  1. So they’re naming it after Gretzky then?
As a former Calgarian I have to protest, he will always be ‘the Whiner’ to me.

  2. Well, given Mr. Obama’s “Muslim faith”, perhaps he is simply referencing “Allahu Akbar” (“Allah is greater.”)

  3. I hope some alaskasn give King Obama the Fink the old Bronx Cheer andplney of catcalls

  4. // AMERICA’S TROLL IN CHIEF ARBITRARILY RENAMES … //
As the rest of the item doesn’t quite make clear, the request came from Alaska. Alaskans & local native groups used the old name anyway.
Just as Castle Mountain was called that through the decades when officiadom named it Mt Eisenhauer.
    &
During the Russian ownership of Alaska, the common name for the mountain was Bolshaya Gora (Большая Гора, “big mountain” in Russian), which is the Russian translation of Denali [wiki]

  5. Undoing the mistakes of Pres. Obama… well renaming it back to Mt. McInley will be cheap and easy. The other mistakes will linger on for decades.
What landmark to name after him?
None, please respect the earth more than that.
I predict his legacy will be mostly auditory.
His name shall be a curse for a thousand years.

  6. Remember the proposal to change mt Logan to mount Trudeau
I wrote a letter in protest and suggested an abyss in the Arctic

  7. Jefferson Memorial will soon be renamed The Jeffersons Memorial.
Stuck with Trudeau Airport instead of historic Dorval airport. Should have named white elephant Mirabel airport after him.
    airport

  9. In other news, Obama will drop his silly, pretentious made-up Islamic name and start using his actual birth name, Barry Soetoro. A White House press release touted the move as part of the President’s new effort to appear to be “down with the struggle.” Barry was golfing on Martha’s Vineyard and could not be bothered for comment.

  10. “The great one”? Uh, not6 so fast.
It actually means “big mountain”. For obvious reasons.

  11. What landmark to name after Obama? Perhaps the radioactive site of one of Iran’s nuclear installations after the Israelis hit it.

  12. As far back as the 1920s, I believe, the U.S. Congress passed a law that forbade the renaming of physical landmarks that already bore established Native American names, and I think that the principle has generally been honoured. No protection, of course, for other historic names that were not associated with Native Americans (Cape Canaveral, for instance). Mount McKinley had been renamed prior to the passage of this law, and I think that it was not the intent of the law to change names retroactively.
If the State of Alaska requested a change, I have no problem in principle with such a change, although the cost of making the change should have been taken into account. Of course, the idea of taking into account the cost of doing anything would be foreign to Mr Obama.

  13. And as a further update, the State of Alaska apparently pursued the proper course of action by a motion, introduced by Senator Lisa Murkowski, to Congress to change the name. The Congress declined to adopt the motion. Whether that was a good idea or not, the process played out according to the accepted rules. It seems clear that Mr Obama (once again and not surprisingly) overstepped his authority for a headline.

  14. Dunno, to me “the great one” will always be Jakie Gleason – who made far greater contribution to America than this washout from Commie Martyrs U.
I’m OK with a McKinley memorial somewhere else because he was one of the greater post civil war presidents – too bad his approach to “America first” economics, hard currency (gold) and resistance to foreign banking control of American finance lost him favor with the internationalists and ultimately got him assassinated. He was a true American – unlike the prancing traitorous narcissist which decommissioned his Alaskan monument.

  15. I guess the Democrats have conceded OHIO…..Nice move Obama,,
The Kenyan goes off the teleprompter. When it is an American issue he doesn’t have enough skin in the game…

  16. Are we sure Obama isn’t renaming it after a GM truck in tribute to his bailing out General Motors?

  17. It’s all part of culturally reversing the European colonization of North America. A few years ago the Straight of Georgia was renamed the Salish Sea. The SCOC has been on this theme for decades with their rulings on FNs which have all been aimed at progressively reversing sovereignty in favour of FNs. Instead of eliminating apartheid, progressives want to reverse it, making people of non-FN racial purity (less than one sixteenth) serfs of racially purer FNs, all administered by a huge racial-pimping bureaucracies. Of course at some point non-progressives might wake up and backlash will ensue.

  18. It’s all part of a larger trend of culturally reversing the European colonization of North America. A few years ago the Straight of Georgia was renamed the Salish Sea. The SCOC has been on this theme for decades with their rulings on FNs which have all been aimed at progressively reversing national sovereignty in favour of FNs. Instead of eliminating apartheid, progressives want to reverse it, making people of non-FN racial purity (less than one sixteenth) serfs of racially purer FNs, all administered by a huge racial-pimping bureaucracy-class. Of course at some point non-progressives might wake up and backlash will ensue, perhaps when, as various commentators have suggested, non European ethnic populations dominate and are not burdened with progressive “white” guilt which FN leadership have been masterful in nurturing.

  19. That is what I thought. I don’t know how many have had a chance to view the Magna Carta exhibit which was in Ottawa this year — maybe elsewhere. Part 1 was about the Magna Carta, and Part 2 was UN propaganda — Aboriginal rights, gay marriage rights, etc. There will be much more of this attempt to change history to suit the globalist agenda before they are done. Good bye sovereign nations.

  20. I know precisely where the Indian name came from.
A white guy asked an Indian the name of the mountain. The Indian replied, “Are you effing blind White man. It’s the big one.”
When does a description become a name? I hate it when honours are revoked.

  21. The only geographical feature that could appropriately be named after President Obama is Death Valley (the Marianas Trench inconveniently not being situated within the United States).

  22. Sure a lot of hand wringing over something the state of Alaska had done quite some time ago. O-dork-ma is throwing a soft pitch. It’s what the state had asked for over a decade ago.
btw – Obama doesn’t have the last word. That honor is being given to Hilary Clinton, she would prefer the mountain to be renamed Mt. Deniali
