By throwing the unopened bills in a drawer;
Chicago has yet to recoup the $1.74 million cost of President Obama’s victory celebration in Grant Park — despite a burgeoning $50.5 million budget shortfall that threatens more layoffs and union concessions.
“The Democratic National Committee has not yet paid us,” Peter Scales, a spokesman for the city’s Office of Budget and Management, said Thursday after questions from the Chicago Sun-Times. “We’re reaching out to them this week.”
That was February 20th – a full three and a half months after the big bash. I emailed Sun-Times reporter Fran Spielman to see if the DNC’s cheque had arrived. “Still unpaid. I check every few days. Be assured that, as soon as I know, you’ll know. “

No, no. What happened was he sent the cheque for the victory bash to the bank bailout office and vice versa. A common mistake when you don’t have the money to pay either one.
I’m a big fan of the Sopranos, so I understand the term “reaching out” to your guys.
The $ is in an earmark. Have patience Chicago. It will come.
I have spoken with a number of small business people of the years who say that they never do business with the City of Chicago and Cook County because they are as a matter of policy extremely late in paying bills. Nice to see the shoe on the other foot for a change.
That money went to pay the mortgage of some fellow in California. They decided it was better to spread the wealth around rather than pay the guy to whom the money is owed.
Just a thought.. the U.S. right should spend a little more time critically analysing their own failure or they’re going to have two terms of Obama.. and the exile of Rush Limbaugh would be a good place to start.
I was unsure if this was the right place to post this but somehow it fits. Hope it’s all true, don’t have the time to do some proper DD.
Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul,Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the Presidential election:
?Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
?Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans:2,427,000
?Population ofcounties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
?Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare…”
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the “complacency and apathy” phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy, with some fortypercent of the nation’s population already having reached the”governmental dependency” phase.
western canadian – yes, and that’s why Obama and the Democrats want control of the census before the next elections.
Rather than carrying out a census by actual count of inhabitants, they want to ‘count’ (heh) by estimation. Believe it or not. This way, they’ll increase the count and remodel the electoral districts and receive the benefit of those districts with more of those ‘dependent on the government’.
Rob H – why get rid of Rush Limbaugh? Does that mean that you are rejecting the voice of millions of Americans? Or saying that what they think and feel is unacceptable in America? He’s a Conservative and the conservative base is a basis of the Republican Party. Same with Sarah Palin; she’s is a model of a key aspect of the Republican party – an achiever. A key problem is that the Republicans have moved too far away from that base and into the games of the effete latte crowd.
As for the Democrats not paying their bills, we have the same problem in Canada. The Liberal party owes the taxpayers of Canada over 40 million dollars. We’ve been waiting for years and they, on their part, hope that we will forget.
I got kicked off a Lefty blog for asking that if the Liberals couldn’t manage their own money, how were they going to manage ours?
They get reeeeal sensitive about that.
The watch on Grant Park getting torched like that restaurant in Goodfella’s and the Grand Mere in Chretiens riding, begins.

Oh, they have ways of recouping the money!
Today, IL legislators announced that they are “seriously mulling over” the idea of raising state income taxes 67% (yep, 67%) in order to fix the state’s ongoing money problems. — brought to you by the same political machine that gave the world BO
Can someone please give me a bailout from this state?
Obummer will make a lie of his campaign pledge that 95% of American taxpayers will receive a tax cut the moment he rescinds the Bush tax cuts.
No there is a novel way of fighting a bad recession – leave less money in people’s pockets and more in Government.
They’re not called “tax and spend liberals” for nothing.

That ‘Hemline’ info has been searched by snopes There is a professor from a ‘Hamline’ university and apparently he is upset about the ‘e-mail’ that is circulting. The numbers have been analysed…too far off base for credibility.
This is all I could find today.
http://conwebwatch.tripod.com/stories/2004/redblue.html
Notice they discuss the Bush/Kerry election.
I did see a more recent clarification explaining there is no one named Olson from Hemline.
“Reaching out” sounds so non- agressive, uncapitalist, socio-neutral and non-offensive, politically correct way of saying ‘Pay up or else.’
I picture a soft pink handed, squeaky voiced mamby pamby person with no backbone, and lots of make-up…
not that there is anything wrong with make-up.
If only the phone company, bank and credit card companies would ‘reach out’ to me…I wouldn’t worry so much about paying my bills.
“and the exile of Rush Limbaugh would be a good place to start.”
I fully agree. We should not waste this crisis, but should use it to suppress free speech wherever it is critical of us. Brilliant insight Comrade Rob!
Rob H says: and the exile of Rush Limbaugh would be a good place to start.
Spoken like a true liberal. What the Republicans need is to get back to being Conservatives and not liberal lites.
I know the lefties hate Rush. Cry me a friggin river. Liberals are all scum.
Getting rid of Rush is exactly what shouldn’t be done. When, oh when, oh when have conservatives ever done well by being nice to liberals? For that matter, when have liberals ever been nice to conservatives? When you’re enemy tells you it will go better for you by getting rid of ______, then you know that _______ is making them hurt.
