In an interview with the Vancouver Sun earlier this week, Trudeau mused that a Liberal government would repeal the First Nations Financial Transparency Act, the new law that requires First Nations to post their audited financial statements online or risk losing government funding.
The Liberal leader said the bill reflected a “lack of respect for First Nations” and was being used by the Conservatives as a weapon against critics.
The law came into effect at the end of July. About half of the 600 First Nations communities affected by the law have yet to post their reports.

If half have failed to comply, then about half have already posted their financials. What do the ones who haven’t done so have to hide?
No, pandering to white progressives while ignoring the rights of the vast majority of First Nations people living on reserves demonstrates a lack of respect for First Nations.
Exactly. You may recall that Shiny Pony was an early and emphatic supporter of Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence and her “idle no more” hunger strike. I note Chief Spence in the Post today, drawing some scrutiny after awarding herself an 18.8% raise. Doubtless for “merit.” A better title for her protest movement would be “idle no less”.
Because honesty (outside of the family group) and accountability are so oppressive to non-whiteys.
I suspect it won’t be long before he’s opening calling for sharia to be accepted in place of common law in portions of the country. In the names of diversity and universality, of course.
There doesn’t seem to be an interest group that he will not pander to… except taxpayers of course.
God, help us all
ya but;
he looks good at pride parades
“de heir”

