Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Gates may be the worlds richest man, but that does not stop him from being a complete a**hole. Watch out for more theft from him and his cronies.
Fidel-er on the roof.
So, Mr. Gates, how did you become so wealthy?
By socialism?
“From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”
And, Mr. Gates, I need everything you have. So, hand it over, hot dog.
I’ll believe him when he gives away all of his belongings and chooses to live in a shipping container.
Learjet Liberal #1 has spoken. All of us plebeians are supposed to listen with awestruck wonder.
I swear everything is upside down.
Gates wants to push the scam, Putin, not so much.
Via Drudge, (re Putin)
Where’s the chorus of “but he’s not a climate scientist?” which is used to discount skeptics.
Bill Gates accomplished everything he was capable of before 25 years of age, the rest has been hot air and BS. I am with Gary D. if you don’t want what you have I will be more than happy to take some off your hands, I know it can be such a burden.
Headlines we didn’t see in 1976:
McDonald’s Founder Ray Kroc Says that Capitalism Cannot Help us with Computing Needs of the Future
For what it’s worth!!
Ok–the problem is not climate change and fossil fuels. It’s over-population. We’re breeding ourselves out of house and home!! An effective ”two parents–one child” program about 100 years ago may have saved the day! However the Pope told a good part of the world that if they engaged in birth control, they would face eternal damnation!!
What no one seems to be able to understand is that the reason we’re here to begin with is because the climate was ”human friendly,” and not because the human race was ”climate friendly.” One meteorite strike, one massive volcano and we could be toast.
Thus perhaps instead of promising an inexhaustible supply of pot for our frazzled youth, the Hon. Justin Trudeau may want to take a look at population reduction. We need to get to the root of the problem.
Ignore the troll.
And if Bill and MS really want to help, how about putting billions into designing climate software that “models” clouds and doesn’t give erroneous results?
Stop being so naïve people. I can’t believe a guy is ready to pour 2 billion $’s into something without thorough research first. Bill Gates can afford dozens of advisers too. Surely, he seek and knows the truth.
Do you truly believe that so many elites have become ignorant, low information morons overnight?
NO!
There is a globalist agenda. The elites of the world have been ordained to follow a plan and yes free capitalism is in the cross hairs.
Putin is complaining now but he will soon be a “believer” once the rest of the cabal figures out how Vladimir can also take advantage of Agenda 21 (Total control over human behavior on a planetary scale)
It’s happening people. The new Pharaohs are taking over. On a global scale.
Technology and advancement since the industrial revolution have brought enough tools for a “non malicious in intent, world takeover for human control”
How many times have we heard from the left that “socialism/Communism failed because it was not applied properly”. The simple truth though is that FREE Capitalism will always outperform socialism if they compete side by side. The key for world control is to kill capitalism that can only operate properly with freewill.
Even if mediocrity, which will surely settle in a totalitarian new world order, they will continue to print currency like they are doing now.
The world is totally broke financially speaking but is still running because we already live in a global reality where cash is just printed as needed. They just keep the system going by rigging it to their advantage.
Enjoy the decline toward a soft tyrannical high tech police world.
“In a world of lies, speaking the truth becomes an act of revolution”
Yet Gates believe throwing money at Africa will fix all of its problems.
We have been throwing tens or hundreds of billions of dollars at Africa for what? 70 years and there is no improvement. none at all, it is still a hell hole where people reproduce like rabbits.
Gates’ mind ( which was never a genius mind to begin with ) is clouded by liberalism.
really, over population and we need “control’, you are incapable of fathoming that of which you speak!!!
andycanuck.. there is not a program written that can model climate, and if there was, there ain’t no computer alive that could runit. I’v said that for years now, and on SDA. Or as one scientist put it, it would take a billion years to model 10 years of climate with todays level of computing. Money spent in this area id like owning a fixer-up boat!
Even if you have a new energy source that costs the same as today’s and emits no CO2,
They want to kill us all. Destroy the world.
CO2 is NOT a pollutant.
It’s plant food.
I’m hoping that all reactionary cheerleaders for capitalism can now take off the blinders and see that Gates, Turner, soros, Rockefeller et all are NOT capitalists but monopolists or oligopolists. They operate under the stated principle that competition (demand market capitalism) is a sin – masters of insider protectionism and competition destruction – a monopolist’s natural instinct politically runs to socialism/communism/fascism because these concentrate wealth and power in a tiny elite. Free market capitalists gravitate to open free societies with limited government and distribute wealth through osmosis.
As bona fides members of the wealth/political elite they are focused on controlling the masses so that they do not have to share their wealth or power and solidify their positions – the “now that I got mine, you all can starve” and “austerity for thee but not for me” mentality is in full display with a cloaking in politically correct moral sanitizing.
Captive markets, controlled populations -the monopolist’s wet dream and socialist systems deliver every time.
Talk about erecting a strawman argument. It has never been nor will ever be capitalism’s job to ‘SAVE US’ from anything. Long story short; if we devolve to a system that is saving us we will no longer have capitalism.
