  1. I’m claiming it:
Along with BDS and PDS (and HDS?), we now have Ford Derangement Syndrome.

  2. These are the same kind of people who freak out when anyone suggests giving a rope to a lifer!

  3. Except they’re right: Ford is a disaster and his subway fetish is a terrible idea that has even former allies turning on him. Ford should be replaced by one of his righty colleagues after he announces that he’s not running for re-election.

  4. “What seems to be reasserting itself is that characteristic Toronto mix of fiscal conservatism and social progressivism.”
    No such thing.
The ramping costs of social progressivism EAT UP fiscal conservatism.
They cannot exist together, it is a cruel hoax to even suggest it.

  5. Nobody Move! Or the white man gets it!
(cue Libtards dancing…)(even if it’s not violent enough for them)

  6. @LAS – The point isn’t whether Ford’s handling of the transit situation is smart politics or good policy. The point is that NOW would never, ever run a pic like that of a politico who was a liberal. Never. Not only that, NOW would label any publication that did run such a pic as extremist, beyond the pale, violent, misogynist, xenophobic racists (or some such) and they’d run that editorial on the same day they put up this picture of Ford.

  7. NOW is complete lefty crap. Angry lefties writing tripe for other angry lefties. I think most people read it for the hooker ads.

  8. lET’S SEE fORD KICKED some lefties ass and their brains almost went half way to their heads. Should he kick more ass or turn the gun on them SOB’S. It would be easy to turn the gun.

  9. The hypocritical thing about NOW is that it is full of ads for high-priced condos and other hipster bling that is only affordable to the 1%. As well, it has some of the most blatant hooker ads you can get, which makes a mockery of their pro-feminist editorial slant (sorry, not buying the “18” year old FOB is doing this for her PhD.)
And the owner sold the http://www.now.com domain to, um, offshore interests shall we say.

  10. NOW publication, who run that picture is an extremist, beyond the pale, violent, misogynist, hateful group and they should be ashamed that they ran that editorial and this picture of Ford.
Shouldn’t someone from OHRC be looking into this hate speech?

  11. Yes Dooleb, that’s exactly where it’s distributed.
I wonder how they’d feel if the picture featured McGuinty or their hometown favorite sodomite, George Smitherman.

  12. If publications like NOW had to address Ford’s fitness as a mayor (not his physical fitness as a source of mockery, I imagine), they would be drummed out of so-called respectable circles for being too “truthy”. It’s better to run a disgusting picture than lose one’s friends and cool standing.

  13. I pity Ford. I honestly don’t know how he maintains his sanity having to work with so many creeps on council.

  14. LAS: “Ford is a disaster and his subway fetish is a terrible idea …”
It’s pretty clear that LAS doesn’t have to drive either in Toronto or into Toronto every day. Our roads are clogged as it is.
Since 2006, the city’s metropolitan area has grown by 9.2%, to nearly 5.6 million. Toronto is way behind in catching up to this kind of growth: “Toronto remains decades behind where it should be on the transit front.” (National Post, Feb. 9, 2012). University of Toronto political scientist Nelson Wiseman says, “You need senior levels of government to attack [Toronto’s lousy transit system] seriously, and the city should stop playing as if they’re in a sandbox.”
I think Mr. Wiseman’s referring to Toronto’s council members, and might also be referring to Toronto’s ex-moro … I mean … ex-mayor, David Miller — who, BTW, is on the Board of Directors of the David Suzuki Foundation.
Toronto’s been badly let down by its politicians of the past 20 years. I hope that Mayor Ford can step over the snoozing Toronto councilors to get some action going on an adequate subway system in Hogtown. It’s about time.
LAS can take buses and above-ground light-rail transit.

  15. Calgary “saved money” 25 years ago by building the downtown light rail at street level. It’s a giant pain in the ass but, now that its there, burying it would necessitate moving to another steeet and making the downtown a hopeless mess for a couple of years. Checkmate.

  16. “Uncompromising” means Ford doesn’t support the policies that are contrary to his mandate. The Leftards are always “uncompromising” whenever they get power and/or authority.
It’s true that NOW magazine is a rag that promotes nightclubs, hookers and the most Leftarded ideas possible.
But, but, but, I thought the Left hated guns?!

