Ethnic group, fighting for the right to use the school curriculum to target another ethnic group, is targeted, cries foul:
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has signed a bill targeting a school district’s ethnic studies program, hours after a report by United Nations human rights experts condemned the measure.
The Governor’s bill, which is intended to apply the brakes to a public school curriculum that has up until now taught Latinos that they are oppressed by whitey, will “(prohibit) classes that advocate ethnic solidarity (and) promote resentment toward a certain ethnic group,” although it “will not prohibit classes that teach…the history of a particular ethnic group, as long as the course is open to all students and doesn’t promote ethnic solidarity or resentment.” As Gov. Brewer’s spokesman, the rather aptly-named Paul Senseman, explains:
“The governor believes … public school students should be taught to treat and value each other as individuals and not be taught to resent or hate other races or classes of people.”
Well, that sounds good, but what if one’s cultural heritage, at this late stage, consists of a big ball of resentment toward, and hatred against, a targeted group – whitey, in this case?
Six UN human rights experts (said) all people have the right to learn about their own cultural and linguistic heritage…
And so we grow.
The UN has yet to clarify whether the right of “all people” to teach their cultural and linguistic heritage extends to, say, the Confederate Redneck Peoples of the deep South.
I am sure Gov. Jan Brewer was not what John Fogerty had in mind when he wrote “Gunslinger” (on the Revival album), but it sure seems to fit.

The end result of teaching immigrants that they should not assimilate, which is a good deal of what the now-banned classes have done, is to lower their expected economic status, and, therefore, their freedom, because, like it or not, a good deal of freedom is dependent on wealth, and always will be.

To me, the main problem is that the time wasted learning ethnic studies could be put to better use. How about learning real academics, sports or even a constructive hobby? In one of the towns I lived in many of native kids in elementary school would be better served using free time for a nap, a decent meal and extra tutoring. Instead of focusing time and money on paths that lead to success, the left wastes energy on paths that lead to failure. How does ethnic studies/grievance mongering help those that really need education and training to help them escape poverty?

This has been discussed here recently, and I believe the verdict is: to do anything else is political suicide.
Solution: if you’re a white guy and you want to make a difference, get the F out of the way. We are at the point in history where we(white guys) must leave the majority(everyone else) to their own devices and to learn from their own mistakes. THEY DON’T WANT OUR HELP, OR OPINIONS.( I’ve been flamed here for this opinion from some notable commenter’s, but I’ve seen nothing in reality to sway my view)
I believe the core of the issue is this, a large swath of visible minorities including women(oxymoron) would rather “go to hell” than take “whitey’s” hand-up and “go to prosperity”. I repeat, it’s not that the aforementioned minorities don’t want prosperity, they simply don’t want to be led by “whitey” to it.
So there you have it! Whitey typically supports common sense policy (like sound fiscal management); therefore, the rest of the folks will support loony policies based solely on their CORE belief that whitey is the devil. Furthermore, since whitey doesn’t have this “chip on the shoulder” and can support commonsense policy, common sense policy becomes racist policy because of the way the demographics pan out.
Mark my words, if whitey was prone to socialism, then visible minorities would be rioting in the streets demanding capitalism.
I find the whole mess very sad.
I just returned last night from a trip to many different south Pacific countries. How do I tell my friends in these places that the so called elite in North America promotes racism?
They want to come to North America because they rightfully believe this is a better place. Folks do not come here to join anti- white crusades nor some warped view that all cultures are equal.
My next trip will be to India to visit for a month or two with close personal friends. They know without doubt that I am not racist just because I am white. We do not need to respond to militants of any persuasion, from any source.
The gift of life we have been given should not be wasted creating hatred and anger. The time is long over due when Canadians and all humankind should set aside the views of Trudeau and Anderson Cooper and join the human race.

After all, the constitution is based on the premise that all men are ‘free and equal’. But ethnic studies programs is based on the premise that men are not free individuals but members of an identifiable and even hereditary collective, a group.
These groups, moreover, are deemed by ethnic studies pontificates as most decidedly not equal in morals, emotional purity, intellectual idealism and other such values. The evaluation of these groups is not in terms of measurable intellectual or scientific accomplishments, it must be noted, but in terms of qualitative attributes that cannot be measured or evaluated other than by the tenacity of opinion.

And there is the achilles heel. “Open to all” is a theoretical construct; only ethnics will enrol in their specific ethnic studies subject.
As others have suggested there is absolutely no sound ethical/pedalogical basis for including such “studies” in the public school curriculum.
I would be much more impressed with the governor had she scotched these programmes altogether. But it’s a great start as long as it’s considered just a start.

Then they can learn about their own cultural and linguistic heritage in their own cultural and linguistic community, funded by their own cultural and linguistic members or by volunteers.
This is not the responsibility of taxpayers.
Tax revenues should be spent on items which benefit the common good, not on special interest groups.
