the beneficiaries in the parts of the country where there is a higher population to eek out enough votes to get the seats to obtain a mandate.
There is really only one way out of this morass.
    Invoke the Peter principle.
Let the damn thing go bankrupt so the manor collapses and they can’t buy allegiance and the beneficiaries lose their meal ticket.
Let them get what they want
    Good
    And
    Hard

  23. All O’Toole has to say is:
“Trudeau called an election in the middle of a pandemic, Kenney has not.”
“So you tell me who is acting irresponsibly”.

  24. Always remember that when public health edicts have exception they are not really for the public health. In BC they have instituted their vax passport, but have excepted fast food restaurants and cafes if their patrons spend 30 min or less at a table. Now that tells me that the covid rules are all pantomime and that the officials who made the rules, and then made the exceptions, don’t really believe their rules can do anything.

I’ll believe there is a health emergency when the people making up the rules act like there is a health emergency. Until then, it is all fear porn to get you to do what they want you to do.

  25. Sorry, don’t buy this narrative at all. The timing was suspicious but the real intention is to switch votes from CPC to Liberal, not PPC. Liberal strategists would be smart enough to know that the PPC has already maxed out its support, 6.7% in the opinion polls for about two weeks now, don’t expect to see the support rise any higher, and the large turnout at advance polls is probably reflecting the fact that PPC support is determined and has already voted.

The narrative is the same one we’ve been hearing all along, and CPC strategists just want somebody to blame because their lame agenda cannot attract more support than Justin Trudeau. That is not the fault of PPC voters or Max Bernier, nobody is stopping the CPC from growing some backbone and reclaiming the territory they deliberately ceded to the PPC before even the 2019 election. Nothing much changed with O’Toole, and he will probably just match Scheer’s performance. Even at 6.7% the PPC will find it difficult to elect even their leader, we are of course hopeful but you need to be around 12-15 per cent unless you have strong concentrations of local support like the Green Party where 4% can yield a couple of seats. (the Bloc of course is a separate calculus, when you see them at 5% in the polls that means 25% in Quebec where one fifth of Canadians live).

So the CPC has set up the narrative that their loss will be the fault of Max and the PPC, I will be keeping an eye on the actual vote counts and how many ridings would be CPC wins with the PPC vote added in — I know that my local riding was one of eight last time out (eight more for the CPC would have made little difference), but the Liberals finished behind both the NDP and Conservatives in the riding, so it was a net gain for the NDP, making no difference to Trudeau’s eventual count.

Having said that I don’t believe that many of the PPC votes would be available to the CPC anyway, so this is just an academic exercise, it could well be that without the PPC in existence, some of their votes would go to the local Libertarian candidate, and others might stay home or spoil their ballots. I would estimate maybe half the PPC vote would actually consider (in the absence of the PPC) a CPC vote. It’s the same argument that the NDP might level at the Greens, but how many Greens do you think would actually vote NDP if they had no Green candidate available? Maybe some would, some would go Liberal. Others might choose an independent.

  26. Good job by Scott Moe! Us progressives like to follow the science and so does Scott Moe. I will still vote NDP (unless Moe will raise the PST again) by am pleasantly surprised that Scott Moe believes in Science.

    1. LOL. Hey Ted is this one of the leftists you want us all to try to understand better through dialogue? I owe creatures like this nothing least of all civility or empathy. Historically illiterate imbeciles like this will clap with glee all the way to the camps but then be astounded that a true believer like itself is getting the axe like the rest.

No doubt this thing thinks christians are dummies but “believes in science” as “science” is some magic all knowing entity instead of a process to discover and discard untruths.

      God help us all.

    2. You mean, the “science” that declares that there are a multitude of genders? The “science” that declares that thing inside an expectant mother is not really human? And how about the “science” that says that white people are genetically racist, or that homosexuality is determined at birth?

      That “science?”

And don’t even get me started on the “science” of AGW!

  27. What’s smart is the CPC brains deciding that for every 2 votes they lose in the West, they’ll gain 1 vote in the East. Given that ridings in the West are higher population than in the East, and that in many Eastern ridings the CPC is not far off from a win, especially if there’s a perfect Liberal-NDP-BQ split, the CPC will win a lot of seats in the east as long as nobody votes for them in the West (-2:1 rule).

    1. It is an interesting analysis. Essentially, where the CPC routinely wins Western ridings with 70% of the vote, losing 20% by pandering to Toronto is no big deal and might lead to pickups. The trouble is that JT is, apparently, 20 points ahead in Toronto. (Yes, they really are that dumb.) And O’Toole’s Bidenesque campaign has stalled in a big way in Ontario and is bleeding out on the Prairies and in the BC Interior.

I would not put too much stock in any of the polling in this election. All our national pollsters have long since sold out to their media and government masters. Most of the poll numbers have been connected. (Leaving the PPC out all together or appending it as an afterthought will ensure the poll numbers stay relatively low.

My own guess is that the PPC will win several seats in several provinces. They will also deny the CPC a majority (which would be great as I have no time for Lib-lite). A hung parliament with a CPC minority and a PPC balance of power is the best I think we can hope for.

  28. Will these latest lockdowns smarten people up? Hell no. Neighbours here at the summer trailer resort were angry that we opened up. One angrily commented that so many more thousands are going to die now. They growled at me for pointing out the obvious. At this moment they are all rushing out to town to go eat in a restaurant before indoor dining is shut down. Me, I am shaking my head. If they are so concerned about COVID and the need to hide in their basements, why the hell are they rushing out to a restaurant? What the hell are they all doing out at the summer trailer resort if they are so concerned.
No, the stupidity will not end and Mao’s modern day Cultural Revolution will come to fruition here.
Stupid people are what allows communists to take over.

  29. Come on, man!
Shitting on actual conservative voters is what the official conservatives do.
On advice from their professional liberal backroom strategists.

  30. Kate, you ABSOLUTELY NAILED IT!

I watched this unfold in horror.

The Conservatives need to rethink what they are doing and who they are, and they desperately need to get far better (understatement of the century) campaign managers.
