  1. I would imagine that when Ernest Manning was premier of Alberta that his staff had few occasions to question his use
of government resources. But I doubt he would have fired anyone who did so.
Why does the Government of Alberta need a fleet of transport aircraft? Tony Abbott of Australia flies economy.
It is an obvious campaign slogan for Wildrose:
“we will fly commercial.” Perhaps a Twin Otter could be justified. I doubt that anyone would question a government
minister for flying in a bush plane into the north of Alberta.
(The Twin Otter is a great aircraft and I have enjoyed every flight I’ve made in one; but the media don’t need to know
    how much fun they are).

  2. The problem with Alberta is outside of Calgary/Edmonton/Fort McMurray there are almost no flights and the few there are are not often enough to plan a trip unless you have a 2 or 3 days.
Ask M.L.A. Grant Notley about flying on crappy little airlines in bad weather. Well, I guess you have to ask his M.L.A. daughter.

  3. In most cases there is no need for the Premier to be “there” on short notice. Say you had a forest fire threaten the town of High Level? Does the Premier need to be there, just for a photo op? No. In fact, in situations like that, having a VIP come to the scene just diverts resources away from the job at hand.

  4. At the comments, one person questions whether one skinny little woman could strike fear into the hearts of her fellow politicians and civil servants.
Yes,she could, there is no one more chickensh*t than a civil servant in danger of losing his job.
No surprise Redford is being revealed as a bullying thug, either.

  5. Apparently this misuse of government airplanes began when Ms Redford first entered the cabinet. So why, during the campaign for the party leadership, wasn’t this brought up?

  6. ……..”‘and those who did challenge her were scorned and dismissed'”, insiders say.
Then they should have spoken up and been dismissed, the cowards. They work for US, not HER. NOW who is being scorned?
Don Morris – “Yes, she could, there is no one more chickensh*t than a civil servant in danger of losing his job.”
This this and this. Full stop.

  7. Having worked in the federal public service, I can attest to this! Nobody wants to mix it up with the Minister’s Office if they want to maintain any career momemtum; only senior EX’s with just a few days from retirement would dare.

  8. Every day ,every new expose show our governments to be staffed with fools, bandits and craven thieves..all here to help of course.
Time to bring dramatic repercussions down upon the malefactors who have begged for their opportunity to perform the roles of the great government drama.
The only useful function of government is to perform a morality play designed to convince the foolish and criminal that civilization is real.
Most of us will go through life working as enlightened self interest directs us,acting toward others as we expect to be acted toward.
Now that government has become a stronghold of the bandits and foolish parasites, it has negative effects upon productive society.
Corrupt officials and a flourishing kleptocracy will destroy civil society far quicker than an asteroid.

  9. “…there is no one more chickensh*t than a civil servant in danger of losing his job.”
    HEE, Heee, heeeeeeeee…..
Except for a political party fart-catcher.

  10. I suspect that a large proportion of the senior bureaucrats (management, not union )in Alberta are hacks and appointees rather than professional bureaucrats interchangeable between and from line ministries. Alberta has been PC for so long and unlike BC where there has been NDP / Liberal mixing in the ranks, they aren’t as afraid of NDP sabotage (visible only to those who have come up through the ranks) and instead planted ignorant but blusterous Party hacks loyal to the top guaranteeing corruption and incompetence. Allowing the governing party enough rope to hang themselves is another form of bureaucrat revenge. There are likely some bureaucrats in Alberta who have taken some delight in the outcome.

  11. “and those who did challenge her were scorned and dismissed, insiders say.”
    Government insiders, eh? Horseshit.
Government Union Workers have a powerful Union that makes it nigh impossible to “dismiss” them, let alone “scorn”(whatever-the-hell-that-means) and you people eat this self-serving propaganda up like it was ice cream.
Seems the old witch is still good for something.

  12. Culture of fear….ya a fear that if they spoke up they wouldn’t get their chance at a cushy promotion or their chances to dip into the trough.
