102 Replies to “Pure class”

  1. @ 2.50 in Martin’s spiel, he refers to “pleading the fifth” … that sounds like an american concept to me.
I bet he doesn’t speak to Jason Kenney like that. …

  2. A great argument for cutting government programs. We don’t need no circus with clowns like Pat Martin.

  3. Martins is frustrated because escort services don’t offer him discounts. One possible reason, may be he is always going off some where else, before he’s finished..

  4. Maurice Strong created CIDA. This from his own website, the Short Biography Page.. Pearson invited him to come into the government as a Deputy Minister with responsibility for what was then External Aid, and which, under his leadership, eventually became the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). His work at CIDA enabled him to return to the United Nations as a Canadian delegate, in which role he established close ties, particularly with its Development Programme.

  5. Can you imagine what he would be like if the NDP were in power. Lenin’s Head Layton and his Tribunals would be ruthless beyond belief. A true Pompous A*s. Hopefully this run’s lots in his riding to show those who voted for him, what he really is like.

  6. ‘Watched this yesterday at Blue Like You. Absolutely the most disgraceful performance I’ve ever seen by a Canadian politician — and there’ve been a few.
Martin acted like a swaggeringly arrogant dictator, like the committee was all his. Despite the chairman’s admonitions to Martin to allow those he was questioning to answer without his constant interruptions, Martin appeared to think that he called the shots. At one point, he demanded that Minister Oda answer his question and keep to the point after his own, rambling peregrinations, which included a number of extremely disrespectful and boorish non-sequiturs (like the comment on Oda’s not being able to take the 5th: sheer bunk).
This guy is one no-class act and is first in line for some hubris. His behaviour was unparliamentary and uncivilized. He should be disciplined. No MP should be able to put on a disgraceful display like Pat Martin’s and get away with it. He’s dragged the whole process through the mud and has shown contempt for not only Bev Oda and the CPC but for Parliament.
And, BTW, where’s Jack Layton? Where’s Olivia Chow, on the anti-women rants Pat Martin engaged in on this committee? Not a word signals consent, so I guess they’re OK with it. As per usual with this bunch, it’s rights and freedoms for me but not for thee — especially if you’re a CPC thee.

  7. Layton is the leader of the Dippers, he must be OK with the outrageous and out of control behaviour of Martin because he hasn’t bothered to distance himself from it or rein him in.
So much for the NDP holier than thou approach to respect for women and civility the way he treated Minister Oda. He’s a disgrace to Parliament.

  8. I think that the clip should be played in his riding before any presentation by him is given. Then have him to try and show a positive thing about himself. If his supporters then vote him back into Paralament, then there is a problem in Canada. He would be great example of those who work for the Human Rights Comission – truth and ideas expressed do not matter – you are guilty by association.
The Cons did make some mistakes, true. Yet, this is not as bad as the opposition wants Canadians to believe. They are grasping at straws to try and destroy a government, on the whole, has Canadians best intrests at heart.

  9. The Minister would have scored huge points if she had simply asked Martin if he talked to male politicians in the same manner.

  10. From the link:
“Some public servant heads should be clued in, they gat paid with our tav dollars and should be accountable to us, the givers of funds.”
Assuming that word salad means “public servants should be held accountable,” grilling Oda on her blatant and repeated lies counts, no?
I like that the video bashes Martin for using common figures of speech. He said “tribunal”! Why, that’s a common term that could also, if you were an idiot, include witch trials! How rude!
He didn’t allow her to not answer questions! How anti-feminist!
This wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that you are trying to defend the indefensible (ie, Oda), is it?

  11. Martin is the classic lefty bully. They belong to useless, irrelevant discredited political party which will never see power nationally and they resent it. Occasionally they get a chance to vent.
And they really like it when the target is a woman, since they consider themselves experts on feminism, so nothing they say can be criticized. You can always tell these self-righteous pukes – they’re the first to begin lecturing about those rights.

  12. This is all good, that Pat Martin is stupid and belongs to the ndp. I would have let the idiot go on.

  13. Oda has class, Martin doesn’t. Frankly I’d of told him to sod off, and verbally abusing a fellow MPs should be dealth with as a contempt charge. Second wasn’t Jack lecturing the rest of us on decorum and civility and making parliment work, once again the left’s hypocrisy is exposed and MSM sleeps on.

  14. I would have liked to have seen Oda stand up for herself a little more, and keep on with her answers, stoicly, if only to help the Boor stroke out from his self-inflicted frustration.
Not much to say about the chairman either, he was far, far too tolerant of that classless debate behaviour of cutting off your opponent endlessly. That is where Herr Martin should have been sharply rebuked, if only to ‘run out his clock’ due to his demeaning tactics.
Lizard May is infamous for this tactic too.

