Donald Trump says no more immigration until we know what’s going on. Wonder what there will be when he does know (I suspect he already does, but maybe not).
In Canada, we probably still have some time to avoid this problem on a European scale. It’s not necessarily a problem that exists at equal levels from every country of origin. A careful study of the demographics of the European countries faring the worst will help us plan this better. I think many of us could give a fairly accurate summary but that would no doubt get us all invited to court to explain further (and I am out of patience with that approach myself, when you do explain they just get madder because they expected you would have no explanation).
It could be that more by luck than good planning, we have not bought into the worst set of problems possible and this might give us some guidance too. Not everyone from a certain part of the world is equally prone to anti-social behaviour. But I think we need to have a frank national discussion about this, calling it racist to investigate the details of such questions is simply slow-motion cultural suicide. Of course we should investigate and then we should act on what we find. The truth shall keep us free.
There’s no harm in trying to influence some of the countries in question from the outside to get change to happen, but expecting that their citizens will change en masse just because they catch a glimpse of a Tim Horton’s is rather naive to say the least.
