    It starts with a big mistake: “In 2016, the Democrats held the Presidency and the House.”. The Dems lost the House in 2011. In 2016, the Repubs were controlling the House and the Senate.

  3. Despite being asked several times by Obama to retire, Ginsburg gambled on Hillary becoming President thinking it would make for a nifty capstone on her impressive judicial career. Her mindset was… nominated to the SCOTUS by a Clinton and retire while a woman held the highest office of the land and a Clinton to boot. She rolled the dice and lost bigly.

    Poor thing. I’m sure her aides had to get the paddles out when she learned Trump won.

  8. When the Republicans started yapping about the “Thurmond Rule” in 2016, they set themselves up to for this very problem in 2020. They now cannot insert a new SCJ without looking like enormous hypocrites.

    3. The Republican held Senate…those who matter in these decisions, picked up some extra seats in 2018, in effect giving a little more heft for Trump and his mandate. That said…the key is to have control of the Presidency and the Senate which is kind of a big deal when it comes to considering SCOTUS nominees. Y’know…”Democracy”… “Checks and Balances”, stuff like that.
      The “Thurmond Rule” or “Biden Rule” depending on your political bend of course should be reclassified as “myths”.

      Further – I doubt Republicans need lectures from Democrats about hypocrisy.

    4. The Republicans controlled the Senate and would not have approved Garland so they didn’t even go through the motions. Subtle distinctions are not hypocrisy. Shocking that politics play a role in this, isn’t it?

    2. Republicans hold the Senate 53-47. If those three vote against it is a tie, and then Vice President Mike Pence will cast the tie breaking vote.

    3. You know, what really bugs me is that we assume no Democrat would confirm. Of course, that assumption was true for Kavanaugh. While known far left unqualified lefties like Kagan are routinely confirmed with some Republican support. 4 for Kagan, 9 for Sotomayor. Ginsberg got in with a slam dunk, 96-3.
      Why can Democrats be out and out partisan and not Republicans?
      Why are Republicans expected to nominate “moderates” and denounced for nominating conservatives, while Democrats routinely nominate the farthest left jurist they can find, and if they cannot, someone like Kagan without a single day’s experience on the bench? She doesn’t even believe in the Constitution. She uses EU laws in her arguments.
      I think Romney and Murkowski are hopeless. Collins and Graham have said things that lead one to believe they will confirm, everything else being equal. It will be good if we can get both their votes, and don’t need Pence’s tiebreaker.

    Obama tried just that in 2016 with his Garland pick, but alas, despite his protestations and incantations, Dems were minority in Senate.

    We are seeing another example of milquetoast Republicans, three outliers in the Senate, still thinking they must play fair (by suckers’ rules).
    They are a greater threat to the GOP than the Marxist addled dinosaurs of old rich people guiding transformation to nirvana.

    As the late Justice Ginsburg said herself on this matter regarding POTUS and Senate: “That’s their job. There’s nothing in the Constitution that says the president stops being president in his last year.”

    Oh, but she was only talking about Garland and Democrat nominees? That’s a tough sell.

  16. Democrats, Liberals and RINO’s use the letter of the laws of the land to politic. They twist and manipulate the laws and have no regard for the “spirit” of the law. They are always looking for weasel ways around the laws to impose the breakdown and tearing of the fabric which has been the strength and beauty of a peaceful and respectful society.

    The whining and moaning of the left has been for the demanding of “their” rights to be enshrined and never questioned, for they are the keepers of truth and all things the way they ought to be.
    The left have demanded the breakup of the traditional family, abortion(murder) on demand, the sexual and drug revolution, the elimination of God and all references of Him from the public square.

    They are diligent to place their candidates and judges and officials in seats of power, they are usually compromised and controlled, forced into decisions which are in line with evil.

    Trump has the opportunity to call their bluff, make a choice for the SCOTUS who will be a dynamic and unwavering American Constitutionalist. For the betterment of America and the World.

  18. I see no reason for any other explanation than “It is within the law and the President and the Senate can do so if they wish, so get bent.”

    The Democrats created the new rules, and the new rules are “decency and the opinions of mankind be damned, power is everything.” The people who have fomented and encouraged riots and murders; who excuse the excesses of domestic terrorists no different from the Sturmabteilung and the Red Guards; who conducted the most appalling fabricated character assassinations of Republican SCOTUS nominees; and who launched and for four years sustained a Deep State coup against the elected president of the US, have no credibility when speaking of decency or norms. “The mercy that was quick in us but late, by your own counsel is suppressed and killed. You must not dare FOR SHAME to talk of mercy, for your own reasons turn into your bosoms, as dogs upon their masters, worrying you.”
    Nobody in their right mind wants a president who loses gracefully (apart from the NeverTrump grifters, who are in fact Democrats), because the operative portion of that phrase is “loses”. Trump succeeds because he succeeds. It might not be pretty but it’s victory. Gettysburg and Appomattox weren’t pretty either, but they saved the Union.
    And a quick reality check for the pearl-clutchers: anyone who thinks that Pelosi, Schumer, Obama, and whomever is operating Joe Biden’s remote-control brain implant at the moment would hesitate for one femtosecond to nominate and ram through the confirmation of their own hard-left “living constitution” pro-abortion anti-gun pro-open borders pro-amnesty pro-burn/loot/murder pro-riot pro-surgically mutilating ‘gender-questioning’ four-year-olds neo-Marxist SCOTUS nominee in identical circumstances needs to give their head a shake. This isn’t politics; the Democrats have perverted that process beyond all recognition into something filthier and bloodier than trench warfare.
    Well, so be it. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind, bitches.
