The Sound Of Settled Science

Via WUWT;

Stephen Briggs from the European Space Agency’s Directorate of Earth Observation says that sea surface temperature data is the worst indicator of global climate that can be used, describing it as “lousy”.
“It is like looking at the last hair on the tail of a dog and trying to decide what breed it is,” he said on Friday at the Royal Society in London.
“The models don’t have the skill we thought they had. That’s the problem,” admits Peter Jan van Leeuwen, director of the National Centre of Earth Observation at the University of Reading.
Obviously if the surface temperature was still rising, as it was in the 90s, instead of inconveniently contradicting model predictions, then it would still be considered a valid climate metric.
Thankfully however, climate scientists have not yet run out of metrics which show an upward trend. The new measure of global warming is to be sea level rise – presumably because it is still moving in the right direction, and because it ties in nicely with the “deep ocean heating” narrative.

  1. They’ll use the temperature in the heads of dandelions next if that will prop up the scam for another week — anything but honestly admit, “We don’t know.”

  2. I still remember when Canada gave the Commonwealth Summit millions of dollars to help in the raising waters that were suppose to happen several years ago. I was suppose to go to relocating those affected by the rising oceans, nobody has been moved yet – what a waste of money. The worst part is when Prince Charles comes to Canad he condemns us for not doing more on Global Warming/Climate Change. How much did the ocean go up? perhaps, the most, one mm.
I am happy that the government supports Australia’s stance on Global Warming/Climate Change, now to see them implement that stance … by passing the pipeline through BC and Alberta.

  3. I’m sure all the warmists are already lighting the fire for the ‘burning the heretic at the stake’ party.

  4. Man, these AGWers are some slick Sob’es, everytime their ‘data’ gets exposed as bad, corrupt, manipulated or fudged they just come up with a new strategy. They are as slippery as snakes in a mudhole.

And now, we have a sitting US President that flat out lies to the World. But then again, Obama lies about everything.

  5. This measurement can be at least as corrupt as land based temperatures or sea surface temperatures. Tide gauges do not remain at a constant elevation over time. All harbours subside to some degree. (This is why New Orleans is now lower than sea level, for example.) If the rate of subsidence is not taken into account sufficiently and accurately, tide gauges will tell you nothing about sea level change overall.

  6. There machinations become more surreal by the day. The public thankfully has caught on to these phoney science traipse artists.

  7. They are tasked with delivering the data underpinnings
to permit the world’s most ambitious red facist tax scam
to go forward under MSM protective shelter. The fact that
it is all just stale dated nonsense doesn’t seem to faze
idiot Kerry & Co. at all.

  8. Agreed that sea level measurements can be gamed by the unscrupulous, but not all harbours subside. Some coastlines are rising, and some are settling, and some are static. Has everything to do with plate tectonics and glacial history. Isostatic rebound, for instance.

  9. I think these government hired people should be paid more, their skill level of lying truly impresses me. Being a gypsy I am an accomplished liar, but even I can’t lie as good as these clowns:-))))
