And the billion or so that the McGuintyite crew in Queen’s Park blew off would pay for a thousand PM trips to the Middle East.
For that matter, it would pay 10 to 15 Obama trips.
But you’ll never hear the CBC making that sort of comparison.
Yes, that Steyn piece was spot on.
Millions upon millions for security and medical support. And the irony of it all is that since Reagan, they have all been so expendable.
And the outlandish security expenses is perfect cover for lavish extravagance for those who attend.
When I was working the Toronto G20 as a driver i was standing in front of the Royal York Hotel watching Obama’s entourage arrive. They were staying at the hotel at the Conference centre and his convoy stretched all the way from there to the RY. This was inside the huge closed off, with 13,000 cops, downtown Toronto. Just insane.
Well, yes, a million bucks is a lot of money (or it used to be) and a hundred million is that much more. But, it seems to me that the attempted “gotcha” in the TO Star piece is the fact that the bureaucracy may have publicly downplayed the cost.
We should be exceedingly thankful that we can ferry our PM to a violent part of the world for 1% (or less) of what the Yanks have to spend. Does anyone really believe you can deploy an aircraft carrier and have 24/7 air cover in addition to all the other costs mentioned for “only” a hundred million?
Still, wouldn’t it be nice if we had an aircraft carrier to deploy? Not to mention actual aircraft to fly off it?

Why are Cons so obsessed with non stories and fake scandals when the target is not a Conservative?
Simple. Cons offer nothing but BS.
Canada has aircraft that can fly off and land on aircraft carriers. The US Navy uses nearly the same aircraft as Canada.
Why would Canada need an aircraft carrier? More bases in the arctic would be much better use of limited defense finds.

Precisely! Canada has no requirement to project airpower in distant waters. Canada is a middle power not a super powewr that’s why Canada needs a brown water navy not a blue water navy.
Once Canada abandoned the mission of convoy protection in the North Atlantic in the 60’s and long range, land based sub-hunters such as the Aurora were developed….carriers lost their relevance. Carriers are an expensive prestige asset.
The Soviets had a brief dalliance with that…then sold the unfinished carriers to China.
Air freight is expensive but then again Polar Class icebreakers don’t come cheap either.
