  2. It’s amusing in an “arm the farm” sort of way that when private companies agree to fix a price between competitors, the gov’t steps in to do something about it.
    While all the other supply regulated food producers in Canada, the milk, the egg marketing boards, are all legislated into being by the same gov’t, and deemed as necessary.

  6. Bread is pretty cheap. If they fixed the price they did a really crappy job. I don’t believe the price of bread was fixed. However, the price of gasoline is totally fixed.

  7. Nah … rising prices are simply the result of falling demand … you know … in DIRECT CONFLICT with FREE market behavior. Since everyone is on a gluten-free, low-carb, Paleo diet … very little bread is being consumed per capita as compared to 25 years ago. So what’s a bread company to do … hey! How about Price Fixing?! Perfect! Jack up the prices to offset flagging demand.
    BTW … I have to PAY $4.99 per loaf! of my favorite bread … https://www.walmart.com/ip/Eureka-Grainiac-Organic-Bread-18-oz/40890115 Yeah, Yeah … I know … I’m getting $$ RAPED because I buy “organic” bread … it can’t be helped … this is about the most polar opposite to WONDER Bread (the American equivalent to Bimbo) as I can find. Talk about price fixing! And every supermarket sells it at the EXACT same price … Watts Up With That !? Where’s the “competition” for my granite dollars. I remember when a loaf of bread was aboot $0.59 !
    What is it with these Leftist politicians who manipulate prices of ESSENTIAL commodities to economically CRUSH the people? Energy Poverty … increasing Water Rates … increasing Tolls and Auto Fees … Increasing Mass Transit Ticket prices … and now manipulating the INCREASE of basic foodstuffs. Leftist politicians want to WIPE YOU OUT. They DO really, really HATE you. They DETEST you. LOATHE you … and want YOU … GONE. DEADT. FINISHED.
    Yet the people … keep voting for their own demise. I PRAY for the Canadian VOTERS come to their senses … and REAP the HARVEST of a PM like Donald Trump. He is our Little Red Hen. Excuse, but isn’t 10 billion a year not enough. Why do these bleeding heart liberal politicians think they are going to solve the problem without the natives being accountable. When will it end.

  11. Speaking of business. I was just getting a glass of water from the lunchroom at work and we have a big tv on all the time, usually set to the local ctv station. They were talking stock markets and comparing poor performance of the tsx compared to the dow. It seems there are 106 stock markets globally, and we are number 102 ytd performance, just behind Botswana. They didn’t say but I imagine the likes of Zimbabwe and Venezuela are the sort of country doing worse than Trudeaupia.

  18. The federal government is just loafing in this investigation. The yeast they can do is to be self-rising and get through the crust of this price fixing. We knead them to find proof and bake the culprits. Proof that multi-grain is our strength, proof that diversity will eventually flour and shower us with lightness (he said, rye-ly). You can take my words with a grain of salt . . . and a bit of butter . . . . and some warm water.

  23. I make my own. Once a week, two 2 lb loves. Costs about $0.70 a loaf. That’s everything, including the kWh to bake them. Slice it & freeze it. Your kid could make it, it’s that easy. Make the dough a day ahead, store it in the fridge. The kid might learn something useful.
    No knead dough, too. Flour, yeast, salt, water. Some caraway for rye. No bread pans either, just a baking steel. Mine’s a Lodge 14″ cast iron pizza pan. Form a loaf or two, slide them in, 30 minutes later two nice big Artisan loaves. Better than anything you buy from President’s Choice, Safeway or Walmart.

    We get ripped off for much more than that filling up at the pump, where the price is exactly the same, at all 50 stations right across town. But hey, thats just a co-inkydink…….
    In the states, stations across the street from each other, have different prices, most stations have unique prices. In Canaduh, its a real cozy collusion.

  32. So do I. In fact, until I had to start settling my father’s estate at his house, I never bought a loaf of bread for more than 35 years. That was because I didn’t have time to bake any there.
    Now that things have settled somewhat, I’ve started baking bread at the house. What I don’t eat while I’m there, I freeze until my next trip. I still haven’t figured out the oven, though, because I’m not sure it’s working properly, but I might eventually get the hang of it.

    There doesn’t have to be a real underlying DISEASE of any kind. People just have to “believe” there is a Pandemic, line up and get injected and then masses of people die.

    Stampede people to line up, get the injection, and then have the bots clean up the corpses.
    The H1N1 virus 2 stage shot episode was a TEST run by western governments to see what level of compliance could be expected.
    (it was important the inoculation be 2 stage for the test, 2 stage compliance was ~21% in North America)…LOL

  38. Yeah. Been baking our own for quite a while,(20yrs) although we don’t eat much bread anymore.
    Leftover bread is great for making dressing or for coating chicken/pork.
    When we do eat bread it’s always a special occasion. Baking bread is easy. We make our own pizza dough.
    We’re getting old and don’t eat much pizza either, but we do have some great recipes and don’t particularly like outside cooking, just our own.
    Hate food that uses canola or rape seed oil. Not fit for human consumption.
    Only eat olive oil or butter or peanut/sesame oil or rendered pork/schmaltz/tallow fat.
    Always have a jar of bacon fat in the kitchen. Bacon fat is good for salad dressing or baked johnny cake or eggs.

  39. yapping about bread prices when gas is a 1.29 a litre while oil is 65 dollars a barrel. the last time gas was a 1.29 a litre, oil was 147.00 a barrel. no collusion there right folks, right? how about 5.81 cents a gallon, no, doesn’t wake anyone up. oh well stupid is very difficult to overcome.
