Perhaps I’ve been inoculated against political news coverage.
Perhaps I’ve just gotten older and, thus, wiser and can ID BS when I see it.
Or maybe my most recent book made me even more disdainful of what the commoners consume.
But as I watched Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer cover the recent kerfuffle between Trump and Cruz, Hillary and Bernie, not to mention their representative mouth pieces, my mouth dropped not because of what they were saying, but because all of them:
The politicians
The spokespersons
The interviewees and
The CNN staff
treat you people like genuine f*cking idiots.

Nailed it.
Hey Cap…have you watched our ‘beloved’ CBC and CTV?
The lo informed voters soak up the purple piffle.
Same goes for CBC and the Libs. They think we are stupid. I am still recovering from the “Justin Show” nonsense on Sunday — a silly PR stunt that any intelligent person could quickly see through. Anyone else getting tired of Justin’s perpetual preening for the cameras? How could any reasonable person dump a thoughtful, intelligent Prime Minister for the inept Liberals and their faux leader who think governing is about catering to special interest groups — unions, Muslims, natives, Quebecers . . . on and on. So Sad.
CBC free since Oct. 19, 2015!
Try it …you’ll like it!
Paraphrasing the Captain: “The average American idiot is so stupid and so ignorant that they don’t realize how insulting and degrading this political news coverage is to them.”
This is a joke, right?
Whatever, gotta thank you Cap’n, since I first encountered your IQ suppositions they have become a factor in my day-to-day analyses of reality, it’s been a bit of a comfort and a stress-easer, I really do thank you.
Liberal voters have proven that they are stupid, look what happened in Ontario over the last 10 years, yet liberals get voted in again, and again, and to add insult to injury they elect a drama queen to run the country.
Think about a person you know with average intelligence. That’s 100 IQ. Now, by definition, half the people in the world are dumber that that.
Their votes count just as much as yours. And yet some of y’all wonder why we beg for Christ’s judgment to come.
*
“treat you people like genuine f*cking idiots.”
you mean the same people who elected a dope-smokin’ trust-fund millionaire & ex-snowboard instructor to the highest office in the land?
here’s an experiment… take a half dozen accounts of the same news story and add up the discrepancies and outright lies.
“All that said, I’ve actually learned something here… apparently posting homebrew rap music videos to Youtube from your Mom’s livingroom qualifies anyone and their homies to be the next “Suge Lite.” Word, bro.”

I hope he was standing and talking back at the TV like I used to.
We cut the cable 4 months ago. I turn anything to do with our retarded frisbee coach within seconds of hearing his name it’s so barf inducing.
One quarter of our population can recite “Harper Dictator” when you wave a dead mackeral in their face though.
So disheartening.
Full retard.

Actually, I am not sure IQ alone is the significant factor involved in having good political judgment. In fact, many with lower IQ’s (assuming that is even a reasonable concept)pay attention, exercise good judgment and know when the wool is being pulled over their eyes. It is the intellectual elites who allow their egos to obscure good judgment. Among Canada’s journalists, writers, academics and civil servants are many, many fools. Their “judgments” often stem directly from their fragile egos.
You may have heard that the issue with lead in the water in Flint has come across the border into Canada and there have been reports that many areas in Canada have a similar problem with lead…..which lowers IQ. I propose the easiest way to find those spots would be to simply look at those ridings that have a high percentage of NDP, Green or Liberal voters and focus on them. The correlation would likely be very strong.
Yo cappy, it ain’t just the dumb folks on the left bee leavin’ nonsense. There are many on the right who are just as qualuded.
They are sayin’ the ruskies are aggressive when they seek to secure their access to vital strategic assets…Crimea, Tartus for instance.
Do you believe your country would react any differently to the loss of say the Panama Canal (remember that one)? Perhaps Okinawa?
Since the ruskies only have TWO foreign installations, and both are put under threat at the exact same time…how would you anticipate them to react.
Since the cost of a major blunder by the brinksmanship gang vis a vis Russia is thermonuclear war how should peons react, when the same gang that brought the “success” of the former Yugoslavia, Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan continues to lead the way? Qui Bono my friend? Qui Bono?
The “elites” do treat people like idiots. It has ticked me off for years because, to paraphrase Orwell, some ideas are so stupid only Progressive Liberals could believe them.
The “elites” tell the sheep that they are smart, sophisticated, wonderful humans for listening to the “elites” and simultaneously attack dissenters as stupid/evil/racist/homophobic/etc. Pick any progressive slur of the day.
This keeps the sheep in the proper pen, even though they are simply being fattened for the slaughter.
I wouldn’t mind so much if it didn’t place everyone else in jeopardy as well.
Cappy,
You think your politicians and press are idiots … check out our trust fund twit.

