The Maduro regime is showing an alarming willingness to violently attack opposition leaders, and it’s moving in on high-profile ones who had previously seemed untouchable. They’ve already jailed politician Leopoldo Lopez and driven many others into exile. But the regime’s people have stepped up the thuggery to higher levels since then. They tortured to death a city councilman who was then flung off a ten-story building earlier this month. And they encircled and beat up leading opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, likely signaling intent to kill.

    This is why Bolsonaro won the presidency.

    Because the rest of us have decided that if the New Rules get someone killed, better it be you than us.

    Kindly convey this message to your bosses from Beijing to Bay Street. They need to start making the hard decision of whether they care to fight a war they are guaranteed to lose. We look forward to meeting them on the battlefield.

    While they do that, consider how badly you care to be the last to die defending them.

  10. The only way anyone ever really learns, is through suffering. If you actually want to help Venezuelans, don’t try to protect them from the consequences of their own bad decisions.

    If you do that you are enabling, not helping.

  11. I miss Mark Weisbrot’s submissions to The Guardian defending the Bolivarian Revolution, now become the Bolivarian Diaspora.

    I wonder if Weisbrot has trouble sleeping at night. Probably not. He never showed any intelligence or conscience when he was writing for The Guardian. I doubt that he’s developed such things since.

    The way the Canadian ‘ists are going it may take another 10-15 years though it will happen.
    One can understand that you will not believe such a horrible thing can.
    Those that lived through it in the middle of 20th century could not believe either.