Gate’s foolishness is just more guilt and self-loathing from an uber-liberal.
Great comment Occam.
“Politically Correct Moral Sanitizing” indeed.! (I may well use that from time to time..!)
Seems to me those same Monoplists will all be gathering in Paris this December for an attempt at consolidating said world power under 1 umbrella agreement.
Canadians would and should be advised that this has little to do with “climate” and everything to do with control and potential loss of sovereignty….whereby the UN becomes the arbiter of all things “potentially” affected by climate…ie: Every damn thing you do.
Now where are those freedom fighters…??? Divergent anyone..???
“Since World War II, US-government R&D has defined the state of the art in almost every area. The private sector is in general inept.”
Really, Mr Gates? If I recall correctly Microsoft had no government funding and Apple began operations in a parent’s garage.
Socialism and carbon tax being praised by a guy who lives in a 66,000 sq ft mansion (that’s an acre and a half) that has heated driveways?
That was a really short clip of Gates’ ideas. The source interview from the Atlantic is a better read. IMO, his interview is a mix of practical and hopelessly idealistic.
Realistic: Unlike many CAGW-ers he understands the problems with wind and solar power. His solution seems to be a carbon tax to fund R&D and simultaneously make fossil fuels very expensive (he might want to consider the social cost of energy poverty). I disagree with deliberately making people poorer to fund “maybe” technologies.
From the Atlantic interview:
“Realistically, we may not get more than a doubling in government funding of energy R&D—but I would love to see a tripling, to $18 billion a year from the U.S…
…we need innovation that gives us energy that’s cheaper than today’s hydrocarbon energy, that has zero CO2 emissions, and that’s as reliable as today’s overall energy system.”
Hopelessly idealistic : If the CAGW alarmists were serious about their panic and the need for zero CO2 emissions quickly while maintaining reliable, affordable baseload power then there’s good: nuclear power. Gates briefly mentions nuclear and then casually dismisses it in favor of his hope for a more perfect solution. But, by his calculation of energy R&D, the US is spending about 6 billion now (a third of 18B). Nuclear energy already exists and if CAGW is truly as dire a threat as predicted then why is there all of a sudden this time to spend up to 18B on “maybe” technologies. Instead of spending billions on R&D, more CAGW research, renewable power subsidies, etc., divert it all into building actual nuclear power plants to replace fossil fuels. Even the ridiculously overpriced Hinkley Point in the UK will produce real MWs, not a bottomless hole of research that will take decades to produce anything remotely viable. If the reason is because nuclear is not perfect then, IMO, they are revealing that there really is no emergency and they just want to harvest billion in taxpayer (not government) money. Which is it – emergency or no emergency?
Gates is not a freedom guy. He’s the opposite.
How many of us experience freedom while using Microsoft products?
Gates thinks people are stupid and have to be controlled. So did Jobs. So do most of the nerds in Silicon Vally.
None of these guys wanted or liked the World Wide Web. They liked America On Line (AOL). They liked Compuserve. Remember that? Pay by the month dial-up access to the walled garden where everything was carefully tended.
Look at iTunes. That’s what these guys like. If they have their way, your car will not have a steering wheel or brakes. Because you’re stupid. You can’t be trusted with a steering wheel. You might go someplace you’re not supposed to go.
Like Bill Gates’ house. He doesn’t want that. Back to your shipping containers, you mindless rabble.
In Canada’s case maybe Ottawa should divert equalization payments, bailouts for Bombardier and the auto industry to replacing all coal generation with nuclear power. Free of charge. One nuclear facility with a couple reactors on the AB/SK border, for instance. No one should complain…CAGW is, after all, the greatest threat to ours and our children’s and our grand-children’s future. Can we afford not to make this historic transition? Shouldn’t it supersede all other priorities and petty regional bickering? Put your money where your mouth is. Take one for the team, central Canada. 🙂
Vista: how Bill sees the world…?
Sorry, dude. I’ve met the guy a couple of times, and I lived through the 90’s computing era. Gates is not the elite globalist you’re all trying to paint him as. What he is is a technocrat who sees technical/technological solutions to everything, and has a fairly poor understanding of how people – those messy, unpredictable, organic people – react to things. It’s why he understands wind/solar is bunk (he can do math) but sees capitalism and socialism as just two different computer models of an economy.
Also, the web would not be what it is without Microsoft wholeheartedly embracing the Internet and introducing the general public to it. Saying that Microsoft or Gates doesn’t want or like the World Wide Web is just stunningly ahistorical.
He’s also not wrong about government R&D. Virtually all modern computer hardware and software engineering begins with US military R&D, mostly the Apollo program.

You wrote a book in one sentence..
The control freak Bill Gates wants to get involved in climate change?
Will he force us to sign into our cars, homes, bank accounts, barns, pig farms, dog kennels, camping RVs, parks, recreations, nuclear power/natural gas plants, Cafeteria freezers, water heaters, etc. etc. with a 20 numbered ‘I Agree’ digitized Microsoft password.
