Y2Kyoto: The First Time In History That Cold Has Ever Frozen Water*

CTV.ca – Dec.15/08

When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, global warming was a slow-moving environmental problem that was easy to ignore. Now it is a ticking time bomb that President-elect Barack Obama can’t avoid.

Daily Tech – Jan.1/09;

Thanks to a rapid rebound in recent months, global sea ice levels now equal those seen 29 years ago, when the year 1979 also drew to a close.
Ice levels had been tracking lower throughout much of 2008, but rapidly recovered in the last quarter. In fact, the rate of increase from September onward is the fastest rate of change on record, either upwards or downwards.
The data is being reported by the University of Illinois’s Arctic Climate Research Center, and is derived from satellite observations of the Northern and Southern hemisphere polar regions

(By the way – who’s the designated global warming mouthpiece at CTV these days? A few hundred forwards of the DailyTech link would be a wonderful service to Canadians.)

I heard Exxon is going to take out Shell. they have a 280 billion warchest to do it.

  2. Throw Suzuki in jail, then extradite his partners in slime Algore and that charlatan Hansen. This bullsh.t has sucked up enough taxpayers and stupid old ladies money. All these crooks make the Nigerian letter pukes look like reputable citizens. Madoff for president, why not try that headline CTV, you losers.

  3. Geez haven’t you heard? It’s not global warming anymore it’s Climate Change. If the facts don’t fit the theory…..change the theory…

  4. How come the Weather Channel always gets a pass?
They have their climate change propaganda machine in full gear ALL THE TIME!

  5. The Media in the US has been pushing (running up the flag) a GAS tax. The MSM Hair balls claim its no be deal… just a $.10 rise in the price of gas.
The white paper clearly states its $.10 (cents) per month for 2 years which equals $ 2.40 of TAX per Gallon. That will make gas >$4.00 per gallon in 2 years.
MSM & Trust don’t belong in the same sentance

  6. I came across the following on a weather forum in the UK where various AGW/CC proponents like to entrap young and impressionable readers. But this theory reaches a new height of absurdity …
    Quoting now …
“As mentioned before man has been impacting upon the climate since he first hauled himself out of Africa and took to modifying his environment (be it the burning of NE Australia or the burning of the reeds at Flagg Fen). The above outlines how our kindly treatment of the native populations of the America’s (by introducing them to influenza, smallpox, chicken pox, measles et-al) helped create the ‘little ice age’ (so fondly looked upon by the contrarians).
“Apparently the reforestation of agricultural lands post pandemic population collapse in the America’s pulled down so much CO2 as to trigger the LIA…”
    (LIA = Little Ice Age)
Don’t forget, there is every chance that this is being taught to millions of children in schools around the world.
Climate change, reversing the Enlightenment in one Gorey campaign.

  7. There may be a chink in the wall of MSM’s wilfull ignorance about the true state of climate science. Over at the Maclean’s magazine blog, Alexandra Shimo has, twice within a week, made posts that report on science findings that challenge global warming orthodoxy. Predictably, the warmie cultists are outraged over such heresy.

  8. Of course, the fact that settlers in northeastern North America, who burned almost exaclty every hardwood tree over the space of 200 yrs for potash filling the skies with smoke that is clearly seen in Greenland ice cores, and the fact that the sun was spotless for years had nothing to do with it. It was all CO2.
The indians also, like the Mongols, burned huge tracts of forest when they got horses that strayed from the Spanish in the 16th century, That had nothing to do with it either. It was all down to CO2.
Climatology is the science where a proof begins with the phrase “assuming that”
If you make the right assumptions, you can prove that CO2 is responsible for everything. Just like if you have the right “Justices”, the US Constitution can read like the Communist Manifesto.

  9. Another sign of the kool-aid diet at work …
Yesterday, Vancouver’s NDP mayor Gregor Robertson, being grilled by the local media about the non-response of the city to our recent three weeks of heavy snow, let loose the chestnut that perhaps the city will have to look into spending some money on extra snow-clearing for future winters, because we might expect more of this as part of “climate change.”
Hey wait a minute, I thought we were supposed to get milder winters and more rain because of climate change. Apparently this cold, snowy winter was an inconvenient truth.
By the way, the non-response is the usual Vancouver (and region) response to snow, they plow the main roads and wait for the side streets to clear through melting, usually this works okay because our typical snowfall event here lasts maybe 2-4 days, so people put up with it as a larger fleet of snowplows would seem like an unnecessary expense.
The problem this winter has been, instead of melting, the snow just turns to slush, freezes up and then another layer falls on top of that, so the side streets are all more or less obstacle courses that are next to impossible to drive.
This sort of winter used to be about a one in three event, more recently, it has become more like a one in ten. But I understand this was always the response around here and people just put up with it. Three or four weeks gets into real problem territory, there is very little garbage pickup, the trucks can’t get down the streets or back lanes (which are a total disaster). Delivery trucks have little chance of getting through either, and of course emergency services are a real problem. For the elderly, walking is a real nightmare, some of the sidewalks are cleared, some are not, and the various municipalities don’t bother to shovel crosswalks or bus stops, so there are literally hundreds of places where a less agile person could easily slip and fall.
So the mayor got elected mainly on the wave of public discontent when the former mayor seemed to do nothing to end a long garbage strike last summer … and now he’s blaming “climate change” for the mess on the streets. And the sheeple mainly accept this, so they get what they deserve, I suppose.
I’m only here because every circus needs a clown, or maybe I should say, a guy to shovel away the elephant dung.
Meanwhile, now it’s raining hard and 4 degrees C, heading up to about 8 C, and all of this slushy mess is about to melt … expect to hear about roof collapses, flooding and all sorts of misery, but at least the garbage will get picked up, so we may avoid the cholera outbreak.

  10. Set you free: The cold air is coming from the North Pole…where the sun doesn’t shine much. A warmer arctic is still really, really cold. The new sea ice matches levels seen 20 years ago in AREA…not volume. The new ice is merely a thin layer, nothing permanent…it will be gone come summer.
Oceans don’t freeze easily, their salt content and vastness are the reasons. Also, water is at its densest at 4 degrees celsius.
uuess: you have your history off a bit.
The Phantom: Actually, us ecodorks are very much up to date, it seems you don’t research deep enough. That sea ice is very much temporary…a thin sheet.
Madigras Dave: Exxon? Are you out of your mind? Remember the Valdez, remember the criminal CEO’s? Remember/know anything?
Tim: What do you think was released when those trees were burnt..and they were already dead too…Dutch Elm disease and sudden oak death did them all in. Trees are made of Carbon…burning something is the same as OXIDIZING it (adding an Oxygen atom) so we get CO2. Disappeared? Sorry I don’t come to this site every single day without fail. And I believe I requested a PRIMARY RESOURCE…that is an original articles…not a random website, not a NEWS article written by a JOURNALIST.

  11. The studies on climate change are every bit as valid as the studies behind second hand ( and now third) smoke.

  12. peterj: I would say that many of the studies questioning climate change, those that are supported and paid for by Big Oil and similar groups are similar to the studies questioning the health hazards of smoking and second hand smoke that were supported and paid for by Big Tobacco.
