  1. Most Canadians Support A Gun Ban In Urban Areas: Poll
Support was highest in Quebec and lowest in Alberta.
OTTAWA — The vast majority of Canadians favours a total ban on guns
in urban areas, a new poll suggests.
According to the poll, conducted by Ekos Research Associates for The
Canadian Press, 69 per cent of those surveyed agreed with the statement
“I think that there should be a strict ban on guns in urban areas.”

So Liberal virtue signalling is to inspire their supporters to dream of a real future ban within a generation.

“Yet the mind-boggling goals of the German superproject and even Stalin’s Great Plan pale in comparison to the biggest engineering undertaking of our age: the Paris Climate Agreement.
With a 195 signatories the goal of the agreement is nothing less than the modification of the weather system of the entire planet, a much bigger deal than simply damming up the Straits of Gibraltar. It sails serenely on. Most political leaders have signed on to the accord on the same basis that Philippine health authorities agreed to Dengvaxia: rational ignorance. Presidents and prime ministers, incapable of independently judging the technological soundness of the Paris Agreement, must rely instead scientific consensus that it’s good.”

The Switch to Outdoor LED Lighting Has Completely Backfired
To reduce energy consumption, many jurisdictions around the world are transitioning to outdoor LED lighting. But as new research shows, this solid-state solution hasn’t yielded the expected energy savings, and potentially worse, it’s resulted in more light pollution than ever before.

  5. WHY JAMES MADISON HATED DEMOCRACY
According to this theory, Madison was a trickster. He equated democracy not with mob rule, as such, but with states rights; he wanted, instead, a centralized federal government, now affectionately referred to as THE SWAMP. The piece also helped clarify the reversal in the terms federalists and anti-federalists and reinforces the notion that the constitutional convention of 1789 was in actuality a COUP.

  8. Hopelessly biased column.
LEDs are somewhat overdone – certainly the economics of replacing hps units early is silly. But the engineering is quickly getting better both in terms of wavelength (warmer) and cut off – excellent compared to older lighting. Done right – and they are being done right more and more often – they save $, are more comfortable and less polluting than traditional lighting. And the cost is plummeting.

  10. “I think that there should be a strict ban on guns in urban areas.”
Pretty well all the shootings in the Ottawa area are the result of gangs using illegal handguns.
Please explain how “a strict ban on guns in urban areas” would mitigate these shootings.

  11. James Madison hated democracy?? Who knew? I laughed, I cried. Another attempt to change history. Totally without context and background of the times and events. Lacking these two things, it makes perfect sense though … perfect sense.
Thank God for Madison. He saved the country …. he made the country.

    Let’s try this instead:
Lying to the FBI (investigation) is a crime even if there is no criminal event underlying the lie.
Which brings me to the real point. Why did Flynn lie when there is nothing criminal about what he did? Something is missing here.

  19. Done right?
Tell that to the City of Edmonton. They have replaced a lot of our street lighting lately with LED and streets seem to be getting darker. But there is also a push to reduce speed limits so who needs good lighting if you can’t go faster than 40kmh.

  20. In addition, LEDs produce a lot of radio frequency interference. It’s bad enough that it makes it difficult for me to operate my ham station because of the background noise, but the RFI is across a large portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.
I found that there’s no point in complaining to the federal government about that. The inspectors are more concerned with interference with government, military, and commercial communications to worry about how RFI might affect private citizens.

  21. It’s a mishmash right now. And knowing Epcor they have rushed things.
Darkness in areas not the area that you wish to be lit is excellent with many of the new leds with really sharp cut offs. This is a very good thing. HPS were terrible for that.

“I once wrote an article for a small but distinguished literary magazine that a rock ‘concert’ is like a fascist rally of libertinism, no doubt a strong way of putting it; the editor of the magazine was perfectly willing to print it, but said that he faced a revolt among his predominantly young staff. They said that they would resign en masse if he did so, and therefore he felt obliged to omit it.
Clearly, I had touched a raw nerve, rather as if I had attacked the character of Mohammed in Pakistan.
The young people—educated young people, of course—must have felt that their very identity was under attack for them to react in this way, which they had never done before, not on any other subject. And yet the eagerness of young people to abandon their individuality at rock ‘concerts’ by uniting themselves in an hysterical quasi-communion with thousands of others, making gestures not very different from fascist salutes in response to a carefully staged event, brings Nuremberg inevitably to mind—or to my mind at least.
I have always detested (and feared) such manifestations of individual submission to mass conduct, whether it be in football crowds, political rallies, prayers in unison or rock concerts. It is the voluntary abrogation of human freedom and therefore of responsibility; it is the beginning, though not the end, of brutality.”
