  8. On Tuesday afternoon (Nov 15), a colleague and I made presentations at the fall convention of the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC). Our presentations were about the Alberta Climate Plan and the false claims (health and enviro benefits) made by the NDP govt. We also addressed the pathetic (low and erratic) performance of wind power and that the government’s plans MIGHT reduce CO2 by 1% or 2%, if at all, at a cost of about $20 BILLION … or much more.
    We spoke to reeves, councillors and CEOs from across Alberta. Interest and response to our talks was good. These municipal politicians are not happy as was evident in the Q&A after our talks.
    On Thursday, Premier Notley and Deputy Premier (Hoffman) addressed the AAMDC delegates.

    Several people said after our talks, “You confirmed our suspicions about benefits (lack of) of the Climate Leadership Plan and about the government’s false health claims.” Perhaps the technical and statistical information we presented gave delegates confidence to challenge the minsters today. If so, I am most pleased. In any case, I am pleased about the reception these political delegates gave Notley and Hoffman.

    The RCMP is lobbying the Prime Minister’s Office for new powers to bypass digital roadblocks in cases where national security threats and other “high priority” suspects hide online and operate anonymously beyond the reach of police.
    “I can safely say that there’s criminal activity going on every day that’s facilitated by technology that we aren’t acting on,” RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson told CBC News and the Toronto Star in an exclusive interview.
    The problem is a major focus for Paulson, and one that only gets more urgent as technology advances and suspects find new ways to cover their digital tracks.
    “Because of our inability — and the future inability — to protect Canadians, both from garden variety criminality and from the national security threat, I see that as really significant,” Paulson said. “I’m consumed with trying to make sure that we’re able to mitigate the threat.”
    But privacy advocates and civil liberties groups remain unconvinced that effort requires expanded investigative powers for police.

  20. I’m pissed off, royally pissed off!! I always believed that Canada’s official bird was the common loon. It’s on our dollar coin! What sweeter sound can be heard than the song of the loon on a quiet Saskatchewan lake, just before sunset.
    Who in hell is the Royal Canadian Geographical Society to be making official decisions for this country?? Who are these people anyway?? Retired CBC types?? Ex-Liberals who have found solace in some Toronto office building and who get their kicks out of bullying the rest of Canada? Who’s leftist ass did they have have to kiss to have the ”whiskey jack” or ”Canadian Jay” named as our official bird??
    Same F*%?ing story as Pearson and his flag (1965) that was a photocopy of the logo of the Liberal Party of Canada at the time they shoved it down our throats. Most of us in Saskatchewan agreed that out of respect for our British, American and French ancestors, there should have been blue bars on it somewhere! Instead they displayed the leaf of the sugar maple (Acer saccharum)knowing that they don’t grow west of Manitoba!
    The Royal Canadian Geographical Society is supposed to be a non-profit organization under the patronage of the Governor General! Should that society not be fair to all Canadians?? Just look at the map that’s enclosed with the link I’ve provided! And where do find this Liberal bird?? Everywhere in Canada except Southern Alberta, Southern Saskatchewan, and Southern Manitoba!