Do cite the time/era when this was not the case.
Twas ever thus.
Sometimes I feel like I’m in a zombie movie. Reading the transcript of much of Obama’s apology tour at a Baltimore mosque makes me want to run for the hills. “Muslims make us safe” he said.
Then childhood friends, university friends and the young people I meet seem to all be into mysticism and the weirdest spiritual and intellectual journeys.
They scare me with their earnest
knownothingness.
Watched The Martian last night and was uplifted by the sight of the splendid technology that makes so much possible. But the movie was undercut by the unlikely high percentage of women and minorities as astronauts and NASA top achievers. Political correctness strikes again.
Surprise News: People are stupid! Just discovered this did you captain. Never been fooled or lied to. What is amazing to me that some people are just discovering that people are stupid.
The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity, by Carlo M. Cipolla .
says it all really.
IQ,intelligence tests and clubs of self styled intellectuals are self preening.
Best measure we have of actual intelligent behaviour is long life and money.
Some of the very brightest people I ever knew where alcoholics and druggies, self meditating against the dross. Very high “IQ”, very dead.
Human nature has not varied much for centuries,we go with the mob, until uncomfortable.
When frightened we mob up and annihilate the identified threat.
Power over the mob has been that fine art of maintaining the fear and focussing the hate.
Those who do this have become our elites.
However, the diffusion of information, hubris at the power centres and boredom with same old fears, are causing our elites to be identified as that threat.
Seems most everything in nature cycles, mankind is part of nature.
No matter what the eco-Nastie believe.
This is the trouble of working the mob, works great when your act is fresh and convincing.
Identifies you as the evil, when the act gets old.
Parasites now endanger the host, we have too many “helpers” who take all of their sustenance from us and provide zero benefit to us.
The trust ran out,the money runs out and the parasites need somewhere to run to.
Gated communities will not be enough.
dear Cap’n, by ‘bike’ from your description I take it you’re talking bicycle? if so yeeeHAAAA.
pls be informed one and all, I do. not. own. a. motor. vehicle.
I’m retired. I bicycle everywhere all year ’round.
because of that, I recently shoved > 1200 pounds up on the leg press machine @ the local gymnasium much to the astonishment of those in the room.
I also have a ‘knack’ for pistol shooting, parachuted from a Cessna once just to see what it was like, and did a stint in the reserve prior to joining the work force.
I’m ready for a host of contingencies.
don’t f**k with that laid back grey haired dude, he’s a LOT tougher that appearances.
plaque on my office wall:
“I’m a pacifist with emphasis on the FIST part for those who misinterpret my true nature and capabilities”
God Bless the United States Constitution. let me throw that in while I’m at it.
“We’re not decadent, but our children will be.”
Richfisher, if you watch this again you will see Joe Clark enjoying himself listening to this musical abortion. Not surprising that he is there with the rest of the milquetoasts.
Yes, many people are stupid or are just plain tuned out to what is happening around them and how the elites are hoodwinking them through the media. After all, they elected Obama twice in the US. They elected McGuinty in Ontario and then followed that up by electing an even bigger crook, Wynne. The people of Alberta were so ticked at the liberal Progressive Conservatives that they elected a Marxist. Then, to top it off, Canadians elected a failed drama teacher whose only real talent is taking selfies and being a puppet for George Soros and who has a wife that sings worse than the collie we just gave away.
hmmm. motorcycle. that’s good too. still got my GM license from early 70s.
ciao all. keep on posting.
taking a brief time out, tq for politely listening unlike the styrofoam-for-brains swirling masses.
p.s. I love the stinging phraseology you folks employ. it comes from educated analytical minds with a topping of made-in-Canada humour based as always on truth.
Of course, like Amy Schumer stand up or a Will Ferrell comedy, this wouldn’t sell if there wasn’t demand for it.
I don’t think that’s true. CNN’s ratings have been abysmal for years. The rest of the MSM’s isn’t much better. These organizations’ political coverage isn’t about ratings, it’s about propaganda.
“…by definition, half the people in the world are dumber …”
No. That’s not how averages work. Consider a sample size of four persons. If on some scale measuring something about them, one scores 100 and each of the other three scores 10, the total score is 130, the group’s average score is 32.5 and more than half of the sample group scored below average. If one scored 10 and the other three each scored 100, the total score is 310, the group’s average score is 77.5 and more than half of the group scored above average.
It is not the definition of average that half of those measured are below average.
American politics:
“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.”
— George Carlin
“Of course, like Amy Schumer stand up or a Will Ferrell comedy, this wouldn’t sell if there wasn’t demand for it. And so the real culprit is not the politicians, the media, or the spokespeople. It’s the average American idiot who is so stupid, so ignorant, they don’t realize how insulting and degrading this political news coverage is to them. And so once again, I have to let go, not bother watching this slop, wait for it to get above 60 degrees here in Phoenix, hop on the motorcycle, and enjoy that decline!” Yes.
There are many definitions for “average”. Sean’s usage indicates he means “median”, your usage is “arithmetic mean”. There’s also a geometric mean and a mode. In your example the median and mode are both 10. The geometric mean is 17.78.
When talking about very large populations in a Gaussian distribution, then the arithmetic mean, median, and mode all tend to converge.