  17. What they are really getting at here is that this guy needs to be shot in the head.
    It’s as simple as that.

  18. This is the same as the “Georgia Straight” here in lala land. They see themselves as very ‘progressive’ and ‘green’ and fill the news and editorial sections with leftist nonsense. But the paper also has page after page of glossy ads for upscale condo developments and high priced restaurants and shops (and then ends it with hundreds of pictures of near naked women in the ‘classified’ section). These people are beyond hypocritical.

  19. How odd that canada has a law that makes incting suicide a crime, we also had Miller’s ban on Guns.
Yet when a lesbian and pro-gay mag like NOW promotes suicide, mocks fat people, and shows youth how to kill thenmselves from bad choices.
The Police use the Homophobia of Lower-Expections for Susan G Cole because the gay community should not be expected to live by the same moral standards as STR8 people.
This explains why Susan G Cole refuses to denounce in public the Honour killings in the Shafia mass-murder of 4 Brown/STR8 females.
Naomi Klein, Libby Davies,Judy Rebbeck, S.G.Cole and other feminists have made a good living demonizing all males (STR8) in canada and have excused away the mass slaughter as “Domestic-Violence”.
They know how dangerous it is to tell the truth about islam and its misogynistic/homophobic/pedophilie prophet that is still exhalted today in Iran where they murder gays in public and hang female adulters, plus sanction pedophilia via their child brides as young as muhammad’s Aisha whom was 9 years old when he was 54.
The Rainbow/feminists yahoos will rue the day they marches with the pro-hamas goons that are using them as the Useful-idiot Leftists that hate the West and Israel.
The islamic supremacy thugs in canada will behead the gays and jews first, so NOW should have really had a photo of Cole with a gun to her head as she wears a hamas Green shirt and wave her Rainbow flag and QuAIA scarf .

  21. GO VOTE at cbc poll q. of the day..it’s a gun question and we are winning! Watch Evan as he looks in stunned disbelief as majority votes YES we have right to protect our property!

  22. do you have a link for that cbc poll? I don’t want to spend an hour on their site trying to find it.

  23. The paper is a joke. You learn to tune it out like downtown traffic noise. Even their movie reviews suck these days, and its bias is so obvious and heavey handed you can’t trust it to provide any salient counter-points to non-leftist ideas.
The funny thing is that NOW and all the other like-minded publications here should be licking Ford’s boots for all the troll-articles and pageviews they’ve squeezed out of him.

  24. By the way, scroll down to the first (currently highest rated) comment attached to the article by Dave Bott. It’s awesome.

  25. Yeah, Dave Bott’s comment made me realize this crappy article was written by Adam Giambrone, the former head of the TTC who resigned in disgrace. This gives even less credibility to the writer who, like a lot of lefty politicians, was caught up in a sex scandal. I’m glad it ended his career prematurely. Good riddance.

  26. NOW should be taken to court for ‘advocating suicide’. Like they’ve done with that Conservative Senator who merely suggested we “give prisoners a rope.”
I f*****g hate Toronto hipsters with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.

  27. Toronto people are so chic and cool and with it and awesome and and, we here in the west live in tarpaper shacks and ride horses to work while Toronto people have papers like the Globe and Star with the headquarters of CBC and CTV, and all we got is,, decent hardworking honest people along with all the resources including the creates resource of all, the one that Ont will never possess,,,brains, this is another example.

  28. And you guys wonder why I tailgate the hell out of SmartCars and Priuses in Toronto. Who do you think is driving those things? NOW mag readers, that’s who.

  29. NOW????? I thought funding for that dyke, lesbo, transgendered, brainless, leftard, fat, ugly white women was cut!
Joe…not everybody here took eng lit as a minor to their basket-weaving course. Bartinsky still make way more sense then you ever will.

