A Public Engagement Goes Horribly Wrong

Via email;

Gord Miller, The Environmental Commissioner for Ontario – land of alternative energy, debt, taxes, and corrupt government – feels that “Governments should honestly advise the public about the risks they face, and the responsibilities they will bear, in a changing climate.”
He thoughtfully provided a spot for feedback at the bottom

Update: so far the moderator seems … unengaged.

  1. My comment, for when they inevitably delete it:
I’d like to take this rare opportunity to communicate with my ever-increasingly-distant government to say this: I am not deceived, sir.
There is no climate change. The planet is not warming. Or cooling. Or in fact doing anything different than what it always does. All of it is a propaganda effort put on by people who thought they would never get caught.
Indeed, if the planet did warm that would be a good thing for Canada. Longer growing season, better weather for more of the year, new agricultural land opened up. Greenland used to be green. We could benefit from that.
Instead, I’m getting my electric bills and taxes jacked up every year by the Liberal Party of Ontario. I’m paying $0.50 a kilowatt hour for wind generated power that is sold to the Americans for $0.10 per kWh. I’m loosing forty cents of my taxes for every kWh that’s generated by wind and solar. My electric bills are doubling because of the cost of windmills and etc. I’m in danger of spontaneous blackouts caused by windmills overstressing the archaic electric distribution network. I’m having valuable information about my household gathered by the Smart Meter attached to the side of my house without my consent, and sold to the highest bidder.
Also Mississauga gas plant. Also Ornge. Also EMR. Also the amazing disappearing hard drives in Queen’s Park.
Et Cetera. The list is long. As is my memory.
I am not deceived. Nor am I happy. If the Conservative Party runs a yellow dog in my riding I will vote for that dog before I will vote for a Liberal candidate. Because the dog will cause less damage. Even if it does make a mistake on the carpet, at least it won’t LIE about it.

  2. My comment, which I’m certain will not be published (but was fun to type nonetheless):
Methinks the only real threat to Canada re any actual ā€˜Climate Change’ is the inevitable return to a glacial epoch (and the ice-driven scraping of the detritus of Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Quebec City southward across the border). I encourage the Commissioner to start doing some research into the raw data of climate (actual unadjusted temperature records, actual historical and current rates of sea level rise, etc.), not so-called models or the unstoppable and shameless mouthpieces of the movement. It all falls apart so quickly when one does actual research…But keep writing pieces like the above if it makes you feel better. Cheers!

  3. Here’s mine, and yup, ony ther warmist’s is still up at this point:
Here’s my suggestion re: engagement: SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT IT! the gas has been let out of the balloon long ago, cf. two Climategate scandals, the fraud trial and sacking of Dr. Phil Jones of Hadley/CRU, the revelation of the Michael Mann “hockey stick” graph being based on dendrochronology of ONE TREE, the demonstration that the overwhelming majority of GISS surface-temp monitoring stations are sited near heat sources, massive recovery of Arctic sea ice after only a couple of years, and on and on and on. With a billion dollars worldwide PER DAY being spent on “climate change” now, I’m sure you want to feed at the trough as long as possible, but the end-to-end utter mendacity and venality of the whole AG warming/change/disruption/cooling myth is exposed for all to see at so many levels and in so many ways, your time is short.

  4. Comment posted:
How about waiting for the (now overdue) ice-free arctic to appear before engaging the public on climate change discussion. Until then, neither urgency nor tax dollars are required in this matter.

  5. I submitted my comment yesterday and I see it didn’t make it through moderation.
    What i wrote;
In light of the fact that the climate has been and always will be changing, irrespective of human activity, just what aspects of climate do you feel we would be able to control? Would it be Temperatures? Precipitation? Winds? Given that, what climate specifications need to be present to be able to determine our ideal, or as Glen Murray has described as a ā€œnormalā€ climate? If we are to enter into this, we should have predetermined goals established.
I guess this is just too much to ask.

