Gawd, but that’s sad reading. I guess if that’s good enough for Rhode Island, it’s good enough for the rest of the country. 16 million more on snap since Obama took office. Creeping up to 50 million. What worries me is that people are going to get too burned out and disillusioned to rise up against Obozo, or is that part of the plan also?

I remember reading an annual report by Walmart’s CEO that also mentioned the phenomenon of shoppers queuing up with full carts and rushing the registers as the clock ticked midnight. Tells you how desperate people are if they’re doing that.

As a resident of Sydney Cape Breton Island for three years, this same thing happens. Without welfare Pogey Disability, the island would empty out. Oh, the 400 million dollar tar ponds leftist slush fund pays for everybody’s desserts.

Here in BC, owners of businesses and especially taxi drivers, call this cheque day for welfare, the last Wed of the month “Christmas”.
Liberal hatred in the comment section of that article is on full display, anyone who points out that perhaps this situation is not ideal for those people is automatically a target for smears while their own solution is to simply make the cheques bigger for recipients.
Liberal haters often seem to be disciples of Jon Stewart’s ‘The Daily Show’ judging by some of the terminology they use and how their attacks consist of superficial and cynical mockery that they seem to believe is ‘critical thinking’, like many progressives they focus on the critical and ignore the thinking. And it’s easy.
If the intrusive left were truly concerned with public obesity, they would reassess the SNAP food subsidy because the majority of that money goes to small grungy corner stores for cheap malt liquor and twinkies.
I owned a convienience store once upon a time, here in B.C. We used to call this welfare Wednesday. Biggest selling items were cigs, lottery tickets, $5 of gas and potato chips! All solid investments in the future, no?
Washington state is above 15%. While some of backwoods Washington isn’t all that wealthy, Seattle looks wealthier than Calgary to me. Paying people to do nothing isn’t going to encourage them to make a better life for themselves, witness eastern Canada. The only assistance underemployed people east of the Ottawa River should get is a bus ticket west. Food stamps don’t come with a plan other than assuring people don’t make enough money to get cut off.
Scar, don’t do that, we find those who move themselves West to be far more employable than those driven here by force.
Seems the folk willing to look for work, will actually do the work.

Toronto, actually. The police in various cities in central Canada put derelicts onto buses, etc., until they end up in Toronto. Toronto is relatively generous, and relatively mild (Ottawa is neither), and the next step, Winnipeg, is a big one.
Of course the tougher ones end up in Vancouver.
As pathetic as this is for both people who have really hit a wall and want to get back up again or for total freeloaders, it cannot last. Obama must know it in the back of his mind. When the gravy train stops, the passengers get restless. Maybe it’s why he wants the guns or the drones; make your own guesses.

Certainly not any different here in McDinkyland, either.
But the multi-millions that are pissed away annually by our welfare recipients is chickenfeed whe compared to what is spent on the welfare industry: those legions upon legions of ‘ologists, counsellors, and experts who leech off the taxpayer in the name of the sick, the addicted, and the useless.
The states and local governments … and the people who elected them are the ones to blame for this situation. Of course if the federal teat was removed from the picture the process of self destruction could be completed.

The two largest employers in RI are the State and Federal governments.
Outside of the Gneral Dynamics Electric Boat division offices there is NOTHING but service industry and retail business.
A virtal wastelend of economic stagnation with virtually zero development.