  15. Pat Martin is famous for attacking women. He did it to Candice Hophner on CBC also. Good thing he wasn’t in the studio or he may have attacked her physically. The steam coming out of his nose almost blew his head off.
Where are those womens groups who condem this type of behaviour? MIA.Where’s Olivia Chow? Guess when its not one of their own, it doesn’t matter so much. Hypocrites indeed.

  16. No surprise. Pat Martin comes from the “when did you stop beating your wife” school of questioning.
Why anyone in the media gives him an ounce of credibility is beyond me, except for sideshow value, along with the dog faced boy.

  17. “Pat Martin is stupid and belongs to the ndp.”
    “the idiot”
    “Herr Martin”
    “self-righteous pukes”
    “Lizard May”
Now that we’ve established there is no rule here about respecting public servants simply because they are public servants, and that the Tories are notorious for intentionally disrupting committees, can we get some actual examples of where Martin crossed the line from typical grandstanding to anti-feminist assholery?
    Anything? One example?
    Yet again, oops:

  18. comrade martin & i dont use that term lightly because this is a typical communist tactic he is emploring, was on CBC politics a few wks ago yelling & screaming at Candice Hoepner & the moderater allowed it
I think you can find that on youtube
Anyways if anyone is in Contempt of Parliment it is Pat Martin & the whole of the opposition.
This country is in a bad need of a Majority Conservative Govt to put an end to these Kangaroo Courts & constant Bill Blocking and i think this country is awakening to this fact.
Do i want an Election? No
Do we need an Election? Yes
And i say that because so many are getting so sick & tired of this type of crap of constant disruptions by the opposition at every turn And this will not end as the Left’s way of life being threatened for fear they will lose As in the Toronto Mayorial race the attacks on Ford to try & stop him for fear of their Gravy Train wreck happening.

  19. I am ashamed that Pat Martin represents Winnipeg Manitoba. He actually lives on Saltsprings Island.
Time for Winnipeg to send Pat Martin a message!

  20. Looks like Nathan is not getting the point or maybe he does and believes its proper to bully the fairer sex.
Martin finds it easy to talk that way to a woman that he perceives to be weak and defenseless. Indeed he would never talk that way to John Baird. The little coward would turn tail and run.

  21. different bob: Since I assume you were being ironic in using a term like “fairer sex,” I’ll let that pass.
You still haven’t pointed out any example of Martin picking on “a woman” because she was a woman. I saw him grandstanding at a committee in the face of a minister who has repeatedly lied.
If committee grandstanding is a marxist crime, then what do you say of the many, many Tories who have done worse?
The “point” you are struggling to make is that Martin should have gone easy on Oda because she is a woman. Nope, nothing sexist about that…
Since he has now been called a communist, an idiot, a Nazi, a puke, and an idiot on this very thread, does that mean rude behaviour is only okay if you are a man, or only if you are part of the NDP?

  22. Hey Nathan; the bottom line about this issue is BEV ODA WAS TRYING TO SAVE THE TAXPAYERS MONEY. Understand that. Might find that comforting there basement boy, more money to stay in Canada instead of some tranvestite church or whatever.

  23. Dear Nathan,
You seem like a very serious intellect. So I feel the need to explain the point of this post and why it is sharp: rude, aggressive, threatening, boorish, racist, and insulting behaviour is only acceptable if you are a leftist progressive.
Sir, I wish you continued good luck with your literary reviews at the Toronto Star.
    You’re welcome.

  24. Martin’s routine is wearing a little thin. He is certainly no credit to the NDP. All Martin’s antics and foul language do is turn a lot of people away. I suppose you can put lipstick and a suit on him, but he certainly betrays his background every time he opens his mouth. Someone tell him the 1920’s union leader schtick died with vaudeville.

  25. Hey Nathan get back to work…
Stop wasting my tax dollars, surfing the net, at your over-paid, under-worked government job.
Disappear now ..your supervisor is comming!

  26. Holy jeeez. He’s got the same affected mannerisms as Layton. These guys go to a school or something?

  27. Hey rzr,
    Thanks for the good wishes!
Since you took the time to find out who I am, maybe you could also follow some of the links I submitted, which offer just a few examples of Tories acting boorish and rude in committee hearings. (I have more if you want them…)
I think I have already noted that Martin was grandstanding and maybe being boorish. Feel free to point out where he was also being “threatening” or “racist.”
Also, please explain how Martin represents “the left” or “leftists progressives.”
(And Bartinsky: I don’t even know what you are getting at there, but it sure sounds vaguely insulting and bigoted. Remember: only the left does that.)

  28. What I love about SDA threads is the piercing self-awareness.
ie, “He was uncivil, that Nazi communist puke who practices guilt by association! And anyone who disagrees is a lazy shithead who probably works for the government (unlike, um, Bev Oda…)!!!”

  29. Nathan, let me help you with this one…
Also, please explain how Martin represents “the left” or “leftists progressives.”
He’s a Member of Parliament representing the New Democratic Party.
    I’m glad I could help.