  6. Paul–agreed re waste of breath. Slight correction, though: These aren’t “people”, they are quite obviously “censors”.

  7. My comment as they requested is as follows;Michael McCallion Senior on January 7, 2015 at 3:12 pm said:

i am interested in how a voter living in a Ontario Electoral Riding is able to avoid having any more Wind Turbines established in the Riding because the Riding did not vote in a Liberal Party Member of Ontario’s Legislature.
The Electoral Riding of my residency is faced with more Wind Turbines as is a near riding which now has the Fifth Largest number of Wind Farms in North America and this is saying a lot. Our Riding and the above mentioned Riding have voted against Wind Turbines and many of us have put up signs to this effect.
I guess the neighbouring Riding receiving so many Wind Turbines is to be expected as it is the Riding the former Leader of the Opposition and his family live in. If I join the Liberal Party of Ontario and put out signs supporting Wind Turbines will there be a stoppage of Wind Turbines in my Riding?
In reality the installation of Wind Turbines should only be installed within Urban Boundaries for Social Justice. These areas are where the most pollutants are generated and the most people will be able to see how the Ontario Government is spending money for Alternative Energy.
Possibly installing Wind Turbines between high rise apartments in the major Urban Areas will be able to reduce the cost of approximately $500,000:00 per Tower to a lower cost. This will also reduce the cost of establishing connections to the Electrical Grid as there are lines in place for the fossil fuel back-up when the wind doesn’t blow.
Another thought to be explored is the increase in the wind flow for Wind Turbines installed between apartment buildings, particularly high rise condominiums near the Great Lakes, due to the funnel effect.
Thank you for this opportunity to comment and make suggestions. You have my email address as requested. Kindly acknowledge within the Ontario Government guidelines to the email address shown.
    Sincerely yours; Michael McCallion Senior.

  8. I posted the following message which is awaiting moderation.
“The Arctic ice extent shows no signs of the ā€œdeath spiralā€ forecast by a so called climate scientist named Mark Sereeze, global sea ice is hugely above normal and the polar bear is thriving. RSS satellite temperature data shows global temperature flat for 18 plus years while atmospheric concentration of CO2 has been steadily rising. North Americans east of the Rockies experienced a brutal winter in 2013-2014. The vaunted GCM climate models are failures in that they diverge from real world data. The ā€œclimategateā€ email leaks show a portion of leading climate scientists not as paragons of scientific virtue but as enforcers of the groupthink consensus. Is it any wonder that there is so much suspicion of the catastrophic climate change message.”

  9. The one comment posted thus far is this rent-seeker:

Mr. Noble holds an MBA and B.Sc. in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University, is licensed as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario, and is a Certified Passive House Designer. He was trained by Al Gore and the Climate Reality Project as a volunteer Climate Leader in 2013. Duncan lives in the Bonnechere River Watershed in Renfrew County.

. Be curious to know his relationship to one Leslie Noble of previous provincial political infamy.
Never ceases to amaze me how someone can hold a degree in engineering physiscs, and yet understand so little physics…. But then, his focus isn’t physics, its making money off of it….

  10. Only comment on the site so far is from a Duncan who mumbled something about slavery.
Actually, its too bad global warming wasn’t real… it’s pretty damn cold here right now and I am thankful that millions of years ago Dino and some swampland died and left a natural gas deposit, some of which I am using now.

  11. Here’s what I sent….won’t be posted of course, but there’s value in saying what has to be said.
“Governments should honestly advise the public about the risks they face…”
I’m still laughing over that one. Here you are, a representative of the most ethically barren government that Ontario has ever experienced, and you are advocating honesty.
You don’t want to hear the truth about climate change, because you are complicit in this gigantic AGW fraud that has been perpetrated on a gullible public by sociopathic politicians and parasites like yourself.
Simply put, you are a disgrace to your province, your country, and to the human race.
    Yours truly

  12. So this whole ‘not posting replies’ thing is really pissing me off. I just replied with this:
Why are you not posting any of the (likely dozens, at this point) replies/comments being made? The only one you are posting is that from fellow climate change alarmist Duncan Noble. Thus, you are effectively engaging in censorship, something antithetical to the Canadian system of government (and free societies overall). Unless there is a technical glitch here (there’s your easy out–you’re welcome) you are proving yourselves lazy, cowardly, evil, or all three. Please post the replies, lest you exhibit a fear of a free press that 12 people in Paris just gave their lives to protect.

