6. Nah. It’s just politics. The virus turned elected officials into benevolent despots. It removed opposition, sober second thought, and debate. It made them more popular. More powerful.

   I call this the ADA-effect. The Americans with Disabilities Act is a well-intentioned, oft-needed, tool to remove physical barriers to non ambulatory, blind, deaf, etc. members of our society. Who can possibly oppose that? Right? It’s all benevolence. Right?

   Well, it’s not. It’s mainly spawned a cottage industry of Lawyers and wheelchair activists rolling into local mop and pop businesses and finding violations to collect the minimum $50k penalty written into the law. And the ADA wasn’t satisfied with a percentage of new multifamily housing units being set-aside as barrier-free units … oh no! The government ordinance mandates that ALL units MUST be made to be convertible to barrier-free. Hence excess floor area and a host of other unnecessary features MUST be included in each and every unit built in America.

   Sorry, but the well-intentioned … benevolent … Law got mangled into a draconian cudgel to bash all who dare trip over its minutiae rules. It was a compassionate idea thoroughly overwrought by activists and government authoritarianism. The one thing always LOST in government’s version of compassion … is Liberty and Freedom. But to the author’s of this Law? Nothing but endless public praise and admiration … because they “did good”. Who can possibly argue against making life easier for handicap people? What? Do you kick puppies too?

   So who can be against helping poor COVID victims who can’t pay their rent? Let’s just make the landowner carry them … then people will love the government officials. Right?

      In NB, I think they actually give them almost $600 a month for nothing beyond being too disabled to work.

      And did you know that the federal and provincial governments even give you a tax break for being disabled?
      You could probably save almost $2000 if you have enough income. When you are too disabled to work.
      Or lucky /smart enough to have disability insurance.
      Shameful freeloaders one and all.