“They are sayin’ the ruskies are aggressive when they seek to secure their access to vital strategic assets…Crimea, Tartus for instance.”
I agree with you regarding Tartus, but Crimea is a lie.
On April 27, 2010, Russia and Ukraine ratified the Russian Ukrainian Naval Base for Gas treaty, extending the Russian Navy’s lease of Crimean facilities for 25 years after 2017 (through 2042) with an option to prolong the lease in 5-year extensions.
Give me a link to a non-Russian or non-Russian-client state source showing that the new Ukrainian government said or did anything to break their treaty with Russia which would have prevented Russia from continuing to peacefully maintain their naval base at Sebastopol.
here is piece from well known lefty rag foreign affairs those damn socialist cfr guys eh?

I wuz just going to call the idiot an idiot
YM – to your point, when I was 30 I had an adult/political epiphany that allowed me to develop the mantra “people are basically stupid”. I stand by that today. I’ll be 57 this summer.
I’ve been CBC free for my entire adult life and it’s fantastic. However, every now and again I enter a room somewhere and the CBC is on the radio and I can’t avoid it. My blood pressure spikes and I simply have to shut it off… it doesn’t matter if where I am or who owns the radio. Just tonight I had dinner with my parents and I walked in to: ‘Canadians are talking more and more about missing and murdered aboriginal women.’ Click.
from your link:
“For Putin, the time to act against Ukraine and the West had arrived. Shortly after February 22, he ordered Russian forces to take Crimea from Ukraine, and soon after that, he incorporated it into Russia.”
Yeah. That is what happened. Despite all of the Russia apologists here(yourself included) going along with the “Russia is not involved” LIE.
But WHY did Russia invade, despite Ukraine not breaking the Treaty?
Simply because Georgia and Ukraine chose to follow their own course, Russia made WAR on them.
And if you’re good with that, peter, you’re a scumbag.
I asked you to show me where Ukraine had violated the treaty with Russia to justify Russian invasion for the strategic reasons that you originally stated.
This article that you linked to demonstrates that Russia’s strategic reasons are the reasoning of an aggressor!
Russia already had a treaty guaranteeing access to the port at Sebastopol!
You use an article about free choice by the peoples of Georgia and Ukraine being the provocation Russia used, as if Russia had any right to override the choices of now sovereign independent nations, especially after the brutality and rapacity that Russia had visited upon the people of these nations in the 20th century.
You really are a piece of work, peter.
I am very disappointed to see your use of language here. I had thought better of you. You conveniently ignore the $5 billion dollar multi-year coup engineered by the US (the gist of the fp piece). There is absolutely no question that as a NATO member (the whole purpose of the coup) Ukraine would not be renting the Russians a naval base. If you fail to grasp that point, there is no point discussing this further.
When your allies are neo-nazis in Ukraine and head choppers in Syria and Libya what are states threatened by your overt actions supposed to do, roll over on command? IF we have a future, sober people will look back on the whole Ukraine mess as when the “hidden government” jumped the shark.
“You conveniently ignore the $5 billion dollar multi-year coup engineered by the US (the gist of the fp piece).”
Which coup? Oh, you mean the coup that overthrew the Russian puppet that Putin had spent a billion dollars installing in Ukraine through Russian propaganda and vote fraud.
I haven’t seen any proof that the U.S. was behind the Ukrainians taking back their country, let alone a dollar figure about the cost of said coup.
“There is absolutely no question that as a NATO member (the whole purpose of the coup) Ukraine would not be renting the Russians a naval base.”
Pure conjecture on your part. Ukraine was offered membership in the EU, and NATO membership would possibly have followed at some point, maybe.
But I’d like to conjecture that NATO would have allowed Russia to keep the naval base a Sebastopol because:
a) Ukraine has a treaty with Russia and EU/NATO members don’t break treaties.
Keeping agreements is recognized as a path to prosperity.
b) IF(big IF) Ukraine were a member of NATO, it would be more useful to allow Russia to keep the base at Sebastopol just for the SIGINT they could get from the Russian fleet, and also they would likely get some decent intel from walk-in(and I do mean walk) defectors.
All in all, Ukraine absolutely did not DO anything that warranted invasion.
If you think it’s OK to make war on the precautionary principle alone, we should nuke Russia right now, …just for precaution’s sake.
Canadians are talking more and more about missing and murdered aboriginal women.’ Click.
If you want to know where the missing and murdered aboriginal women are … start by water-boarding some young aboriginal men. Misogyny begins at home.
Otherwise it’s the closest thing we’ve got to compete with the American’s guilt over slavery that happened a couple of hundred years ago where none of the slaves nor the owners are alive and neither are any of the children … but the roles are still being played out for government largess as our indians do here ….
Sometimes I think white people deserve what is happening to them …. so stupid nowadays …
