  1. Sowell is a giant. My respect for him began in reading his Basic Economics. I suppose, at 86, he’s got every right to slow his pace. I just wish we had more academics of his stature and his clarity.

  2. I have read Dr. Sowell for many years and always wondered why a man such a he was not held up as an example for black American children, instead of gang bangers, and spoiled sports figures.

  3. Sowell is one of great thinkers of our time.
If he was a socialist, he would be famous the world over.
Being a realist, he is mostly known to those who are interested in the affairs of the world.
Read his columns, watch interviews on the YouTube.
    Very sharp mind.
Sowell will write more books, no doubt.

  4. “We cannot return to the past, even if we wanted to, but let us hope that we can learn something from the past to make for a better present and future.”
Would that more people respected that ideal.

  5. I have some of his books and he is a giant in my mind for his clear thinking and common sense. He will be sorely missed.

  6. All of the above.
The leaders of our western societies need to listen to men like this but rather mislead the people and follow a free bread and circuses course that leads to further degeneration.

  7. Dr. Sowell’s book “Basic Economics” is a classic. Everyone should read it. He’s a great teacher and explains things in a way that makes complex issues easier to understand. Thanks, Dr. Sowell, and God bless.

  8. Thomas Sowell- 3 questions you should ask of every policy proposal and practice:
    1. Compared to what?
    2. At what cost?
    3. What hard evidence do you have?
    (memorize and apply 🙂

  9. It’s like losing an old friend, one whose thoughts were crystal clear. On the plus side, much of his work is timeless.

  10. The left is rejoicing at Sowell’s retirement … because there is NOTHING more dangerous to their false narrative than a smart, conservative, black man. Enjoy your retirement years Thomas! You’ve EARNED more than your “fair share” of rest and relaxation. Unlike our outgoing president who has spent 8 years of R&R in the prime of his “working” years.

  11. Though (or because) he lived in N.Y. as a child, he knew the difference between first world problems and third world problems. I’ve got a bunch of his books in the basement, it’s probably time to read Basic Economics again.
