  1. Excellent insight from the New York Post article (the first link):

“The old Southern Democrats maintained the allegiance of poor whites by making sure those poor whites felt they could look down on blacks. The modern Democratic Party maintains the allegiance of upper-middle-class whites by making sure they can look down on lower-class whites.”

  2. And now I will watch this show (that I previously did not intend to watch) only to spite the left.

  3. A few years ago we spent the winter in Hawaii. Played golf everyday, one day was paired up with a man from Texas. Had a great time so played many times and got to know him well.

He was a independent oil and gas operator in the Dallas area and also raised Brangus (Brahman/Angus cross) cattle. He was educated at the University of Hawaii on a basketball scholarship. His son got a scholarship (basketball) to Harvard and had the academics to match. He lasted one semester, transferred back to Texas. Non stop harassment because of his accent, upbringing and politics.

Funny story: the father joked that he didn’t celebrate MLK day, he called it James Earl Ray day. Had plenty of black, Hispanic and white employees so I understood it was a joke just as he meant it to be. Not possible to laugh in the “woke” crowd

  4. Well, once again, if you are unwilling to kill your enemies they will kill you. In light of that statement, just how much do you love the liberal/socialist/communist Canadian government?

    1. We are already in banana republic territory so I’m almost resigned to our fate. Western conservatives are doomed by changing demographics (youth are indoctrinated to the left by schools, immigrants lean left) and federal seats favour Liberals so the only slim hope is a viable western split.

Sask, Alberta and northern BC would be capable of going it alone. Difficult but doable but the window is closing, north of 30% support NDP now. One can only dream.

      1. I agree whole heartedly DeeGee,
I travel even now throughout the West , I am from the Middle East ( St. James /Charleswood Area) ,Manitobans tapped out long ago .Bone smoking Communist pedophiles are entrenched in every aspect of government and you can’t start up a business without some Union wanker stirring up shit and killing any idea of making money. Luddites are the order of the day in Sunny Manitoba.
South Eastern BC people are some of the friendliest and hard working folks in Canada along with NEBC and parts of Okanagan but are being infiltrated by retired wanking union/retired teachers and Public service employees who are a pox on society in general anywhere they surface.
        Time is indeed short

  5. Democrats are collectivists so they don’t care what individuals think since they are just a person not an omnipotent state.

They care even less if elected despite everybody now knowing they don’t care what anybody thinks, including deplorables.

That’s where we sit today. Just waiting for Joe to get a mysterious illness and have to step aside for the whole thing to blow up.

Given the election played out as it did, rife with corruption, coercion and censorship, there is actually hope, provided the DeMarxists win big in GA so control it all. Paradoxical? Yes, but we’re talking about DeMarxism.

Then we might see a revival of Isaiah’s biblical commission, allowing people’s blindness and apathy to deal them a lethal blow.

Two years is plenty time for opportunistic technocrats, rent seekers and nouveau riche for the people patriot parasites.

Even then, will the damage be serious enough to warrant at the least the temporary removal of the corrupt collectivists?

It will take a lot of punishment, taxpayers are a durable bunch and quite stiff necked, which was Isaiah’s dilemma.

It is necessary, and economic pain is inevitable with our giant money supplies, debt and coming credit crisis, but these boobs make it harder for everybody but themselves, and even when booted they are never quite set down for good.

We need a giant worldwide shit show that has real consequences for security and prosperity for people to finally wake up.

If that is at all possible, of which I’m unsure given the sheeple jettison their rescuers again and again, Winston Churchill style?

  6. Imagine treating hillbillies as though they were human beings. The left spends a lot effort scapegoating this type of person and Ron Howard just goes and unravels it all. I’ve often wondered if the real reason the left hates Christians is because of the reverence they show for their scapegoat God. The role of a scapegoat in society as any liberal knows is for the cowardly mob to beat up on, but to worship one is something most liberals don’t have the open mindedness to accept.
I don’t think the left could function without someone to hate and persecute .

  7. Let’s analyze this.

These are the parameters, there were, are and will be, rich, middle and poor.
The rich get by one way or another, they can go and live in Burkina Faso if they want.
The burden is always without exception on the middle.
The middle pays the taxes, gets up every morning to go to work and make a living for their families.
They, for the most part, carry the poor, involuntary and voluntary.
The current crop of socialists make the middle feel guilty that they let the rich get away with whatever the socialist think they do and that the middle should pay more since there are not enough rich to supply the need for free stuff.
The curious thing is that the socialists don’t actually make anything, don’t contribute to the society, are not involved in wealth creation, they think that their job is to incite envy, strife, malice of one identity group against another. They can blather on and on and inexplicably somehow make money out of thin air, as it were, always paid by the middle.
In the current era, the rich being afraid of losing their standing, will join the socialists with slogans and memes that tells how concerned they are about the poor and ‘the government’ must do something about it.
Full honor to those that are actually doing something to uplift the poor, there are many of those.
    Yeah, yeah, yeah ….

  8. THANK YOU Kate.
Just added to My List on Netflix.
As pleasesayitsajoke says, I may not have viewed this until I heard that lefty heads are exploding.

My main problem with Netflix is the poor ratio of searching to viewing time. Some daze I spend nearly as much time looking for something to watch than watching.

And don’t get me started on all the cheap and cheesy Turkish and other muslim countries TV series. Obama related?

