  1. What a ….
    tool?
    fool?
    lying liberano scumbag?
Imagine if these scammers did there research first. The BS would be even deeper.

  2. I really wish that there were transcripts available for those of us who are hearing impaired. 🙁
(Note that I’m not complaining to an HRC about this, however.)

  3. I’ve heard four year olds express themselves more coherently and intelligently than this Liberal politician.
I have to give him full marks for either chutzpah or stupidity: why on earth did he agree to participate in this discussion when he had not a clue what he was talking about (for a whole ten minutes)? And it’s a LIBERAL plan, for Pete’s sake!
As Alice said, “Things are getting curiouser and curiouser”. Stupider too: that even a dozen Canadians are still willing to vote for the Lieberanos is a testament to the brainwashing of a once proud and independent people–intelligent too. Lord, help us.

  4. Yup
Listening to that this morning the math really wasn’t adding up for me either. I think it’s sad that none of the people trying to sell this plan thought of the potential questions like “what is this green tax doing for the environment?”

  5. You also have to give Gormley credit… love him or hate… he gave Boshcoff more than enough rope to hang himself.

  6. If the Shaft is revenue neutral, meaning all the money taken will be given back to those who pay it,the over-taxed working poor, then how the hell
can the poor benefit from nothing? Are the Lieberals, Dion in particular telling us they won’t take a penny for themselves either?
It’s also doing nothing for the environment, directly or indirectly so the question is WHY BOTHER?

  7. If only we could hear “I don’t have an answer for that” just one more time maybe we would buy into the shaft plan!!
So much for me thinking the people in Northern Ontario were similar to the people of the prairies.

  8. Well, there it is, out in the open once and for all.
Bombardion, and his merry band of leftarded jerk off artists have a burning desire to build free daycare centres for Ontario and Quebec’s professors and elites.
And they are going to do it on the backs of the west, whether you like it or not!
This has nothing to do with the environment, and everything to do with trough swilling elites and their sense of entitlement.
Because if you think that any of that money would make it to the single mother in Sharbot Lake ON, you must be smoking real good crack!

  9. If anything is described as ‘Revenue Neutral’, it begs to ask, why bother in the first place?
Especially seeing that Dion’s plan by design will not be tracking a drop in carbon. It’s NEP Part Deux, folks. Lock up your silver.

  10. The question was: “How do these guys get elected?” My answer is that 60+% of the Canadian electorate either believe “Harry Potter is a Documentary” or they are just too damed lazy to get involved. Getting involved carries risks as I can vouch from experience. Risks you may have to change your opinion to the chides of your friends.
In my younger days I also believed there was a “Free Lunch”. I can thank PET for smartening me up.
When you hear an Albertan say: “…and there selling all our oil to them Americans”, with that incredulous tone in their voice, you know everyone just doesn’t get it.
The fight for the education of Canadians never stops.

  11. After listening to that interview, all I could think was, “How did this guy every get elected for anything?”.
My second thought was, what kind of candidate were the Conservatives running that lost to this twit?
If the Conservatives can’t beat clowns like this, the country can’t be saved, and I’m moving west…
    if you’ll have me.

  12. lookout @4:49PM… please don’t call them “lieber”anos. it looks like a term of endearment to those of us who understand German.

  13. His riding is one that Conservatives can realistically target next election. Just remind them that carbon tax will apply to diesel:
    DISTRICT: Thunder Bay-Rainy River
    Candidate Party Vote Count
    Ken Boshcoff LIB 13520 35.13%
    John Rafferty NDP 12862 33.42%
    David Leskowski CON 10485 27.25%

  14. Amazing.
Clealry not explained properly to the Liberal Caucus, or some arent listening.
It is a great question, how much is going to the environment, when that isnt the alleged point. If the Liberals are STOOOOPID enough to fall for that one they don’t understand the point of a revenue neutral carbon tax.
The THEORETICAL point is to change the relative price of carbon as an input. Meaning when you come to make the purchase decision, the more carbon that is in a good the more expensive it would be relative to other goods. So in fact there is NOTHING to be funded “for the environment” it is a market based (albeit a thumb on the scale one) solution.
Of course the Liberals don’t know how to defend it because they dont really believe the market works….so they fall back on the tax…keep…transmute and spend (with a Liberal at every photo opp that has spending attached to it)
It is also about finding a way to prevent Oil based provinces from outstripping the others…isnt just Western based anymore guys sorry…..BTW I dont agree with it and I dont like the Green Shift plan because I have enough questions about the darn premise.
What a mess and what a muddle. Message from Liberals to Dion in Spetember will be…..”do NOT fight an election over this, we cant explain it we’ll lose.”
My message to the Cons….find a way to have an election this fall PLEASE.