WE24-NOW4-OWN6-YOUR-ASS2
bullshit..
BILL GATES STOLE ALMOST EVERY SOFTWARE SYSTEM HE OWNS FROM APPLE COMPUTER, IBM, XEROX, AND His FRIENDS AND EMPLOYEES.
and then stole billions from us going from DOS 2- into Windows@.
Screw Him..
The meme that Africa is an irredeemable hell hole that isn’t being fixed is a lie. Indicators in health and economics show that the continent on the whole is improving. Don’t get suckered by the media that focuses in on the worst parts. We like to rubberneck where there’s been an accident, and in this connected world we see one horrific thing after the other. If you allow yourself to be immersed in this, it’ll affect you.
Whether all the aid money flowing into the continent is to be blamed for its problems, or praised for its successes I can’t speak to. I know some money is going to good use, some wasted, and some has probably caused harm. That has to be taken case by case. Africa wouldn’t collapse if all aid stopped, but there are opportunities.
There was an “investigative” show on TV over the summer that talked about how the plague that hit Europe and knocked out much of the population was actually responsible for something like another 200 years of economic expansion and prosperity. It seems according to the show that making more room to live led to bigger houses, less fighting, more opportunity to build business, etc.
So if the case for low population density being a necessity for prosperity – how is China and India growing from third world to first world economies? And isn’t ultimately Capitalism the driving force in the emergence of both economies?
640K ought to be enough.
So don’t be greedy.
/sarc (in case you missed it)
Why do the super-rich always wait until they are old before having second thoughts about capitalist wealth?
Malthusians and pop control ideas have not been very successful in the real world. The time of greatest technological and human advancement has been since the industrial revolution. A time of both increased population and high density (urbanization). Poor countries are poor because of their government styles and lack of freedom (personal and economic).
@Martin B: ” according to the show that making more room to live led to bigger houses, less fighting, more opportunity to build business, etc.”
Didn’t see the show but I believe the point is different, i.e., that a shortage of labor allowed a better position vs the aristocracy. This in turn led to higher wages and innovation. This in turn led to a further weakening of the aristocracy and a transfer of wealth to more people, etc.
As to Bill Gate’s statement: “Since World War II, US-government R&D has defined the state of the art in almost every area. The private sector is in general inept.”
This merits some examination to determine its veracity. Certainly NASA’s efforts in reaching space was a product of government R&D. In fact war (certainly a component of NASA’s efforts) in general has been a driver of innovation via government R&D, particularly in aircraft development and nuclear energy and materials technology. But is it true overall?? Was the transistor, a revolutionary device that literally changed the world, invented by government funded R&D? And what about Edison’s inventions? Gate’s statement needs close examination.
Two very important facts I have not seen here yet:
1. Billy Gates daddy was a patent/licensing lawyer. Microsoft became what it is because of its legal department, not its technology.
2. Both Gates and Jobs, before they were icons, visited Xerox Park and both saw the Xoids Graphic User Interface (GUI)prototype, which made their empires possible, and flat out stole it from Xerox.
Have some sympathy for the truly wealthy, they have so much more to lose.
Gates used every trick of crony capitalism and property theft he could to amass a fortune.
Now when a supra government organization puts the arm on him, he has everything to lose and very few friends.
Why is Bill Gates a philanthropist ?
Because every one who has ever used MS systems wants to kill him, at one time or another.
Naturally Bill will say whatever he needs to to protect his wealth.
Maybe we could start with thermobaric devices dropped on our prisons – after evacuating the staff of course. Bring back the death penalty and USE it. Any objections? No? Outstanding.
Aaaaanywaaaay…guess Gates missed this. And this.
Always behind the 8-ball, Bill.
“Saying that Microsoft or Gates doesn’t want or like the World Wide Web is just stunningly ahistorical.”
I lived through it all too. I remember it differently from what you’re saying. Microsoft didn’t want to have anything to do with the Internet until the late 1990’s. Everything ran on Netscape until Microsoft made Internet Exploder part of Windows. Mostly because the early versions of Internet Exploder sucked harshly.
It still sucks. I still use Netscape, now known as Mozilla.
I reluctantly use Windows, because the Mac alternative is -so- much worse. I do have a Mac, but I hate it.
Linux of course remains the unfulfilled promise of the future. Every couple of years I load it on something and try to get by with it for a week or two. So far, not ready for prime time. OTOH it rocks for embedded systems and servers. I used it very successfully for a video signage application. Screenly running on a Raspberry Pi. Worked awesome, was basically free.
I still use Netscape, now known as Mozilla.
Agreed.
Gates had a flaming fit the day he discovered he could not control the World Wide Web.
Sleepless Nights,
Guards found he had been sleeping under a work table for three days.. ha.
Also agree about using Linux.
I load it, but rarely use it,
Its good for Hackers to see that I have it on my hard drive,
they shy away from making Hacks..