  9. Who here has read Hillbilly Elegy?

The thesis of the book, as written by a self-hating Scotch-Irish-American “hillbilly” who puts on airs because he went to Yale and writes for National Review, is that the “hillbillies” are solely responsible for all their own problems, which they cause by insisting on being self-reliant, and the sooner they realize there’s no future in being self-reliant, the better.

The Scotch-Irishmen have been the punching bag of America’s urban elites since before the American revolution, regarded as useless as anything but cannon fodder because they refused to work on tobacco plantations free of charge. The African slaves were intended as replacements for the “indentured servants” who kept running away. The elites look down on the blacks. They save their bitterest contempt and hatred for the “hillbillies,” because “hillbillies” refuse to let some rich scumbag tell them what to do.

If you wanted to pick an excuse to make a movie about how the “hillbillies” are America’s misfortune (and not China, Wall Street or even Hollywood), you couldn’t have picked better than Hillbilly Elegy.

That even the CBC laughed AT the final result—not with it (three reviewers on the radio were hooting with derision while trying to discuss it) mostly proof that even liberals have minimum standards when being told what they want to hear, and not everybody meets them even in Hollywood.

    1. For someone who tries to be so erudite and educated, it’s quite humorous to see that you don’t know that the proper term is Scots-Irishmen. Perhaps too much Scotch.

And, spell-check is not an excuse; in fact anyone using spell-check as an excuse is a pretentious wanker. Yes, that was an Oxford comma.

      1. I think everyone understood the reference.
Yes. Read the book. Very interesting, although I did think that grandmother got a bit out of hand. He did very well, but obviously still suffered ftom his peculiar upbringing.

      2. You’re right that “Scots” is the proper form, but that doesn’t make “Scotch” wrong. Sometimes its use is the natural consequence of honest ignorance, but it is also used deliberately as a choice of dialect, as well as naturally, as dialect. As with so many things, it depends on whether you know what you’re doing.

    2. I didn’t read the book … but I DID see the Ron Howard production over the Thanksgiving break with my family. I KNEW I was going to enjoy the movie … because The “expert critics” on Rotten Tomatoes gave it about a 20% positive rating … while the “unwashed viewers” gave it about a 95% rating. I found the film to be very well made, and the multi-timeline flashbacks were logical and easy to follow (a silly criticism of the film).

Essentially … the film depicted my life. Only I grew up a poor white in Northern CA … not the Kentucky hills. I wasn’t a Hillbilly … I was a well-bred white kid raised by adult FAILURES. My father was worthless, despite serving in The Pentagon during WWII. I was raised by my grandmother who was not poor … but had the same acerbic personality, and pushed me like a Tiger Mom (long before the term was coined). My mother remarried a man who insisted she relinquish legal custody of her only two children … because we were … inconvenient. Ironically, my mother was a Scotch-Brit from the backwoods of Missouri … and sorta fit the Hillbilly profile.

No … I wasn’t a Hillbilly. Far from it. And despite garnering the ONLY college degree in my family … I have NEVER adopted an arrogant elitism. My own brother who never went to college was smarter than I ever was. There wasn’t anything he didn’t self-teach himself … far better than most college courses could do. I respect everyone who is “the salt of the earth”. Rich, poor, smart, simple … it doesn’t matter to me. All that matters is one’s spiritual core. The elite DC Lawyer who derided the Author’s “redneck” friends is spiritually DEAD. Those effete snobs know absolutely nothing of what they speak, yet spew their hate with a false authority.

The most important themes of the film (IMHO) are: 1) We are all able to transcend our less than desirable upbringing through self-discipline and hard work. 2) Being poor does not equal being stupid. 3) A white Hillbilly from the sticks has more in common with immigrants coming to this country (Pakistanis included) than do rich white elite snobs. 4) Multi-generational families who stick together are the best incubator for success … despite the obstacles. 5) “White privilege” is a complete JOKE.

Every single one of those themes is anathema to the leftist narrative of white privilege and deplorability

      1. I read the book and it’s great stuff. I was amazed to hear it was controversial.

  10. I read the book. Haven’t seen the show. I was expecting more from the book or something else altogether. A lot of opinion in it.

  11. Let me rephrase Michael Moore’s wish for all the Trump Fans who he believes are dying from the CHICOM plague.

“All The Gays who practice unsafe sex … anonymous sex in bathhouses … barebacking Twinks and Bears … are gonna DIE of AIDS!”

Would fatty Mikey ever DARE to utter such a thing? To “blame the victims” (of Ronald Reagan) … Right? Of course not. But he has no problem blaming the Victims of the CHICOMS. Stupid fathead.

  12. I have read the book. Once when it first came out; the second when I heard the liberal pukes had started shittin’ squealin’ worms over it. It’s only a mediocre book in my opinion. I came out of the poor South. My parents came North to work in the war industries of WW2. My dad built aircraft engines for Pratt and Whitney. My mom made ammunition at Remington Arms. My parents. my brothers and I never looked back. You can’t sit on your ass and improve your quality of life.

I may see the movie, but it’s not high on my list of things to accomplish this winter.

  13. I bought a mint condition hard cover of the book from a $1 box at the flea market. Yes, mediocre, not a very remarkable story if you read a lot of non-fiction, kind of a personal memoire by a nobody.

  15. These people despise education and ambition and live on welfare. There’s a very good reason for normal America to ignore or otherwise look down on them.