  13. Whenever I hear about the “impacts” (effects) of climate change, I laugh it off. “Climate change” sounds a lot like “water wet”, or “fire hot”.

  14. The theme of his message…”if only we could chat with those folks we could convince them that we are ‘in charge’ and we will fight this climate change because Al Gore”
I won’t be leaving a comment…but I’ll give my MP Vic Fedeli a heads up so he can post one.

  15. Chief sourses of HOT AIR Liberal polticians, enviromental activists and goverment buricrats

  16. Yea, I sent him a little love letter too which will never see the light of day . They will not let anything past the censor that does not meet their Suzuki/Gore stamp of approval. Just like the CBC. Brainwashed lapdogs

  17. Here’s my comment, which I post here because I am sure it will never see the light of day at our State-funded Commissioners website

This article is interesting to me because it seems to fly against observable facts.
. The Ontario Government has never been timid about its climate change agenda. Where have you been the last 10 years?
. the Ministry of Environment was renamed ‘Environment and Climate Change’. Did you miss that?
. fighting climate change is the first thing mentioned on the new MoE & CS website … did you miss that?
. my electricity bills have doubled due to Green Energy Act brought in by this government, which saw unreliable wind & solar at highest prices, displace other power sources, all in the name of climate change. This message is constantly being hammered home.
. Magma has announced they will build no new auto parts plants in Ontario, due in part to high electricity prices. Other industries have fled the province. Did you miss that?
. MoE &CS Minister Glen Murray is talking about a Carbon Tax to further his agenda. Yet more monies sucked out of the economy to go into the treasury, to buy the next election.
This government only seems to know how to increase taxes, and spend more & more. Only an idiot would believe their economic statements. The credit ratings for Ontario were cut again recently. Did you miss that?
. when that liar McGuinty was Premier, he forced Time of Use power meters, which the AG of Ontario has determined was not costed correctly, cost hundreds of millions more than expected, and do not provide the benefits claimed.
It’s hard to trust anything from Queens Park anymore.
And to have a Ontario Environmental Commissioner lecture us, on how Ontario should spend EVEN MORE MONEY to advertise climate change, really that is ludicrous. China is building hundreds of new power plants, most of them coal fired. Our chances of making any kind of global impact on CO2 emissions are minuscule in comparison.
BTW where are other comments? Does the Environmental Commissioner only publish APPROVED comments that fit your world-view? How pathetic, to use public funds to ask for a “climate conversation”, and then censor the parts of the public that disagree with your hobbyhorse.

  18. From the start of the article: “For years most politicians didn’t want to touch the climate change issue. Perhaps they saw it as a political loser, or they were afraid to scare people. And, of course, talking about climate change would mean they’d be expected to actually do something about it. Now, as people start to see the impacts of climate change on their daily lives to a greater degree, the public is realizing that action is necessary.”
    Impacts:
    – corrupt rent seeking conmen cashing in
    – capital markets for taxing thin air
    – gas taxes and soaring electricity prices that hurt the poor most
    – Africa starved into subsistence by ideologues trying to deny them modernization
    – “externalities” that are taxed but revenues not used for alternative fuel research
    – one bogus report after another from shriller by the minute “tipping point” idiots
    Necessary public action:
    – turfing out socialist politicians throughout the world
    – hopefully some criminal charges for the well known perps
    – some action of actual pollution
    – Stephen Harper remaining our PM for years to come
    – socialist heads exploding everywhere
On the “ain’t it ironic” front – the surcharge Torontariowe taxes their residents for “green” projects, such as useless wind turbines – has been returned to the beleaguered taxpayer through lower gas taxes resulting from falling oil and gasoline prices – in roughly the same amounts. Priceless.