great “tax supported” speaker

well i’ll beef hooked………
Wasn’t it the leader of the turd party who wanted his MP’s to post their expenses online…cause after all it was taxpayer’s money?
As far as these old eyes can see so are dollars paid out of gov’t coffers to native bands.
The Liberal leaders desire to repeal the bill reflects a “lack of respect for Canadians” and will be used by the Liberals as a weapon against taxpayers.
Honestly … how does insisting on financial transparency and accountability, especially with taxpayers’ money, equate to “lack of respect for First Nations”? Taxpayers have a right to know exactly how their money is being spent and, perhaps just as importantly, those living on reserves deserve to have access to all information on revenue and expenses. This is especially true for those living in substandard housing while chief and council appear to be doing quite well.
On a recent radio talk show, the hosts attempted to spin the whole First Nations Financial Transparency Act as PMSH’s attempt to punish natives for indulging in foolishness such as Idle No More and blocking resource development at every opportunity. Such a ludicrous attempt at deflecting was not totally surprising considering that one of the hosts was none other than the illustrious Murray Mandryk, a complete idiot and political commentator who is absolutely paranoid over any politician more conservative than Tommy Douglas.
Even though they basically contradicted what they had previously said, on a positive note, they did agree that the whole mess could never be cleaned up until the matter of certain chiefs’ salaries and benefits was dealt with. Does this not make them racist?
Justin Trudeau equates the Harper government’s requirment of financial transparency to a “lack of respect”.
Don Corleone could not have said it better.
Is Trudeau campaigning to be the new Liberal Godfather?
Chief Ron Geisbrecht, who was paid 900,000 dollars last year for his services to a band of 81, half of whom don’t live on reserve, will he be voting for Trudeau?
Will he and others like him be campaigning for the Liberals.
Accounting and accountable, transparency is the first step in a new stereotype.
The Timid Conservatives take another step forward.
All it took was JT to beat up one native in the ring to feel empowered to “beat up” an the culture nationally.
This is the thinly disguised racism of low expectations welling to the surface from the appropriate progressive narrative. He really doesn’t think that those governing the inhabitants of government created, sanctioned, and perpetuated racial ghettos should be held to the same standards as the rest of us. It would also go against multiculturalism that Native Indians (and Quebec) be judged by such Anglo standards of accountability or any standards for that mater.
For the Spawn, pimping the mindless has never been easier as the media are all masquerading as his proctologist.
Now look here, we invented Apartheid, how dare you ask us to give up such a proud accomplishment.
The Canadian Indian Act is a most wonderful tool to grind persons of North American Indian decent into the frozen mud.
There is a massive bureaucracy that depends upon it.
You want to put all these overpaid parasites out of work?
You must be RACIST.
Libtards never did do logic well, that why they are so hysterical.
What is so ironic, is that we could probably gift every “Indian” $100,000/year and still come out ahead of continuing the current gong show.
Now I need to go find # of indians in Canada and total expenditure on same, Indian affairs,Heath, transfers, Justice, Welfare…..
Anyone got a shortcut to credible number?
JT cannot wait to get a huge dump truck … Euclid sized to shovel our money off in all directions of potential votes. This is how our democracy works … he who pays the most for them …. gets the votes …. this has to change … somehow … someday … but not before we are in ruins.
So he mused in an interview. Is this the new Liberal way of devising policy? Canada, one of the last bastions of parliamentary government, we hardly knew ye.
Both in Canada and in the U.S. I’ve long thought that the requirement to fill out a tax return constitutes a lack of respect for me. Bring on the Honour System.
“Chief Ron Geisbrecht, who was paid 900,000 dollars last year for his services to a band of 81, half of whom don’t live on reserve, will he be voting for Trudeau?
Will he and others like him be campaigning for the Liberals.”
Yes,they will be campaigning for Trudeau, and you can bet that every one of the 1500 votes tabulated on Chief Giesbrecht’s Rez will be FOR the Liberals.
If this “Financial Transparency Act” was brought in decades ago, perhaps the rank and file natives would not be so badly off. The government dole would have been equalized much better.
JT’s lieberal handlers, who are the power behind the throne, are planning to mobilize the young Facebook-Twits who likely wouldn’t ever vote for any ‘old white guys’. The handlers know it’s a popularity contest, and a ‘rock-star’ candidate appeals to the demographic they’re cultivating. They’ll use social media to get out the vote. It will be evident if the voting turnout percent increases. It’s insidiously clever and preys on people’s ignorance. It shows how easily they’re fooled by media propaganda.
The CPC meanwhile keeps on with attack ads that only appeal to the party faithful who would always vote for them anyway. Attack ads generally turn off the middle-of-the-road majority who could vote either way. The CPC should instead focus on what they’ve done with their government mandate, and what they intend to do if it’s extended, and completely ignore the opposition leaders as unworthy of attention.
Operation Empty Shiny Pony.
I had to check my calendar to make sure that it wasn’t April 1.
Individuals shouldn’t have to file an income tax return; there should be no individual income tax.
The only tax should be on what we buy, with basics being tax exempt like with the GST. The more one consumes the more they use the tax supported infrastructure. That’s a fair user-pay tax system.
Tribalism and culture wars is the way “forward”… for power. The radicals that run the hamster wheel inside Junior Turds head believe the way to power is to pit one tribe against the other in the most delightful muti-cult way. What good is Daddy’s multi-Cult Canada without some good old fashioned pandering to the tribes, be they radical Muzzies or our own apartheid indians. Now if the radicals behind Turd Jr can just find a way to rile up the french talkers in Quebec, because the country belongs to them according to Junior Stupid, and perhaps promise them even more “free cash” then the election will be won. God help us.
No, exempt nothing. That way, the only untaxed purchases are in the underground economy. This provides an “Irish democracy” check on excess taxation; if the sales tax gets too high, everyone goes underground.
However, since we already have the GST, it makes sense to eliminate the income tax and boost the GST rate as an interim measure, while knocking off the exemptions piecemeal. Set the GST rate such that 18% of GDP is taken in taxes (that’s probably an 11% GST, with a multiplier effect) and the change would be revenue neutral for the government. It would eliminate a ton of red tape and lost compliance hours. If there’s no exemptions, there’s no need to hide money in tax shelters. In fact if there’s no exemptions there are no tax shelters – you buy in Canada, you pay tax.
Then if the feds eliminate *all* assistance programs to individuals (CPP, EI, welfare), and replace it with an equal monthly stipend for every citizen, another huge ball of red tape is eliminated. If you’re getting $250 (or some value chosen as optimum) a month from the government, and so is each of your kids, well that’s probably less than welfare pays, but you can get a job without losing the benefit. For someone that doesn’t need the money, well, that’s just mad money. To someone who really needs it, there’s no jumping through hoops with applications, no need to work under the table.
These two prongs are pretty much the Fair Tax model. The amount of revenue taken in by the government stays the same, but far fewer government employees are needed to ensure compliance, and far less private effort is wasted in compliance with a Byzantine network of laws. So, government administrative costs go way down, everyone has skin in the game, everyone gets treated equally.
Do those two things, get rid of the minimum wage, and watch the whole economy soar.
Actually, the party faithful also view the attack ads as juvenile and unhelpful. I have told CPC no more donations until they get a new bunch of war room people who are over 20 and can appeal to well-educated people in cities, who are the real swing voters.
Yes We never voted for ANY OF THESE COMMUNIST pay-as-you-go-out-of general revenue EI, CPP, OAS, Guaranteed Income or Healthcare programs, so get rid of them ALL and let us pay our own way and have private insurance and NO personal income taxes. Also union dues should be voluntary and not subject to any deductions. We do not need a whole bunch of new Canadians who are not thriving to pay. Cut off all future benefits and deductions for all of this for people under, say 35. These measures were voted in by people who are now dead or quite elderly. EI is an insane program that taxes public servants to pay for itinerant workers, at great expense due to federal wages and benefits; CPP sort of works, except it had to be separately-funded from the get-go, and was not; OAS is clawed back, so unfair; GI is welfare; and healthcare is so abused and administratively-challenged that it needs a complete overhaul.
The federal government should get out of some businesses, as they are doing a bit. This is a big country and our constitution wisely provides for provincial controls over certain mandates, including health and education.
Transfer payments should be limited to very basic services, excluding whimsical social programs like the unaffordable Quebec daycare program. Quebec should NOT be allowed to approve immigrants, as they move to BC.