  15. The problem isn’t that he’s a nakedly vacuous lying scumbag, the problem is that he seems to think that we, the Canadian people, should be satisfied with his nakedly vacuous scumbag lies.

  16. This guy isn’t the biggest idiot. That distinction belongs to the folks who voted for him. Shame on you.

  17. We can laugh and bi%%h all we want at the Libs who are apparently hanging themselves. In reality they are not hanging themselves they are actually simplifying the message: “we’re bribing you”. It doesn’t matter what we say or do out west, we are an acceptable casualty in this war. The question is: Will we respond as typical Canadians and bend over; or, will we respond like principled adults and do what is necessary to protect our families?
Dion and his cronies have a little more than a year to sell their bribe to central Canadians, the timetable is now working in Dion’s favor and he will probably get the minority government he has promised his party.

  18. Boshcoff is a featherweight who is incapable of understsnding or explaining even the simplest concept or idea. The Green Shaft is about stripping wealth out of AB/SK and giving it to the needy in Quebec ON and Fishworld. In spite of Dion, Harper is having trouble breaking through in both On and PQ. The GTA is voting liberal no matter what. PQ is in play and if Dion can convince the voters there that under the Green Shaft they will benefit well…. It’s all about Quebec. It always is.

  19. IH, The Liberals may well end up the natiopnal Party of Toronto (and perhaps PEI). Can they form a government on that basis?

  20. As an person undeducated in Liberal thinking, here’s my take on the premise behind the Green Shift … and why it ultimately will not work.
Today, much of the state’s revenue is generated by income tax. In the US, for example, the top 1% of income earners pay 48% of the taxes. Conversely, the bottom 50% of taxpayers pay just 3% of income taxes.
I’m sure Canada’s income tax system is not quite as extreme, but I bet it’s close.
Dion’s proposal (I think) would depend less on income taxes and more on consumption taxes (think GST, the classic consumption tax).
It seems obvious Dion’s belief that consumption taxes are better than income taxes, otherwise he would not muse about raising the GST rate back to 7%.
So, this inarticulate Robin Hood goes after the economic sector which is apparently oppressing the greatest number of unwashed and slaps the Green Tax at the manufacturer’s level.
Trouble is that it’s going to hurt ALL consumers in the end, since costs will be passed onto consumers.
So, Dion’s plan is like the Dennis Moore skit in Monty Python, where he robs from the poor (by forcing them to pay more taxes) and giving to the rich (by lowering their income tax … since cars are totally unaware of how rich their driver is, their thirst for gas is pretty much equal).
As the song goes … stupid bitch.
Europeans have already figured this out and are starting to vote out the jackasses who passed the carbon taxes. Dion’s just a bit behind the curve.

  21. The only green shift, will be shifting the green from our pockets into federal general revenue. the term “revenue neutral” is an oxymoron. nothing the government does regarding revenue is neutral.
    mid island mike

  22. A tax is a tax is a tax.
If you take at the consumption level the product or service becomes a bit too expensive to buy. That means less is sold or served. That means less production and service jobs are needed.
If you tax it at the income level, the job itself becomes too expensive for the business to afford so the business shrinks or leaves for a better place to do business.
Observation: Any and all tax hurts economic growth.
Conclusion: Reduce all tax and we all prosper.
It’s better to take 10% from 33 million people than 50% from whoever is left in the work force after most business gives up and leaves.
Suggestion: Vote for a government that will limit the tax take to what is required for what governments were originally designed to do … infrastructure, law and order, defense, whatever regulation to protect citizens from fraud and so on. Leave the rest to the private sector and individuals to figure out on their own. WE CAN DO IT if the government gets the hell out of the way.
I am sick of the lies and semi-hidden agendas to rob us blind and take our freedoms and chances of prosperity away. These Liberal haven’t a clue about where wealth comes from and how it MUST BE TREATED in order for it to continue providing the high standard of living we all want and need.
It is men like this idiot and the idiots he works for .. namely Stephane Dion and the fools in his constituency who voted him in that cause revolutions that are so destructive to a society.