As Ann Coulter put it, you know you’re closest to the truth when the liberal you’re talking to is reduced to apoplectic, vein-popping, sputtering rage. The truth drives them nuts.
Palin in 2012. S@#w the MSM. Just make sure she stops trying to play nice with them.
Party? Where’s the party?
Havin’ a ball at the “‘Darktown Strutters’ Ball.'”
No teleprompter: “without saying a word.”
“Then the big surprise: President Obama glided onstage to start a round of “Happy Birthday.” He slipped away, with that loose-limbed strut of his, without saying a word.”

Not long ago the Liberals and the Dippers, along with their cronies (MSM), were telling us we had “better get rid of Harper”.
Not going to happen; as ET pointed out Rush speaks to millions who then speak to millions more. The day Republicans and Conservatives start making top down decisions like RobH would suggest, is the day we become liberals. Never!
Gee and the Obama People’s Party raised some $700 million for his election.
And they can’t find a measely $1.7 million to pay for the bash?
Yea, the Dems really are the American version of our Crooked Liberal Party du Canada alright.
Socialists love spending other people’s money.
I predict Obama will give 95% of Americans a tax cut, then hit them with a massive hike early in his second term (and God forebid there’s a second).
Otherwise, the trillions of debt borrowed will pay for the cuts. Again, spending other people’s money.
LOL.. “comrad Rob”.. no, I’m a card-carrying Conservative, donator to the party, President of my Provincial PC constituency.. a business-owner and a thinking realist who can see the writing on the wall..
Memo to U.S. Republicans.. you got smoked. Your diatribtes and fear-mongering didn’t work. Time to re-tool.. and as for Rush “speaking for” conservatives, that’s just because no one intelligent has stepped into the role.
The problems of society are a little more complex than simple-minded demogogues like Rush like to talk about.. and we, as conservatives in Canada, need to also understand that.
Here’s a thought.. maybe not every right wing speaker has something to say, and not every liberal idea is devoid of consideration.
That makes me a liberal? Well, ok, call me a liberal, labels are for people that have little minds that can’t expand to handle complex concepts..
..though if I am going to resort to a label, perhaps the one beside Rush Limbaugh should be “side-show circus freak”.
“a thinking realist who can see the writing on the wall..”
Sorry, but what you describe is no better than losing elections fair and square, except, by your thinking, we have zero chance of winning. You don’t want to run to do something, you want to run to be something, to put it as Reagan put it, and what you want to be is the “tax collector for the welfare state.” We can, by your lights, forget about bettering our lives, because, whatever life we are living, we have to accept that that is what is best for society as our lot, and what is best for society is what politicians decide is best.
What you want is that, if I want to start a new business, I have to get a by your leave from some blood sucking govt bureaucrat who immediately cuts himself in. If that is the future that we are doomed to, you will have to take me there kicking and screaming.
Ah.. a Reaganite.. I should have seen that.. so, because I’m not affirming a loud-mouthed hypocrite drug addict, I’m now suggesting that there should be a socialist state?
What’s wrong with a responsible conservative policy that acknowledges the incredible stupidity and dishonesty of GWB’s policies? That sicking the Attorney General on your enemies perhaps isn’t something noble or decent? Or, if we want to talk about Reagan, that a President and Vice-President, who supports the subversion of the Constitution of the U.S. is perhaps not something to admire. Please.
I don’t support Obama’s policy at all. I think Hillary Clinton’s notion of the state raising our children is completely Orwellian.. but we as Conservatives, need to be more honest and more intelligent – recognize our problems and our weaknesses and attack “progressive” ideas in a way that isn’t just some barking-dog pavlovian response to anything that a liberal says.
BTW, have you checked out Obama’s poll numbers lately, while at 56, err that was yesterday, it is possible that they are lower today. But, nonetheless, they are pretty high, they remind me of one of those Japanese Zeros in a WWII movie that has been shot down and is falling out of the clouds with a slow auguring whine speeding towards its inevitable date with the South Pacific.
“Writing on the wall” indeed.
“a loud-mouthed hypocrite drug addict” – Right out of the ministry of hate. I assume that you mean that Rush is hypocritical about drug addiction, so, as a responsible politician, I am sure that you can back that up with a quote.
Since you are not into Orwellian politics, why is it that you are participating in these week’s sanctioned “weekly hate” Have you read the book you referenced? If you have, do you have a sense of irony?
If you are really interested in what is best for conservatives, why are you quoting unsubstantiated (the hypocrite part) ministry of hate talking points? One wonders.
Rob H–CINO (conservative in name only)
Rob H said: labels are for people that have little minds that can’t expand to handle complex concepts..
Ah yeah, sure. Then he writes:
…so, because I’m not affirming a loud-mouthed hypocrite drug addict,
hmmm…sounds like a label. Sounds like a liberal. Keep trying homey.
Rob H. would seem to be one of the legions of “independent” thinkers who feel they can speak with authority on the subject of Rush Limbaugh… without having actually listened to his show. Ever.
One of the problems Conservatives have is guys like Rob H. who seem quite happy to compromise with the socialists.
In a compromise Rob, we always only lose and the socialists always only win. Incrementalism Rob. Death by duck nibbling. You either stand up for what you believe in or you’re working for the other team.