  19. Okay people, let’s calm down and have some fun with this. Post some “dumb blonde” comments (dare I say that) in favour of the lefty position. I know you are a creative bunch.

  20. I replied to Dorkin Noble’s “slavery and higher and better nature” jibberish.
Here, here, lets hope that awareness of modern climate science, engagement and action through appeals to “our higher and better natures”, as you say. If we could build off of the “higher and better nature”d work started by Liberal Deputy Minister of education Ben Levin (under now Premier Wynne, no less) as it applies to provincial sex education awareness and Liberal Attorney General Michael Bryant to “justice” awareness the province would be lousy with unicorns and rainbows.
    Good show.

  21. Those that left comments.
It is not futile, the socialists will take note if there is a good (whatever that is) number of people that point out the nonsense of AGW scientologists.
There is a saying “quiet waters wash the shore”.
It works even if it is not readily apparent, if a good number of people points that out it will get noticed, guaranteed.
    So just keep doing it.

  22. He’s probably in therapy right now looking for the root cause of what went wrong and why the world hates him just for trying to save the planet. Dont want to encourage the poor fella by giving him a few crumbs of lefty nonsense.

  23. In Kelowna, they got more than two feet of white global worming past weekend.
    Since the 50′ or so.

  24. My two bits which will never see the light of day:
Vast sums of wealth have been consumed by rent seekers intent on reinforcing the unsubstantiated hypothesis of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming. The political class has succumbed to this corrupted science as it builds on a symbiosis of subsidized hysteria which strengthens the perceived need for further statist incursions (political action) and the ultimate hubris that politicians that haven’t balanced a budget in decades can alter the climate by controlling the man made input of a single variable in a highly complex system. Failed climate models have proven only failure of hypotheses. That the province of Ontario has succeeded in increasing energy impoverishment in a futile but politically approved manner is testament to another failed socialist venture – public education.

  25. Dear Ontario Environment Commissioner; The 1st way to engage the public on climate change is using the science. But not the science engaged in by a handful of UN scientist at the IPCC. Their entire ā€œscienceā€ is built on the premise that increasing CO2 levels x amount has a corresponding y effect on climate. Their models are a complete deviation from reality. They are a complete fraud and anyone touting their work is either on the take or ridiculously naĆÆve. As a member of the public, I do believe I am with the majority that has deep rooted skepticism about this. You state that we are witnessing the effects today, as if any bad weather event today is caused by CO2? I can go on but I know this won’t make it past your censors anyway. Expecting truth and openness from the Ontario Government is a pretty silly notion. That is where you start! – See more at: http://www.eco.on.ca/blog/2015/01/06/engage-public-climate-change/#comment-273334

  26. If I bothered, it would somewhat along this line:
Mr Noble, you work for a Lieberal govt that is as crooked as a dog’s hind leg.
Have you ever had the satisfaction of being employed by a productive company
    that accomplished anything worthwhile?
    Are you a crook too?

  27. .
I expect my comment will not get past the moderators so here it is.
    …………………………………………….
    Your comment is awaiting moderation.
Trouble is the Gore – Suzuki coalition smothered us in scary warnings that the planet was crashing and burning at an alarming rate
Then the truth came out that the planet has only warmed by 0.8 degree in the past 100 years , and has not warmed at all in the last 18 years
Most of the citizens have figured that out , some of the politicians have , and hopefully some day the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario will realize it too.
    …………………………………………….
We should all keep track of our comments that do not get posted and then take the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario to task … they hate to be on the hot seat
I did that 6 years ago to the CBC thru the ombudsman office and it straightened them right out.

  28. Your comment is awaiting moderation.
Climate has and will always be changing. Spending millions on expensive, unsuitable sources of energy (wind, solar) is foolish. You are hurting ALL the taxpayers with these useless schemes that will not alter the future climate one iota.