  23. Marc Lalonde, Mr. Trudeau’s energy minister and the brains behind the NEP, later acknowledged the motive was what Albertans had suspected all along: to transfer wealth from Alberta to Central Canada.
“The major factor behind the NEP wasn’t Canadianization or getting more from the industry or even self-sufficiency. The determinant factor was the fiscal imbalance between the provinces and the federal government,” he says in David Kilgour’s 1988 book, Uneasy Patriots. “Our proposal was to increase Ottawa’s share appreciably, so that the share of the producing provinces would decline significantly and the industry’s share would decline somewhat.”
I posted the above on Garth – the mouth – Turners blog last weak and his response was “OH REALLY, WHERE IS THIS WRITTEN DOWN – THE CAUCUS HAS NOT HEARD THIS” I guess that Garth is the only member to not have been told. Now we have confirmation that the “GREEN SHAFT” is nothing more then NEP II> A transfer of wealth from the now rich producing provinces to the once rich central provinces. This has been Liberal Party police for 40 years – screw the parts of the country that do not vote Liberal and use their resources to buy votes in Ontario and Quebec.
Keith Davey, the Liberals’ campaign strategist, put it bluntly during the Liberals’ 1980 federal election: “Screw the West, we’ll take the rest.”
“Screw the West, we’ll take the rest.”
Today is “Screw the producing provinces, we’ll take Ontario and Quebec.” Dion is NO DIFFERENT THAN TRUDEAU – another Liberal asshat, more interested in power-at any cost – even the distruction of the country. Dion, Boob Rae, Iggy, Turner – these care NOTHING FOR CANADA – only power and money.

  24. Too painful to listen to. I got more believable stories when my son got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. BTW, he was 4 years old then, what is Boshcoff’s excuse? He had the BS meter on my computer pegged hard over.

  25. If the Conservatives can’t beat clowns like this, the country can’t be saved”.
Cappy, you’ve said a mouthful. In November, and I’m holding my breath, we’ll see maybe just how stupidly the Republicans threw it all away. I will vote for McCain, but, how in the name of God when we need an articulate fresh conservative face on the national stage did he happen? It’s pure hubris and stupidity.
The Brits will vote for Cameron, a mealy mouthed wuss with no lasting happiness on that. If Conservatives in the West can’t come up with quality principled articulate politicians that do win and leave legacies – a Reagan, a Thatcher – they might as well surrender as many are doing.

  26. Interestingly SH, when he talks about the “green Shaft” does not frame it in east versus west terms.
The reason perhaps; – the GS plan is popular with Eastern CDNs – quite possibly because it is a rob from the West give to the East program just like the very popular NEP was. For SH to point out the NEP redux character of the “shaft” would only add to its popularity.
This is a truly grim thing to ponder IMO, as it frames this Confederation as being based on one primary motive – Greed.
Perhaps it would be better if SH pulled the scab off and told it like it is and let the chips fall where they may rather than let yet another CDN myth – that we are a nation of compromisers and cooperators – fester on.

  27. Now that Liberal M.P. Ken Boshcoff has released the truth about the Liberal’s “Green Shift Plan”, will the Conservatives make the most of Stéphane Dion’s and the Liberal’s “Hidden Agenda”?

  28. WOW….
That was painful to listen to
Woe be to us if we ever let these morons back at the controls
And he wonders why HIS area is particullary hard hit….

  29. I listened to that this morning and Boshcoff really brought a knife to a gunfight.

  30. From what I heard:
North Bay is not doing well economically so its time to screw the west.
We lost some potential refineries so we must tax the oil industry.
The west has too low an unemployment rate therefore we must gut the productive industries and replace them with gvt dependent industries.
Since the gvt can’t afford to support these new ‘green’ industries, private money will have to replace the money the gvt has removed from the private industries.
Any tax must be ‘revenue neutral’. Therefore any money taken from the private sector must be blown by gvt as soon as possible on any project or cause that might increase liberal support in Ontario.
Now run along children nothing to see here. Just liberals doing what they do naturally.

