  1. When chuckwagon horses are involved in a wreck and go down in a tangle (thankfully very rare too) they act the same. Very calm and patient, waiting for their handlers to free them. But they are much smaller than the clydes so probably a lot easier to handle.

  2. Exactly.
We have a local fellow that has Clydesdale horses and I love watching these horses perform their stuff during local summer celebrations.

  3. Looked like the first horse to go down was in the wrong lead. That’s why training horses to use the proper lead is important.

  4. Glossary of terms:
Wheelers: first pair(team) on the tongue….
Swing: next pair with the pole(swing) between them…
Lead swing: same as swing but ahead…
    Lead: think about it!
When ya see these 8 horse hitches in a parade…..note the men walking beside them….
    2 reasons:
    Insurance etc for safety reasons….
To keep the idiots away from the horses……

  5. Yes, speaking of idiots, the off horse of the lead swing team looked like it was in the wrong lead…

  6. This wreck was caused by driver error. The teamster had things under control until he executed the sharp right turn at a high rate of speed. The leaders are almost at a gallop and are turning right fast. The swing team is going with the leaders and if you look at the RH swing horse he is stressed. His head is up and he is unable to keep up. He is being pulled in by the driver who incidentally at that moment is having his arms almost pulled out of the socket by running horses.
The circle gets tighter and tighter and the RH swing horse is trapped, being pulled forward by the leaders, pulled in by the teamster and run over from behind by the point team.
The crew did an outstanding job controlling a potential disaster. Budweiser travels with a huge crew. They are all union members and can only work so many hours and have to have time off even when they are on the road.
My guess is that there are some very sore horses but I’ll bet buddy the driver is going to be looking for work. He didn’t have to pull off a controlled run-a-way and unless something broke the wreck is his fault.