  30. Thanks, The Greek. As a member of the mushy left, I really wish that were true (that the NDP represented progressives), but sadly, being an NDP MP does not make one the spokesperson for the left, anymore than, say, Cheryl Gallant speaks for all the right.

  31. Seriously? That’s it? Not even an attempt to defend this one? Just personal attacks, accusations of trolling, and “guilt by association”?
    Sounds pretty lefty to me.

  32. EBD That video now resides on a CBC thread on contempt of Parliament. Excuse me while I go chuckle.

  33. at the end of the day a cabinet minister has the right nay the obligation to overrule any decision an unelected body such as cida makes….parliament is supreme…power to the people!
as for that soiled specimen that hideous left wing biased example of what is not to like about ngos….that kairos?…
    pfui!

  34. Dear Nathan,
Thank you for your civilized correspondence. Unfortunately, recent events have shown that other, less grammatical, persons have not followed our example. Many of these items, as I’m sure most SDA readers would agree, stem from conservative circles. But, despite their opponents’ claim to be on the moral “high” (i.e., progressive) road, many are not. This, I’m afraid, is the “crux” of the matter and where you may not be, as the Irish say, “getting the joke.” I’d be happy to explain it, but this would, as we all know, mean ruining it: a veritable Catch-22, if you will.
Whatever the case, I wish you all the best in your search.

  35. I submit Martin is a racist and a bully . Martin’s true feelings towards people of colour were exposed for all Canada to witness when he belittled, disrespected and tried to humiliate Bev Oda.

  36. Dear God, I wouldn’t let my dog pee on the leg of that anal orifice. The chair needs a mute switch to shut him up.
Someone needs to ask that pr1ck “Yes or no, do you still beat your wife and kids?” What an arrogant smarmy condescending waste of flesh.
    Done venting.

  37. Over the past few years, Martin has shown increasing frustration, impatience and sarcasm in all his exchanges. He’s turned into a snarling old dog. He has lost his way. Instead of listening, he lashes out at anyone he disagrees with. He no longer shows respect for the office of a Minister. He doesn’t know his place anymore. Time for him to pack his Ottawa kit bag, go home and write his memoirs.

  38. What I love about SDA threads is the piercing self-awareness.
ie, “He was uncivil, that Nazi communist puke who practices guilt by association! And anyone who disagrees is a lazy shithead who probably works for the government (unlike, um, Bev Oda…)!!!”

Just keeps you coming back for more, eh?

  39. Martin is so well suited to the angry failures that make up the NDP . . . they just can’t stomach that some people become more successful than others and their resentment that we are all not,in fact, equal is too much for their pinheads to bear.
So they lash out like moronic two year old’s throwing a temper tantrum in the cookie isle when mummy says no.

  40. Thanks again, rzr. And since you are struggling to convince yourself that SDA’s commenters are not revealing a spectacular lack of self-awareness, but rather demonstrating wicked, Wildeian wit and a delicious sense of irony, let me wish you good luck, too, as you will definitely need it.

  41. Maybe my perspective of rude workplace behavior and bullying is substantially different but I didn’t find this to be unacceptably harsh questioning. Oda and the committee chair were rightfully frustrated with Martins boorishness but “abusive” should be reserved for genuinely abusive situations, IMO.
As to the NOT scandal itself…whatever. If you don’t like this particular media driven scandal then wait a month for the next one. Personally, I’d like to see every conservative cabinet minister be given a big ol’ NOT stamp on their first day on the job. There should be a monthly quota on use of the NOT stamp. Yearly performance bonuses should be dependent on the frequency of use of the NOT stamp. Any NOTs that prevents frivolous spending of taxpayers money on useless programs, regulations and NGOs should be encouraged. Instead of a Tea Party maybe Canada needs a Not Party.
    Universal Daycare – NOT
    Arena in Quebec – NOT
    Carbon Taxes – NOT

  42. There really should be a warning label put on some movies about the dangers of watching them to many times – like on the old Al Pacino lawyer flicks.

  43. Martin’s a fifty something with no ring on his finger.
Is he married or does he prefer pitching or catching?
Either way, if he ain’t married, it explains his demeanour.

  44. “What I love about SDA threads is the piercing self-awareness.”
    Thank you.
Yes we’re very aware that over piercing of ones body makes you look like a freak and is a sign of mental instability, thus all the pin cushion be-tatted losers at the dipper drum trances, er uhm, official party meetings.

  45. “What I love about SDA threads is the piercing self-awareness.”
9 posts and counting on one topic is not love, it is obsession.
Seriously though, what this country needs is an opposition that is co-operative and genuinely interested in the well-being of Canadians. The current collection of separatists, socialists and thieves is only interested in creating mayhem and disruption, attempting to embarrass the government at every opportunity and gaining power at any cost.
A prime example is the interview by Ralph Goodale yesterday. He made a few snide comments about family, corporate tax cuts, jets and pension reform. It didn’t take a political scientist to deduce that the Liberals were going to vote against the upcoming budget regardless of what it contained.
