29 Replies to “FSIN Wants Long Gun Registry Exemption”

1. This ought to work well. First Nations have demonstrated an excellent record as guardians of our nation’s supply of cigarettes.
But hey.. cigarettes never killed anyone, right?

2. If giving exemptions to high risk groups is fine, – why not give exemptions to proven zero risk groups?
I havew 6 generations of armed Canadians in my family (many with military arms training) and a family record of Zero arrests for gun related crimes – Where the F is my “exemption”?

3. Oh good, we will get to see another round of which PC group trumps the other test case – first nations vs. gun control. Will “public safety” concerns extend to native reserves, places with one of the highest violent crime rates in Canada?
Who am I kidding, the issue will be barely acknowledged by the MSM and ,once again, the courts will rule that natives have special rights.

4. Well if they somehow manage to catch you with a load of cigarettes and guns they are all for personal use right? If you are registered there could be some problems. You may be asked where the extra 10 guns came from.

5. Is that demand ‘racist”? Is the Chief saying that only non reservation citizens are criminals and dangers to all Canadian citizens? Sounds pretty ‘inflammatory’ to me. I think I saw this guy on CPAC last night – he looked like a regular Canadian, he should be doing what the majority of Canadians are doing: demanding that that useless, fear mongering, $$$ eating, Communist inspired gun registry be shredded. Is he another ‘useful idiot”?

6.
I hope they get an exemption
That is one right that the Treaties can prove.. The fundamental HBC/NWT trading coin was a Rifle & blanket & stuff.(Smokes)…
If we Idiots don’t stand up for our rights why should the Indians surrender tradition, two wrongs don’t make a right, the Indians problem does not go away without proper input side policy…Guns are a stupid band-aid
The Marxist Tribunial needs a beating, why not the Indians.. GO INDIANS

7. Philip G. Shaw, if they have a “Treaty Right” to holding unregistered guns, by way of race… I can see the entire facade tumbling down shortly thereafter. and I’m fine with that.
I only know of the year round right to hunt and fish, based on race / treaty right. Why not expand it? Will a jury court someday decide that what a hunter has done is outside the realm of parliament?
(calling Dr. Morgentaler?)

8. If we’re talking traditional rights, it should be with bows and arrows, not firearms! That said, the “exemption” should extend to anyone who does not have a criminal record or a history of mental instability. Then we won’t need the registry, period!

9. The natives here in Sask. have basically thumbed their noses at all the anti-smoking restrictions put in place by politicians in response to the incessant hounding by the anti-smoking lobby.
Sure, there was some initial whining and griping from the zealots but that died down rather quickly when they came to the realization that the natives had no intention of toeing the anti-smoking line.
Same with the long gun registry. They don’t need an exemption … they will simply ignore it. More often than not, native politicians show more common sense and courage than do their white counterparts.

10. This is gonna be fun watching jacko & Iggy fishtailing themselves outa this one.
Regardless of the answer, there’s gonna be poopy smeared on them… LOL

11. Nothing new…double standard for fishing, hunting, cigs, taxes, and schooling.
Why not the guns?
beagle in 3,2,1… calling us racist…for noticing the difference.
BTW…I thought it was the Kyoto accord written on the napkin?

12. ridiculous…they are fine with supporting gun-registry-loving Liberals and NDP almost exclusively then they should be absolutely fine with having said registry intrude on their lives as well.
Can’t have it both ways….oh wait…some people do have more “rights” than the rest of us, it seems…

13. Liberals already have a ready made excuse, Turdeau put it right in his charter,
some “ARE” more equal than others.!
It won’t be long before we’re buying our (taxfree) gas at the reserve, like we do our cigarettes now.!

14. Stan
George Jonas comes up with some really good columns and quatable quotes.
“If someone could persuade criminals and lunatics to obey gun control, it would be a splendid idea. As long as only law-abiding citizens obey it, it amounts to countering stray cats by neutering vets: Showy, but not very useful.”

15. I hope the FSIN takes it to the Supreme Court. If only the majority of them would quite voting for the NDPs and Liberals. Although to be fair, a number of them did vote for the Conservative in one riding in Sask. and in BC.

16. I have no problem with exempting Indians from not registering any “Native: firarm, (ie; one manufactured before contact with europeans). You would think a “nation” would have had this capacity.
Oh wait……
White man’s tools, white man’s rules.

17. I heard his interview on CBC. He qept dodging the questons and repeating that his people need their guns to maintain their way of life. Now I’m not an expert, but how does registering a gun make it un-usable for hunting? Or was he suggesting that all natives commit crimes and thus have their guns seized?

18. Dirtman and The Viggen
I realize that your posts are sophistry not lack of comprehension.
It has been proven beyond doubt that registration of firearms has one and only one purpose—as a precursor for confiscation. This what occurred in the UK and OZ. It has not occurred in Canada because such a vast number of firearms are unregistered and abroad. Confiscating at this point would be a massive fail—-no totalitarian Police State is possible with a signifigant element of armed citizens.
I suggest you two “useful idiots” study a bit of history—-Cromwell’s Commonwealth, the French and Russian Revolutions—-useful idiots are promptly disposed of…early on…they do not become leaders of the new regime but rather it’s early victims.

19. I’m sorry, I forgot the Sarc/ tags. There are two issues here, Indians obeying federal law, which was the point of my post, and confiscation. I lost my Valmet in ’98 to the feds, and I only keep my Aug, because it’s in the United States. Confiscation is already here, the CSSA has numerous examples. (I also missed an ‘e’, but I’d had a rather indifferent bottle of Merlot).
Cheers,

20. Hey, shouldn’t the FSIN guys be bow hunting? I mean, traditional practices and all that, right?
/sarc
The /sarc tag is in case anybody should think I’m serious. Like anybody on the reserves ever registered anything in the first place, bwaha! That’s a funny one!
In Caledonia the Mohawk Smuggling Association has full-auto AKs. We know that because one of them aired-out an apparently non-regulation smoke shack with a full-auto AK a couple years ago. An Indian kid got shot by another Indian kid with an AK at a different smoke shack as well. “Alcohol was reportedly involved” in that one.
Full-auto AK registered? Probably not, given that they are super duper “double secret probation” not-to-have double-plus ungood assault weapons o’ death and banned since Kim Campbell’s days.
Just sayin’.
Viggen, you had a Valmet seized? I feel your pain buddy. Those things are -awesome-.

21. Dirtman,
Use a little simple logic…If the Gun Register has such an insignificant impact (liberal NDP & MSM argument).. Why would the democratic Gov (Liberal, NDP, MSM) deem the appropriate penalty to be criminal…A responsible Gov does not threaten to make criminals of citizens they “respect”…. (note.. Long Form)
The relationsahip of the Penalty to the Crime is fundemental. English law has long rejected the concept that cutting of a hand is a just punishment for stealing a loaf of bread
The Indian does not think his Gun will shoot better if registered. When the BS nits try to reason with them…, they just pretend they don’t understand…
Ever try to communicate BS to someone who refuses to understand…
JMHO

22. Valmet M-76 in .308, with a folding stock. 1400$ new, I only ever had 1 magazine for it. It was restricted, but I took it hunting anyway. I moved to the U.S. (St Louis) and I should have taken it with me, but I was stupid. I still maintain storage down there where I keep a few things. I will NEVER, EVER forgive the libs for that.

23. I’m starting to really like the natives. They don’t like the federal government, they don’t pay taxes, and they don’t want to register their guns. Their like rednecks.