Smaller government, lower taxes, less regulation. This is modern Conservatism. Any and all other “compromises” are incremental socialism.
You want to live in that, move to France. Better garage your car though, they burn a couple hundred a week over there.
Yes Tim, he’s one of those “I’m a conservative but..” type of guys.
The US is in the middle of economic meltdown and where’s Obamanation? A whirl win trip around the ME, when ever he’s needed to show strong leadership he cuts and runs. He did it during the election and he’ll keep on doing it. He’s not a leader he’s someone’s puppet. Who’s puppet is he?
Rob H,
“I’m a card-carrying Conservative, donator to the party, President of my Provincial PC constituency.. a business-owner and a thinking realist who can see the writing on the wall..”
Ahem..which provincial constituency would that be, Rob? Just so we know which mushy constituency needs firming up. You may have the card that says you are a member of the Conservative Party but you are a conservative like Margaret Atwood is Canada’a Next Top Model.
RobH
“but we as Conservatives, need to be more honest and more intelligent – recognize our problems and our weaknesses and attack “progressive” ideas in a way that isn’t just some barking-dog pavlovian response to anything that a liberal says.”
Actually, dog-wise the Pavlovian response was to drool. An apt metaphor, perhaps, for your participation in our little discussion here. Wipe your chin Rob.
Perhaps Frum’s problem is that he can’t shake his ‘Canadianism’.
YEP..We never really needed him anyway.
Is everyone delusional? Who would excpect god to pay for his inaguration? Come on now – they should be grateful to have been chosen as the location of this historical event.
RobH Just what did Rush say that made you so angry, annoyed or whatever you wish to call it? Can you be specific please.
Hi Tim in VT
In the link below you’ll find several quotes from Limbaugh illustrating his hypocrisy on drug addiction.
Basically he says we’re too soft on drug addicts and that they should go to jail. Don’t recall him going to jail for illegally procuring and taking drugs, though!
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1159
Now: maybe next we’ll solve the mystery of why your spokesman got caught going on a vacation in the Dominican Republic with four men and a suitcase full of Viagra! 🙂
Speaking of addictions, heard that the OWE can’t seem to quit his addiction to ciggs.
Here are the two quotes that FAIR has that are less than 15 years old:
I would like you to explain how they are hypocritical. They mention drugs, they are observations about the world. That does not make them hypocritical. The rest of your quotes are, as I say, over 15 years old, and came at a time before Rush got hooked on a back pain medicine that is well known to be dangerously addictive. Not something he got into for recreation purposes. As he admitted, when he did his first show out of rehab, the drugs got the best of him, and he learned a few things. If everybody who ever grew in life is now labeled a hypocrite in your world, well, you can have it. Like the rest of the Obama administration, it is far too Orwellian for me.
I wonder if the right wingers on this site consider me a hypocrite because I once voted for Jimmy Carter but now I espouse Reaganism?
Tim, you might also note that Oxycontin destroyed Limbaugh’s hearing. The man is now profoundly deaf. He does that show every day with a cochlear implant.
That’s some serious dues to pay for having an addiction.
Besides, I’ll stack Limbaugh’s peccadilloes against Teddy Kennedy, God of the Left any day.
Can you say “Chappaquiddick”, bleat? How about Mary Joe Kopechne?
Never mind the politics of personal destruction. Listen to what the guy said and argue with that. Well, if you -can- argue with it, anyway. That’s the thing about Limbaugh and Conservatives generally. They say things like “water is wet” and bleat’s head explodes.
Hey idd
Did cigarettes become illegal? Somehow I missed that!
Based on the evidence of his Viagara-fuelled all-male holiday in the Dominican Republic, your hero Rush likes to put something else in his mouth…
And suck on it, too! 🙂
Well bleat, tell me where I once called rush my hero?
You’ve displayed that your not so ‘hot’ with the details.
So did someone beat logic out of your mind or were you born this way?
IN a liberal bleating world: addiction to smokes, cocaine, crack, sex, image in the mirror and alcohol = good.
Addiction to prescription medicine = evil, bad and not good looking enough, either…is that your logic?
Anyways not going to feed your fermented mind further.
Bleet -Rush has been married three times to women
calls himself
Über-sexual
Limbaugh used this description of himself after reading a press release [77] that called men who “embrace the positive aspects of their masculinity or ‘M-ness’ (e.g., confidence, leadership, passion, compassion) without giving in to the stereotypes that give guys a bad name (e.g., disrespect toward women, emotional emptiness, complete ignorance of anything cultural outside of sports, beer, burgers, and athletic shoes),” Limbaugh declared that “[b]y this definition, I’m one.” [78] [79] He was incorrectly quoted by Beth Thames in the Huntsville Times as having called himself the “uber-male” [80]
maybe your gaydar is self fulfilling so to speak
Hey Idd
If he’s not your hero you sure spend a ot of time defending him…
Maybe you’re looking for an invite to one of those exclusive all-male Viagra vacations?
How old are you bleat?
Can you quote me defending him.
Never mind, just reload the bong son, you’re getting stale and your obsessiveness with male sexuality virility issues is boarding on psychosis.