Damn….beaten again by the man behind the curtain :):):)

  30. Every they run the same “artist’s conception” clip that shows the LRT running merrily down the middle of the road, zipping past the cars, even though those cars are not stuck in traffic, I want to scream at my television “that’s a lie!!”.
Of course, anyone who lives in Toronto knows what a complete fabrication this is. On the Spadina transit way, it’s not at all unusual to see four street cars piled up behind one another, as the three in the rear wait while the one in front loads/unloads, then the cars move up one, and the next one loads/unloads, etc. Meanwhile, even on crowded Spadina, the cars move more quickly than the street cars. (Of the St. Clair fiasco, the less said, the better.)
Anyone who thinks that carving up existing street capacity (and reducing it, thanks to the pedestrian stands stuck into the roadway) is going to improve traffic flow has rocks in their head. Subways travel more quickly, and necessarily create extra space for traffic.
But the biggest failure by far is the same one Toronto politicians have replicated on every single transit project – not being able to see the obvious. The Yonge subway should have been built to accommodate express trains from the beginning, as should every extension of it. If you had the option of taking an express train from Finch, with stops at Eglinton, Bloor, and Union, you could go from Finch to Union in 20 minutes, instead of the nearly an hour it takes during rush hour today. If the Eglinton cross-town subway was built with express lanes, you could take a train from Scarborough Town Centre to Eglinton station in about 15 minutes. Now, that would entice car drivers onto transit. But everyone is too worried about nickles and dimes to see the big picture. This is why Toronto will never be a great city on the scale of London, Paris, or New York. It’s a parochial capital, run by the small minded, for the tight fisted and the faint of heart.

  31. It’s interesting that “will of parliament” is never employed by the Consensus Media as it relates to Harper’s majority. But on the latest vote RE transit, the same media enforce the vote on city council that went against Ford as supreme and final. Funny that is.

  32. Oz @ 3:39, exactly. OT, but Redford’s budget today proves that. A chicken in every pot. Must be election time soon and buy off the voter is the election plank.
An article by Adam Giambrone, what else would you expect.
That paper is too filthy to even use as a litter box liner.

  33. What is criticism of Ford’s politics all about. He ran as a conservative and got elected . Now is he supposed to vote as a commie? In the past mayors have been better arbitrators because everyone agreed the high taxes and spending were necessary. Ford is running things exactly the way the voters wanted, as a foil to the Reds.

  34. The personal vicious attacks on Mayor Rob Ford from all levels of media have been relentless from day one and they haven’t abated after almost a year and a half in office — they still don’t accept him as the legitimately elected Mayor. Now the Left is trying the same tactics as the Federal Lib/NDP/BQ did with the Harper minority: a Chávez-style coup, Orwellian “contempt of Parliament” accusations (i.e.: “Council is supreme!”), Union-paid Left thugs occupying the council chamber and disrupting proceedings, etc. They haven’t given the man a moment’s rest to get on with his job, especially rags like “Now Magazine” and its editor — “she-always-smells-like-she’s-on-the-rag” — Susan G. Cole.
Well, here’s my suggestion to fellow Torontonians how to lend your support to the important work of editor Susan G. Cole, who also appears on radio doing the equally noble work of attacking “dangerous” conservatives in general:
“Now Magazine” is a free rag, distributed for free across Toronto at self-serve kiosks on the street. The next time you pass a kiosk make sure to pick up a copy — in fact pick up a whole bunch of copies “to distribute for free to my friends and neighbours” (should anyone ask). By the way, if you happen to pass a recycling bin on the way home don’t forget to perform a correct “act of green” and do your part to keep Toronto a clean environment…
    Thank you for your cooperation.

  35. Good idea ricardo. I have been known to have mischievous lapses on occasion and do that sort of thing. I felt guilty afterwards…for about 10 seconds.

  36. LAS, you are completely wrong. The majority of commuters want the transit system expanded. Most of those don’t care if it’s subways or streetcars. But the majority of drivers and businesses DON’T want any more streetcars, they want subways! Streetcars will NOT work to solve Toronto’s transit woes, they will simply snarl up traffic even more. They will also ruin business districts. Subways, on the other hand, clear up traffic by removing bus and streetcar traffic. They also develop new business areas. Ford has it right.

  38. I share Ricardo’s opinion. Destroy NOW whenever you come accross it. I like to rip the covers off of Adbusters magazines. Ever since they took up the cause of trying to destroy our way of life I figure turnabout is fair play. They want to advocate civil disobedience and vandalism of private and public property to further the Occupy agenda? Fine. I will destroy their magazine on the store shelf. F**K with us and I’ll f**k with you. Enough people doing this will eat up whatever profit they got on top of the subsidies I’m sure they get from the government.