  29. Lost in “moderation”…. I wrote:
Governments trying to ā€œfixā€ the environment only succeed in breaking the economy – since most ā€œfixesā€ involve taxes, fees, or subsidies.
As to your assertion that ā€œOntario has been relatively timid about communicating with the public about climate changeā€ – that’s just silly. We’ve had a succession of disastrous energy boondoggles foisted on us in the name of global warming, and we all get to enjoy regular sermons by Ontario MPs who are eager to demonstrate their environmental piety.
How about engaging with the public about the things they want to talk about – like the state of the economy, or the high price of electricity?

  30. I’m going to give it 24 hours, and file a FOI request about the non-posting of comments.

  31. Dyspeptic, I hope you do file an FOI, tomorrow, bright and early.
I too left a comment, similar to the ones above:
I wish the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario would be more explicit about ā€œclimate changeā€. Does he mean ā€œglobal warmingā€? If so, someone needs to let him know that the global temperature has not warmed (or, thankfully, cooled) since the 1990’s.
Does he perhaps mean ā€œclimate changeā€, such as in some years it’s more rainy, more snowy, drier, stormier, &/or colder or hotter. But the climate has always been changing, some times for the better and some times for the worse.
Maybe the reason that some politicians don’t want to talk about climate change is that there has not been one ā€œclimate changeā€ prediction or projection that has come to pass. Global sea ice is at record levels (at least, as long as we’ve been tracking it, which is only a few decades) and the polar bears are doing nicely, thank you. Tornado activity is down (which could be considered ā€œclimate changeā€, and is indeed good news).
The problem with Ontario’s policies is that the price of energy, which we depend on to heat our homes and run our businesses, has been rising as a result of boneheaded government policies. Increasing energy prices hurt the poor and drive businesses out of the province, perhaps to the prairies, perhaps to China, and this hurts Ontario’s middle class. The only folks who benefit are the politicians and their well-connected cronies.
    For shame.

I am getting so goddamn fed up with the climate BS that is adrift in the govt and the media. I am getting tired of having to write letters to the editor of the Lethbridge Herald that is SOOO far up global warming’s a$$ it is sickening. BAH! ☺

  33. I placed a quite civil comment questioning the urgency around a mysterious climate change theory that has no legs. There is nothing but normal weather fluctuations that I have been observing for over 70 years. I have seen al, this weather before. The fact that it changes up a bit from time time makes life a bit more interesting. The point is that we got here as we are by adapting to our world during ice ages and warming periods … Why raise taxes when there is no climate problem and if there is … Adapting is our only option.

  34. My two bits and I agree, this Environmental Commissioner needs to be publically called out. He/she can’t spend public money calling for ‘engagement with the public’ and inviting public comments and then to publish only the comment (one!) with which he concurs. Engagement means open, public and transparent information transmission.
    ________________________________________________________________
When does a ā€˜trend’ of nearly 20 years become statistically relevant? We have seen no global temperature increases, no sea level rise, the return of both Arctic and Antarctic sea ice volume. We have had fewer force 4 and 5 hurricanes in NA than have been seen over many decades. Yet every ā€˜event’ of weather is proclaimed a product of man caused global warming. Time to give it up. We aren’t buying it and Ontario of all places, cannot afford expensive ā€˜mitigation schemes’ to control the trace gas essential for all life. Wolf has been called too many times, beginning in 1964 with Silent Spring. None of the predictions -none- have been borne out in reality.

  35. I left two about 16 hours ago. Both are still awaiting moderation. Whatever does it all mean??

  36. .
Here is my post over there …..
Engage the public ? You just dont get it Sir … we are engaged …. the problem is most websites are moderated and censored and if we (the public) do not concur with the ā€œGlobal Warmingā€ agenda we are shut out
But folks like me have a very powerful advocate on our side , it is called the planet
The planet simply refuses to be obedient to the wishes of the Global Warming agenda. The planet has not warmed for over 15 years now …. maybe it is you who is a bit disengaged ?? Best wishes.
I doubt my post will even make it past the moderators here … maybe the censorship issue should go in front of a Court of Queens Bench Judge for a ruling.
    ………..
