Small Dead Uptime

And I’m live again here – finally had enough of the former isp’s relaxed attitude towards trouble calls. When the service rep sniffed that nothing could be done about their dead modem until Monday, it was time to pull the plug, both literally and figuratively.
To be honest, I was able to put the time to good use. It’s amazing how much work gets done around here when the interweb’s turned off.
Blogging should resume as usual later this evening. Thanks everyone for your patience!

  1. Oh, and boy am I going to keep my mouth shut when I’m ticked off. [sound of fingers uncrossing]
Still think it was programmed, all the right people are silent. Dodd, Durbin, Reid, and Schumer. Dead silent.
    Speaks volumes.

  2. It’s great to have options. There’s no better feeling than telling someone who’s not doing their job, “see ya later, I’m off to visit the competition.”

  3. heh. it’s amazing how much work gets done here too, when the interwebby thingy isn’t working.

  4. Kate: “Hi, Sask-Tel, this is Kate calling from the web site ‘Small Dead Animals.’ I was dealing with an internet provider who has caused me a lot of pain in the last while.”
Guy at Sask-Tel: “You mean you were in love with him and he left you?”
Kate: “No, no, nothing like that. I was dealing with a foreign company, and their bloody servers are always down.”
Sask-Tel Guy: “Well Kate, here at Sask-Tel, you’re always welcomed back, no matter how long you’ve been away. You see, it’s like the story of the prodigal son in the bible. Of course, you’re a daughter, but that’s Ok. You can always come back to Sask-Tel.. You see, at Sask-Tel, we follow the teachings of Tommy Douglas. Forgive and forget, and turn the other cheek and all that good stuff.”
Kate: “Well sir, that sure is comforting.”
Sask-Tel Guy: “Say, are you Kate Macmillan who writes those conservative blogs on ‘Small Dead Gophers'”?
Kate: “Well, actually it’s called Small Dead Animals. But that’s Ok, yeah, that would be me.”
Sask-tel: “Why you little right winged extremist no good for nothing conservative red neck!! Hang up right now–I don’t ever want you calling Sask-Tel again. Did you hear me, never again.”
    (Loud Click)
Kate: “Sob, Sob, sniffle. And here I thought I was doing the world a favor.!”

  5. Maybe the Sask-tel operators work out of the same Dominican Republic call centre, that the National Post and related newspapers recently moved their customer service lines to, closing a call centre in Winnipeg putting 300 people out of work. Not like loosing 300 potential readers will affect their bottom line as much as the saving they will make with the off-shore move.

  6. I wish Kate success with her new ISP.
I do not have any financial interest in my ISP other than paying my monthly connection fee.
My ISP is family owned and operated from Chatham Ontario and provide service to BC, Ontario and Quebec.
They have 24/7 tech service (all in Canada) and I am paying VERY CLOSE TO $50.00 per month less for the exact same internet service I did from one of the biggies who shall remain nameless.
Had I named that company, I suspect the name would would have rang a bell with most Canadians.
The very best part for me service wise, is that the Teksavvy ISP techies are right here in Canada, they speak English I can hear and UNDERSTAND!
Sorry for going somewhat off topic from your post Kate, but I am totally satisfied with my ISP TEKKSAVVY in Chatham Ontario.

  7. Please tell me it wasn’t Access Communications Co-operative Limited, 100% non-profit, Saskatchewan owned and operated. A David to the government’s Goliath (FidelTel North).

  8. Heh, that kind of bad service could have easily come from Sasktel, YourLink OR Shaw.

FWIW, I’ve also heard great things about TekSavvy.
