  1. One thing about Pierre Trudeau, he thought that the
media were trash and he used them that way. His snarl of contempt in the encounter where he said,
“just watch me” is beautiful to behold. And multiculti wasn’t a bad defence against biculturalism, which was being propagandised for all it was worth at that time, and which seemed much the greater monster.

  2. Remember how assorted female journalists admitted having sexual fantasies about Barack Obama after the 2008 election? Not too difficult to figure what Lawrence Martin was dreaming about after Trudeau’s 1968 victory.

  3. “With his Charter of Rights and Freedoms, he liberated us from the authority of the state.”
Almost gagged when I read that, but SO many of the alleged intelligentsia believe that.
Apparently they can’t see that is has been and will continue to be a tool of the State for suppression of anything the State considers unfavourable at the moment.

  4. And let us not forget Turdough and his Nazi and Commie (Castro, etal) love affairs. And we buried this traitorous SOB on Canadian soil??

  5. I happened to be on an Ottawa street when the hearse carrying the body of Lester B. Pearson was passing by. His honourary pallbearers were walking beside the hearse, one of them, Pierre Elliot Trudeau: what a pipsqueak.
The only reason I mention this is because I couldn’t stand the guy to begin with — I was only in my early twenties, so my utter dislike of him must have had something to do with my guardian angel, who I then had no idea was hanging around — and seeing his miniscule stature somehow mirrored how I felt about his moral, ethical, and political stature.
Trudeau was not, as Larry Martin asserts, original, possessing “intellectual electricity” or “star-power charisma,” nor did he have an ounce of independence in his mind. His ideas about life and government were completely congruent with those of my fellow, twentysomething hippies — about as conformist as you can get.
He was a media darling, but that was because his ideas completely dovetailed with their juvenile, “progressive,” leftist — and entitled — views. Many of the ’70s journalists, like today, come from affluent backgrounds but like to slum with “the people” — then retreat to their private-school enclaves with all of the advantages this privilege entails. That was Trudeau. No wonder they thought he was some kind of guru: narcissism pure and simple.
Trudeau was no guru. He was as predictable as a Big Mac Meal: all image, no value.
I don’t quite know what Lawrence Martin’s problem is, except that he’s an idiot, obviously stuck on stupid, not to mention stuck in a time warp. He obviously doesn’t have the guardian angel I do. Rather, he might have a guardian devil hanging around, which might explain his hero-worship of teeny-tiny trudeau.

  6. Under the canadian dictionary’s definition of “hack” there is a picture of Lawrence Martin.

  7. batb, I gotta agree with your assessment of both Trudeau and Larry Martin.
Martin’s adulation of Trudeau had to have come from a personal connection beyond mere mortals and far from reality.
This country has a way to go to deal with Trudeau’s handiwork like his Charter, giving powers to unelected SC judges whose decisions can make some more equal than others.

  8. You’ve got it batb!
That’s why I cringed from the moment I saw him on TV.
And I knew there was something seriously wrong when my RC convert cousin and her husband, who happened top be staying at the same hotel when he first arrived on the scene in Toronto, went into raptures every time his name was mentioned. I expect at the hotel as he passed by, they genuflected.
Same reaction people will have to the anti-christ.
As some on here regularly say: not dead enough.

“What happened next was an interesting departure from the normal protocol. Instead of preceding his wife down the ramp to shake Premier Chou’s hand, the Prime Minister descended the steps at the side of his wife and the two of them remained at each other’s side throughout the ceremonies that followed. The gesture was most obvious when the dignitaries moved on from the handshakes to the playing of the national anthems.”

20 Oct 2004 – Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau’s visit to China got off to an unusually brisk start yesterday, with Mr. Trudeau moving swiftly from the elaborate …”

  10. Yeah Larry, Jesus flipped the bird to the Jews don’t ya know.
I like Trudeau’s big fib story of how he hung a frying pan on a low branch during a canoe trip and came back years later to find it had grown “up” out of reach.
Why even lie about something like that?
    Not dead enough.

  11. What is it with the wet panty leftists and their deification of political hacks. Every time they elevate a pol to godhood status their idol tumbles to the ground and shatters into a million pieces. Stalin, Hitler, Trudeau, Obambam….

  12. PET was neither crucified nor did he rise from the dead.
Martin Lawrence suffers from the logical error known as false analogy.
Thankfully there was only one JC, and I may add PET would have some distance to make up in the comparison.
Cut the deification, it only reminds one of Caesar; “First amoung equals”!!

  13. ∞ ≠ ø, I sincerely appreciate your compliment on my comment. I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m not, however, a “sir”!!
Revnant Dream, what does “batb *****” mean? I’m intrigued!

  14. I posted this at noon today about ‘bama:
“Saw a movie years and years ago with Peter Sellers that reminds me of ‘bama and his sycophants. Sellers played the role of a simple grounds-keeper (and I mean simple) who acquired a retinue of elitist idiots who convinced themselves he was a messaianic genius.”
Feel free to substitute Trudeau for ‘bama.

