I cringe every time I hear the term “settled science”. If science was settled the earth would be flat the universe would revolve around Earth, (yes Toronto, you really could be the centre of the universe!), people would be dying from TB, polio, plague, the list is endless. Knowledge is ever evolving and progressing, not standing still.
Perhaps “settled science” in all applicable areas should just be re-labeled “scilence”. Just seems to be the attitude of the left…

Around 1 minute into the video, a pro-science interview, you hear of the use of the precautionary principal by GM opponents: “Worst case scenario”.
OK, I’ll take that on. The worst-case scenario is that we are all dead. But, hey, we will all be dead anyway … so, why not live to the maximum?
Of longevity, health, abundance, fercundity. I am not talking of “Party ’til we drop”.
Back in the early ’90s, I was doing a project funded by Environment Canada and by the time it was completed, checks and congratulatories were passed for the completion of the project. However, the EC project manager was not interested; he was now focused on “climate change”. AKA Global Warming. I think it was the Canadian EC which first developed this term.
There is no such thing as International Law, UN or otherwise!
There are systems of treaties between states that can be broken at will.
There is no international law that can be broken; even the Law of the Sea is only a rule of behavior accepted by sailors, through a history of suffering. But, in international waters, there are no laws. Generally, on-board ship, the laws of the flag of the nation that that ship flies apply. Outside of that little bubble, de nada.
To follow up from my previous post, the only way there could be “International law” is to have a supra-national organism with the military might to impose its will.

So, only leftists don’t use science. Right. I’d agree with you on practically everything, but the right wing is guilty also. The science is fairly well settled on the issue of marijuana, but those on the right who are pro-prohibitionist simply refuse to acknowledge it. They continue to point to the one (1) study showing an increase in propensity for mental illness with people who smoke a lot of pot when teenagers, that this justifies all the harm that is caused by the law. It doesn’t. And they just ignore all the studies showing benefits to pot use. They claim that pot’s addictive (it isn’t) that it’s a gateway drug (because you have to go to your cocaine dealer to buy it) that it causes lung cancer or other diseases (it doesn’t, in fact it has been shown to decrease cancer rates in studies, and of course there are hundreds of thousands of anecdotes of it treating or even curing cancer) it makes the user violent (this isn’t Reefer Madness people!) legalization would make it easier for teens to find (as opposed to now, where it’s available everywhere) and on and on, ad nauseaum. Every single argument from the right is made with (usually) willful ignorance of the science that refutes those claims, and most people know it, and they still come up with the same lying arguments, over and over! Because to admit they are wrong would be to admit that the left is correct, and that’s something most politically minded people just can’t do, admit that they were wrong about something and their political opponents were right. Ignoring science is something that the left is pretty good at, but they don’t have the exclusive rights to it!
