  1. Look, get real, it’s the Arctic that the press is interested in – lots of cute furry polar bears, only a days civil air charter flight from a 5 star hotel – you can get plenty of good looking models to scamper around on the ice, and it’s at the top of all the maps. The map projections make it look like all the ice in the world is there. Antarctica? – lots of penguins who waddle and smell really funny, not cute. It is only a days flight from a 5 star hotel but the flight is on a big noisy military plane and if anything goes wrong, forget about any rescue, and instead of models, the bases are staffed with bearded scientists who really dislike anything interfering with their research. And, it’s just a big band of white right at the bottom of all those maps.

  2. The alarmists will simply spin that Antarctica is anti and not really “global” because it is upside down and therefore the graph actually points up !!
And besides, they are sulking now because their IPCC center-piece, Mann’s hockey stick, broke when a chunk of The Little Ice Age fell on it.

  3. Well, with “solar minimum” well settled in, we are going to know how bad Canadian winters can be. Beware! Lots of brutal and immobalizing snow storms are coming with overall low temps year round like we had this year but increasingly worse and this possibly for several years maybe decades.
    Google Solar minimum

  4. oooookay.
my question is: does all the melted ice ‘come back’ each year or just part of it in total?
in other words, maybe, juuuuuuust maybe what the data show is that the rate of net loss of ice each year fluxuates. but that overall, with time, there is a trend on average to ice melting from global warming.
    etc etc.
    jist askin’ . . . .

  5. Fear not, tomorrow some journalist at NYT will report a new study from ????? to the effect that this report is just BIG OIL propaganda…..and that in reality we will all drown/die/starve/roast if we don’t give all our money to the UN and burn our cars and homes to shiver in the dark.

  6. Of course in the twisted world of “climate changeys” this just proves THE END OF THE WORLD IS HAPPENING.

  7. I was going to post this link in Reader Tips today, but this is a much more fitting place.
“The ice was thicker than expected at the beginning. In the second week of August, an ice boat captain told him it was the worst he’d seen in 10 years.”
Which is exactly the time frame that locals passed onto a bud of mine this summer while he was up there carrying out a sov patrol.
    Heaviest ice in a decade.

  8. The IPCC models have been predicting for a while that arctic ice would decrease, partially offset by antarctic ice increase. This is not a piece of date that contradicts the main story.
(Those who are watching carefully will notice that the predictions are about ice mass and the news story seems to be about ice area…significant, relevant but a wee bit too technical.)

  9. My bad, I saw the headline and ran with it. Did not notice it was for the Antarctic.
    Still.

    Is Iffy Gooferey?

“More goofery: UN Climate Report Confuses Arctic and Antarctic
Yesterday I pointed out how the hockey stick graph had been removed from the United Nations Climate Report. Now Harold Ambler shows us the document has even more errors.”
    >>> “an hour’s worth of sleuthing revealed that indeed this was not a picture from the top of the world, but rather from the bottom.”

  11. pete e,
Since you are “watching carefully”, I assume that you can provide us figures about the decrease in ice mass that has apparently occurred despite the increases in ice extent. This is a polite request for that information. I like to be informed, and I don’t know about it and I can’t find it.

  12. “but that overall, with time, there is a trend on average to ice melting from global warming”
Alas no, george, the Antartic has been cooling all except for one study, which used, let’s say, innovative yet unproven, methods and a really great graphics package to create the illusion of warming.
Here is a graph of ice extent in the Antarctic, showing that the current extent is above the known history(space age) average.

Incidentally, I don’t credit this to Obama, nor Bush, even though under Bush, the US cut CO2 emissions more than almost all signatories of Kyoto, including Canada… just sayin’.

  13. the earth she wobbles but she wont fall down.
orbital variations. wobbles in the earth spin. solar activity, variations in space density(it aint a vacuum out there)
things that a climate change alarmist cant pin on the puny humans.

  14. cal2, all you have to do is fool most of the media most of the time. QED, evidently, given the current state of affairs.
“Journalism” has gone down the tubes since it became a career option to be studied from a liberal arts perspective.
Anyone heard from John Stossel lately?

  15. “The IPCC models have been predicting for a while that arctic ice would decrease, partially offset by antarctic ice increase. This is not a piece of date that contradicts the main story.”
Then explain why every time a chunk breaks off the Antarctic ice shelf, we are inundated with media coverage?

If the event you are “jist askin'” was actually occurring,it would be plastered on the front page of every lefturd newsrag in the world, and the lead story of every newscast! I know it,and YOU know it.Stop asking stupid questions! At least the cartoon Curious George had some common dogf**k.I always thought there was no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid answera, but lefturds sure prove me wrong every time they open their yaps.

  17. just for fun tell climate alarmists that when a glacier extends out into the water and breaks off, first it means the back of the glacier is being top loaded , therefore it initiates flow.meaning of course the ice is increasing in size.
floating ice does not change sea level , Archimedes figured that out over 2000 years ago, liberal arts journalists have not at this date.

Apparently, neither does global warming. I first visited Historic Properties in Halifax, thirty some years ago. On a trip this summer, I noticed the water has not risen at all. The same is true for every beach, and waterfront property.
Nova Scotians are a fairly gullible people, and a lot of them have jumped on the climate change bandwagon. I guarantee, if someone noticed an inch rise in sea level, it would be all over every newspaper. There’d be protesters in front of Encana’s office.
Before I get a tongue lashing, I grew up in NS. Not everyone is gullible.

  19. dp, after the three year fiasco over a cat bylaw, no one, in Halifax at least, is allowed to be affronted with the “gullible” tag.

  20. dp – While sitting here in my hotel room in Chatham, ON (home of Spanky’s – best ripper palace in Ontario) I sacrificed a few ice cubes from my beer cooler and dropped them into a glass of water. The level, as I suspected, does indeed change and yes, Archimedes did figure this one out.
I don’t buy the AGW argument and I am making the assumption that an ‘ice shelf’ would have been suspended OVER the water before dropping in.
Technically, there should be some extremely minor and most likely immeasurable increase in global ocean levels but the basic physics seems to say it would….
Al Gore is still a turd.

  21. Yes,Brian M @ 8:31 PM. BUT….does the level rise any HIGHER as they melt? THAT is the pertinant question regarding the BS claims of rising sea levels.