  15. How is Lawrence Martin writing for anything at all and not committed to a mental ward?

  16. bocanut: “Was LM on the same 60’s canoe trip with Craggy Owliver and Buckskin Pierre?”
I’m sure he wishes he were.
Trudeau’s fringed buckskin jacket was such a hokey prop, just like the canoe trip.

  17. Larry boy is displaying the usual liberal establishment prejudices. They are soon to pass and lament the fact.

  18. I will NEVER understand the left giving PET a pass on the black eye he gave Maggie…… I guess you can punch your wife if you drive motorcycles, wearing Nazi helmets while giving the finger to the establishment and make up laws to suit yourself as you go along…holy crap I just described the average Hells Angels member……

  19. Bill of Rights – Conservative – 1960
Hospital Insurance and Diagnostic Services Act – funded 50% of the cost of programs for any provincial government that adopted them – Conservative – 1957
So it was the damn Conservatives who led us down the path of socialism while the Liberals claimed all the credit.

  20. “Then came this phenom with a roman cut, sandals and an air of Jesus Christ. Pierre Trudeau combined intellectual electricity, star-power charisma, and a contrarian’s independent mind.”
Doesn’t anyone read their Bibles anymore? “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain…”
Comparing Jesus to Trudeau. Someone’s going to hell.

  21. Poor pathetic, delisional, crazy Larry Martin. Trudeau was about as conformist as one could get, just ask the jesuit brothers who indoctrinated and radicalized Turdo at a young age. Trudeau was a radical Canada hater, anti-semite, history denier, revolutionary extremist, and a homosexual activist that longed for a french speaking, catholic only State, while he systematically dismantled Canada’s British heritage and cast the nation adrift, and estranged the populace from it’s institutions, traditions and history. Pierre’s Charter is an undemocratic, seriously flawed and warped instrument of manipulation that usurps the power of the Commons and hands it to unelected, activist judges and imprisons the nation in an ideological straight jacket more akin to a cult then a country. Poor, pathetic, crazy Larry sounds like a deranged mental patient that is need of some serious deprogramming and heavy doses of medication. Lay off the bottle Larry, destroying a country, plunging it into irresponsible, unsustainable debt and remaking it in you’re own image is not a sign of greatness.

  22. Amazing that anyone could hold any positive views about Turdeau in 2011. I was a hippy when Turdeaumania was happening, but a very anti-communist hippy and remember getting into many arguments with people about Turdeau’s communist views. These seem to have been ignored by the Canadian populace.
I sent him a letter at the time he was coming up with that POS known as the Canadian Constitution informing him that he could save a great deal of time and money by simply borrowing the US constitution which seemed to be working just fine south of us. Never got a reply to my letter.

  23. Yes, batb get a full five stars for a well said comment.
What Joe, Osumashi and Loki said.
Tired from shopping today, so will comment on the cheap. Lawrence Martin is a died in the wool extreme leftist.

  24. “holy crap I just described the average Hells Angels member….”
The Hell’s Angels never did Canada anywhere near as much harm as Pierre.

  25. Met,and shook hands with PET in CFB Chatham N.B, 1968.
    Lasting first impression?
Even as a thirteen year old, I thought his teeth were very yellow.

  26. Only a complete and total moron would claim that, “With his Charter of Rights and Freedoms, [Trudeau] liberated us from the authority of the state.”
But then again, I’ve been aware of Lawrence Martin since the 1980s at least, so moronity is a pretty good explanation for the quote.
The Charter of Rights has a couple of dozen errors in it, that need to be fixed in order to “liberate us from the authority of the state”.
Case in point: the legal rights section, s.11, states that a person charged with an offence has the right to a fair trial within a reasonable time, to be considered innocent until proven guilty, and not to self-incriminate, among other things. However, those dragged before human rights commissions are not considered “charged with an offence”, so the legal safeguards against state action don’t apply. You can find the Blencoe ruling from the Supreme Court of Canada in the year 2000 for the gory details. In my opinion, the wording of s.11 was deliberately designed to destroy justice.

The only thing I will give Trudeau any grudging respect for is his contempt of the media and the way he made them dance to his tune.
The list of other Canadian politicians who had that figured out is short indeed: Mike Harris could do it, and so could Rene Levesque, but that’s about it. And I disagree with the rest of your post.
Trudeau’s ‘call in the army’ reaction to the FLQ has been held up as an example of bravery and fortitude – part of the Trudeau myth. It was anything but.
When the FLQ cowards were killing innocent civilians Trudeau did nothing. It was only when diplomats and cabinet ministers (members of his ivory tower set) were kidnapped that his sphincter puckered and he called in the troops. He was scared s***less that he might be next on the list.
And to suggest that multi-culturalism was a Trudeau invention to counter the excesses of bilingualism breaks the credulity cord before it is even stretched.

  28. Trying to get the throw-up taste from my mouth after tying to read that claptrap.
Kudos to batb for the excellent comment. Bravo, ma’am.

  29. Grey Lady @8:49 – I never heard of that! They really do cover up for their favorites, don’t they?
