Not only is China failing to keep the revolt in Hong Kong out of the consciousness of the Chinese people, but protests now are taking inspiration from the Hong Kongers. And in the worst possible place: in Guangdong province, which is gargantuan and shares a common language with Hong Kong.

Eventually the army will make it the protesters worst nightmare.
Soldiers are people, too. There will be some who will slaughter unarmed civilians, even their own. But there will also be some who are disgusted by this, and who grow resentful. The regime eventually overreaches, its failures become too much to stomach, and the soldiers and police rejoin their people and turn on the government. I’m not saying in China it’s this time, but it will be someday. There is no living memory among the Chinese of how things were before Communist rule, so while the Party can write the history that is taught in schools and claim to be the cause of everything good in China since, the people will also blame it for everything they don’t like about their lives.
Quite right, Tooner. Things were not simple for the Communist government in 1989 for the Tiananmen Square massacre either. They had to replace the entire army force originally conducting security against the students before moving in to suppress it. You are right I suspect about overreach. There are a number of external signs: 1. the increasing shakiness of China’s fiscal establishment; 2. the large fiscal demands of Belt and Road programs; 3. the problems with China’s food supply.
Tooner and CGH. Just wanted to say that those are very good comments that you have both made. Nothing for me to add other than their banking system is a mess as they continue to make their state run banks make state imposed loans to state run corporations to subsidize their exports with no intention of having the loans paid back. At the same time there is a massive credit crunch on private business with accounts payable of 120 days to never on domestic transactions. The Trump tariffs have resulted in massive relocation of physical capital out of China and into other Asian countries and Mexico and Trump is in no hurry to lift them without getting everything he can out of the duplicitous Chinese who have no intention of holding up their end of any trade agreement. And the suspicion cast towards Chinese high tech goods, drugs, steel and all matter of goods related to them being either well below spec or even maliciously off spec or hostile has gone viral.
China is in a spiral. I suspect their economy is contracting (they will report “slower growth”). I do not see a way out for them that ends well. They have no friends.
Tooner, this is China. Even American soldiers have fired on Americans. The Red Army will in no way be hesitant or remorseful for any such action. Mao killed tens of millions and I doubt that he shed a tear. Attempting to find empathy in their totalitarian system is a waste.
True, but they have a long history of revolutions and mass killings of the ruling class as well. This can go either way.
Yes, they will find units that will massacre protesters, etc. And they will worry about those units that have done it.
It’s a very, very large army. More than big enough to have factions. There will be Generals who will start to think about whether the Party leaders are up to the job of running the country and if they think it necessary they will kill the leaders of the Party for the Party and/or for the country. Totalitarian, as you said, their system cannot tolerate leaders who lose their grip.
(It’s not the Red Army, that was the Russian army in the Soviet era. China’s army is called the People’s Liberation Army, the PLA).
I doubt it.
True believers would kill their own children for the party.
Correct. Just look at the vote in Canada.
Bingo.
The PLA are well fed, so yes. Chairman Xi has an incentive to keep them that way.
Mr. Bloomberg made it clear on Firing Line the deal his exclusive club have with the Chinese: keep China, Inc., profitable for everyone who matters, or the globalists pull the plug, like we did on the Soviet Union eventually.
It is rarely appreciated that globalism is in the interest of no one, other than the Bloombergs of the world. Even the dragon will be put down when his job of destroying Christian civilization is done—with the Han tribe to be replaced, no doubt, by robots who will make far better socialists than Chinamen ever did.
If I was a Chinese system I’d smash anything electronic in my home.
Its a good thing that Canada’s foreign minister was on state television there, praising how China is inclusive and a beacon for a rule based system.
And American businessmen determined to overthrow Donald Trump are convinced that no, China is too profitable to be a dictatorship. China is a cash cow for the globalists, whose service is perfect freedom.
Chi-comm Numba Wun have velly big ploblem. Chi-comm Numba Wun don’t solve velly big ploblem, Chi-comm Numba Wun become no ploblem at all.
In other China is wonderful news, Blackie’s Globe and Mail reports that three senior citizen care homes owned by the Chinese in B.C., are being investigated for poor quality of care.
” – What are they talking about, capitalist running dogs? Our care here is PREMIUM compared to the care our firm gives to our own useless oldies in China – we treat these smelly despicable gwai like CHAIRMEN! Besides, have ironclad contract with you’ government – land is ours, building is ours, we fly all workforce in from Shenzhen, not even pay tax. Nothing you can do, so mind own business!”
With more and more people getting screwed by China’s social credit system China is creating the seeds of uprising. MIllions of unhappy people with nothing left to lose but their organs will take their pound of flesh.
Wonder if canadians are worried that this freedom disease might spread to our shores next?
Canadians for the most part, far too STOOPID, CBC Fed, Braindead and far too in Love with their Diversity Eunuch to do squat. They will continue to Bend over and take up the (_i_)…even as the country crumbles beneath their very feet.
Broken..? I’ll say
#WEXIT
Sorry, Canadian hearts are already pledged.
I pledge allegiance to the Liberal flag of Canada,
And to the Liberal Party , for which it stands,
One country, under thumb, divisible,
With Liberanoness and justus for all.
National Post reports that WeChat which is owned by the Chinese is censoring people in Canada.
Jean Chretien has the Bill of Sale of Kanaduh to China, in his shirt pocket. Ask him. Something about golf balls.
Fox News reports that hundreds of girls in Pakistan have been sold to Chinese men.
Lucky them. Pakistan is a shithole.
One place where there is no consciousness at all of the protests in Hong Kong is the Canada’s own rabble website. There have been no news stories about the protests in Hong Kong since their outbreak You can draw whatever conclusion you want about Canada’s most progressive or should that be regressive voice on the internet.
Interesting, so many people are catching on to the fact that millions of their fellow citizens “Canadians” are stupid, as in dumb as a bag of rocks.
good. fcukin good on them beijing shyts.
p.s. all, ALL the vitriol (and more to come) about ‘chirese’ and such is NOT directed @ Hong Kong.
*they* are a different species altogether from the billion + ‘toe the line’ types.
as we see, despite being under the thumb of brit aristicraps for a century, they tasted and felt a daily dose of FREEDOM.
and want to keep it, to hold beijing to the ‘promises’ and ‘agreements’.
this would have had a completely diff ‘starting position’ in 1997 had said brit aristocraps had nurtured and cultivated a STRONGER and truly democratic tradition. but that HAD TO be sacrificed to the class structure unique to britain.
now look. those blasted HK residents getting all uppity.
If you really want to hurt China and limit the damage they will cause in the future; then stop buying shitt from Walmart. In fact, look at what you are buying every time you make a purchase and look for other options if the product is from China. We have to fix this mess. Besides, everything made in China is basically crap anyway.
totally agree, anecdotal:
had to return a simple doorknob (how long THEY been around?) because the bloody philips scaREW got stripped because the friggin KNOB of the door required I put the screw driver cockeyed into the screw head and it promptly popped off and stripped the philips head.
on top of THAT, the ‘rod’ thingy *inside* the ‘works’ lossened and decided to spin away with the screw !!! wheeee !!!!
junk junk junk junk junk junk junk.
crapola unendingly.
p.s. dear SDA: if you buy ANY electronics made in chirer, DO NOT INSTALL, OR, REMOVE IF ALREADY INSTALLED, THE BATTERIES PROVIDED. they WILL short and spill their guts like the ‘bad old days’and can ruin the gadget. put new, *brand name* batteries in instead.
crap crap crap crap CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP.
I’m amazed that the several million inhabitants of HK haven’t been replaced yet, I figured a month or two of protests tops.