  31. Liberals dont have much to lose in Alberta or Saltchewan….they do have seats to lose in Newfoundland that they cannot afford to lose.
The Dion Carbony like tax will only help in and around Toronto, where they dont have much to gain and Vancouver, where they dont have much to gain only prevent loss.
Honestly I dont see where they will pick up any seats and in fact all this does is reinforce the base of people who would have voted Liberal anyway.
Southwestern Ontario is still going to flip Con…there are some suburban toronto ridings, and vancouver ridings that are going to flip con…there will still be a pickup in Suburban Quebec, Outauais and around Quebec City.
Tories were about 10 seats shy of majority….If those Newf seats flip, as they are like Alberta now….then Tories really are on verge of majority based on how it works out.
I still think Dion is going to be a disaster in the campaign, the Liberals have enough for 2 weeks maybe and then the wheels will come off. We can only hope it looks like a Tory minority leading into the last 3 days. The Liberal base wont be active and we will get a surprise con majority…..this is not the going to do any damage to the cons over time…..it might of if there was an election campaign on but now……….
Honestly, it will be dead in the water by the fall and the Liberals have nothing else left.

  32. Man, that was painful to listen to.
At least this guy confirmed what we already knew, that this is nothing but a socialist redistribution scheme. Nothing to do with energy and the environment at all.
And that’s why I would not consider the Liberals done for in the next election. Quite the contrary:
“Those who will rob Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.”

  33. I really really tried but I couldn’t stomach it past about the two minute mark.
I am growing more and more irate at the overt protection and enabling the vast majority of the MSM supplies this f*cked up group of utterly dishonest and self-interested social engineers called the LPC.

  34. Who can resist voting to pay a hypocritical tax? Lets see the NDP top that. A brilliant Liberal offer by Dion!

  35. Cue Elizabeth May…
Calling Ms. Elizabeth May! Ms. May! Oh Ms. May!! Ms. May? Has anybody seen Elizabeth May?

  36. When I first read about this tory I figured it was probably part of a plot to sandbag Steffie and get a new leader but after actually listening to that guy there’s no way he’s got enough brains for that. Is someone else putting him up to it? Who was his choice is the last Liberal leadership race?

  37. One thing that should not be overlooked in the whole Greenshift/shaft is the liklihood that prices will rise — how could they not. So regardless of whatever money the Liberal shift from West to East, I think that everyone will be worse off after this fiasco and after transportation costs rise, wage demands rise for public sector workers, cost of heating hospitals and city buildings rise — this will not be good for anyone. With the kind of rhetoric that Dion is spouting with the big focus on funding for the poor, he may be attempting to get NDP votes. He may — but unless existing Liberals lack all common sense (some do) he will loose a certain percentage of the Liberal vote, I believe.

  38. Democracy may be the least bad type of government, but it is not synonymous with freedom. Regardless of whether this ‘Red Shift’ flies, expect the Liberals to continue offering programs of this ilk, as the electorate of central Canada, especially the typical socialist dependants generated by our public schools and universities, will lap up any excuse to appropriate western wealth.

  39. Every one is talking about the cost of this green shift.
That alone is the problem and the answer.
Ask any enviromentalist what direct effect this tax shift has on the environment. Where do dollars go? Saying to myself for example, by lowering my carbon footprint I can save money (?!?!?!?!?) Like I get a kick out of heating my “extra” or driving to work in a small car “too much”
I already try to save on the cost of these items. Where will the environmental benifit be?
Now after asking all the questions about that, explain to me how a complex tax system, measuring a gas of all things (yeah, I am sure the gov’t will know exactly how much I use in a year.) can help anyone. And if you beleive the cost to admin this plan will be minimal remember the gun registry. That was only firearm owners. This is everyone.
As I type I get more worked up.
Gonna get a Kokanee from the beer fridge while I still can.
    See ya.

  40. They don’t even have our 15.4 billion dollars yet, and Boshcoff is already rubbing his hands together with glee wanting to spend it on child care, etc., and improvements in his home riding. The effing nerve of these losers. Really, you must have two brain cells left if you actually are proud to vote for these cretins.
