This is not the melting we were promised;
The surprises began almost as soon as a camera was lowered into the first borehole, around December 1. The undersides of ice shelves are usually smooth due to gradual melting. But as the camera passed through the bottom of the hole, it showed the underside of the ice adorned with a glittering layer of flat ice crystals–like a jumble of snowflakes–evidence that in this particular place, sea water is actually freezing onto the base of the ice instead of melting it.
“It blew our minds,” says Christina Hulbe, a glaciologist from the University of Otago in New Zealand, who co-led the expedition. The Ross Ice Shelf is considered more stable, at present, than many of West Antarctica’s other floating shelves–and this observation could help explain that: if a few inches of sea water periodically freezes onto the bottom of its ice, this could buffer it from thinning more rapidly.
I just wanted to remind my fellow SDA’ers of the reality that the hardcore Global Warming brainwashing of the western world isn’t even slowing down. This ‘battle of realities’ is faaaarr from over.

I suspect that if Trump stood up tomorrow and announced that he now believed global warming was indeed a great threat, the entire leftist infrastructure, including mainstream media, would immediately shift gears and challenge him with claims that, gee what do you know, it was a fraud after all.
And that’s happening in December, which is summer in Antarctica. Her mind would really get blown if she checked again in June.
Speaking of basic science, the 2 guys at work believe that Trump is going to get nailed for money laundering for the Russians. That is apparently what Mueller is going to get Trump for. I am quit certain, that when the investigation wraps, and Trump is still president, a new guaranteed thing will become the albatross around Trump’s neck.
Even an organization such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (which I joined over 40 years ago) has jumped on the bandwagon. I’ve been receiving e-mail messages urging me to support “evidence-based science”, whatever that’s supposed to mean.
Of course, the AAAS didn’t say peep when Algore was busy peddling his herpetological lubricant or when O’Bummer was in office. Coincidence?

I agree. In fact I think the world’s biggest fraud ever is advancing into almost every facet of our society. Witness the proliferation of very visible wind towers everywhere. Lysenko would be ecstatic. Governments and some companies have hit the cash mother lode and have enough momentum to smash anyone in their way.

I can predict the response from catastrophic global warming alarmists:
1) those bozo researchers don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground (ice?). They’ll be hounded to retract and repent or face the wrath of the climate change clergy.
2) the data will be “adjusted” to conform to the catastrophic global warming hypothesis somewhere down the road, preferably right before a crucial international climate summit and/or before the next IPCC report.
3) they will use the tired, old “all warming is due to manmade CO2, everything else is natural variability”.
Regardless, it is alway “Worse Than Ever!”. There’s no good news allowed in the catastrophic climate change movement. Skeptics and lukewarmers who say otherwise are evil.

The sad state of National Geographic is so pathetic it makes me cry. It is such an agenda-driven organization that it deserves to be completely ignored. I read every word of this article on the “disappearing … stressed” Polar Bears and LOL. The unique, groundbreaking and shocking “study” Nat Geo cited involved tracking 9 female bears for a total of 11 days. AYFKM? And the results! “Bears aren’t good walkers” … but one of their females walked 125 miles. And another “shocking” discovery … Polar Bears expend huge amounts of calories … even at rest … in the FREEZING COLD Arctic! That bears can eat 200lbs of seal meat/blubber in one feeding! And that out of their 9-bear study … some … of the Bears didn’t even catch a single seal (without revealing how often the Bears actually NEED to feed, for survival).
The cited Polar Bear study was USED to foment FEAR over Global Warming. USING cute cuddly (white) Bears as a “hook” for the heartstrings. But it is scientific malpractice. The “study” proved no such thing. It appears to depend upon illiterate, short attention span “readers” of pictures … not content … to foment FEAR over Global Warming. We’re doomed … because the vast majority of people can’t read and interpret the content of these nonsensical articles … but just see the headlines claiming Global Warming is decimating Polar Bears …. ohhhhhhh mammmma
In science, if natural phenomena don’t correspond with your theory’s predictions, your theory is wrong. In climate “science” if the phenomena disagree with your theory it’s nature that’s wrong.
Ice getting thicker prevents it getting thinner. That’s why they get the big grant money. A simple law of the universe elegantly put.

That means the evidence is on the Skeptics’ side. I can support that.
Many AAAS members are academics. I’m sure a lot of them are like my Ph. D. supervisor. He told me one day that he didn’t care what he investigated so long as someone else would cough up the money to pay for it.
I suspect that “global warming” or “climate change” or whatever it’ll be called tomorrow is popular because that’s where the funding is.
