The Sound Of Settled Science

As I was saying, how much colder would you like it to be?

“Global warming will stop until at least 2015 because of natural variations in the climate, scientists have said. Researchers studying long-term changes in sea temperatures said they now expect a “lull” for up to a decade while natural variations in climate cancel out the increases caused by man-made greenhouse gas emissions. The average temperature of the sea around Europe and North America is expected to cool slightly over the decade while the tropical Pacific remains unchanged. This would mean that the 0.3°C global average temperature rise which has been predicted for the next decade by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change may not happen, according to the paper published in the scientific journal Nature.”

A raindrop does not fall in this country without our news media invoking global warming. So how does this profession so keenly atuned to every huff and puff of climate science miss a peer reviewed study that calls it off?

  1. Anyone want to start a pool on when and yet If the MSM will report this. If they report this won’t it be admitting that they have been duped by the Gores and Suzukis of the world.
I believe they won’t report it because the socialist left leaning, Mansbridges, Laflammes, Olivers, Robertsons etc. of the CBC and CTV really still believe that the way we westerners live is the source of all that ills the world. all activists believe our way of life is the cause of the worlds problems and we should be ashamed, but if we buy carbon credits (which go to Gore and Suzuki) it will absolve us of our sins and all will be okay.

  2. Interesting.
The warming that felt so good is coming to an end, even though by 2012 it was supposed to be the end of the world. Now another bunch sez, that there will be a delay of some 20 years. Why not 10, why not 30. 20 sounds good, don’t it. They pulled it out of the same hat as Gore and company.
The way it works, the climate, the weather, the whole complex system will work its wanders every which way it will. No Gore, nor Suzuki or any other wacko will actually have any say in it, though they will collect tithes from the followers.
As some may know, the Big Giant Head in the government of the lotus land, passed actual law, that sez that due to AGW they will slap $0.025 tax on gasoline and tax that will increase cost of heating a house along with other such taxes, this will happen on June 1 2008. You have one guess as to the question: will the taxes be repealed? Have you ever heard of a tax being repealed?
The premier of the lotus land is one happy go lucky guy that likes to have a drink and then being out of control, likes to tax everything.

  4. Libforlife — No, it is NOT “still warming” — you have absolutely no proof of that. “Libforlife: — good name . . . it communicates rigid, biased and lacking skill in critical thinking.

Now that’s a convincing argument. We have more sand in front of our property this year than I can remember ever being there before. The amount of sand on a beach can change from one storm to another. That doesn’t have anything to do with eroding shoreline.

Since incoming energy in is greater than outgoing energy when measured from the top of the atmosphere then global warming is a fact.

  9. From the source you use; metoffice.gov.uk
    Climate change – Fact 1
Climate change is happening and humans are contributing to it
    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/pressoffice/myths/1.html
    Climate change – Fact 2
    Temperatures are continuing to rise
The recent slight slowing of the warming is due to a shift towards more-frequent La Niña conditions in the Pacific since 1998. These bring cool water up from the depths of the Pacific Ocean, cooling global temperatures.

Fact 3: The current climate change is not just part of a natural cycle
Fact 4: Recent warming cannot be explained by the Sun or natural factors alone
Fact 5: If we continue emitting greenhouse gases this warming will continue and delaying action will make the problem more difficult to fix
Fact 6: Climate models predict the main features of future climate

  10. If you want to know what the “scientists” are going to advocate, just check the average temp when the baby boomers were young (50’s and 60’s.)
If the current temp is hotter than that, we are invariably heading to a fiery hell which will destroy the planet.
If the current temp is colder (like the 1970’s,) we are invariably heading into a million-year ice age.
This generation of narcissistic perpetual children can’t see anything beyond their own petty existence.

  11. Hugger: You said you noticed a sea level rise, I find that interesting since even the converted use a figure of a millimeter a year. Even if you doubled that over a fifty year petiod it would be like 10 cm, you have a keen eye sir, with the tides going up and down and all.
Maybe you just really really want to see it go up to fulfill some need.

    Here you go bob;
Since the end of the last ice age, 18,000 years ago, sea level has risen by over 120 meters.
    * Geological data suggests that global average sea level may have risen at an average rate of 0.1 to 0.2 mm/yr over the last 3000 years.
    * However, tide gauge data indicate that the global rate of sea level rise during the 20th century was 1 to 2 mm/yr.
Along relatively flat coastlines, such as those of the Atlantic, or coastlines bordering fertile, highly populated river deltas, a 1 mm rise in sea level causes a shoreline retreat of about 1.5 meters. We are already seeing evidence of shoreline retreat in the U.S.:
I have learned to keep a copy of postings on this site as so many like to cherry pick bits and pieces and twist them around later.
You might also remember I said Me Ocean doesn’t have a dip stick.
Now if you notice, 1 mm rise in sea level equals the loss of 1.5 meters of shoreline. I have been round these parts off and on for about 50 years. 50 x 1.5 meters = 75 meters. That’s a pretty good sized city building lot.
Now was it necessary to call me a doomsdayer bob? You see, that makes it easy for me to call you a denier. And to say it is easier for some to live in this world that way.
Now bob, I’m not going to answer you again if you don’t answer when I ask you something, like when I asked your thoughts on biofuels and nuclear power generation.

  15. Climate change – Fact 1
Climate change is happening and humans are contributing to it – Climate change has Always happened, and the human component is equivalent to spitting in the ocean.
    Climate change – Fact 2
    Temperatures are continuing to rise
Temperatures were almost 2 degrees C higher 1000 years ago. agw hystericysts (like huggrifter) are worried about One?
Fact 3: The current climate change is not just part of a natural cycle
Right. It is part of a complex of cycles of which the human race is one, Tiny component over a billion years of climate change
Fact 4: Recent warming cannot be explained by the Sun or natural factors alone
Proof please! Notice how your gods keep adjusting data, changing their computer models, and scaling back the changes they claimed would be caused?
Fact 5: If we continue emitting greenhouse gases this warming will continue and delaying action will make the problem more difficult to fix
The PDO disagrees with you. The AMO is about to disagree with you. The SUN disagrees with you. The growing icecaps on Antarctica and Greenland disagree with you. trolls like you and libforlife are the ones truly getting desperate. You can’t even understand that natural ocean tides will eventually rip out a hell of a lot more land than you are trying to save, even if the ocean does not rise one more millimiter!
btw, I notice you did not object to the fact that I am CORRECT about the computer models your gods use.

And that be it for me tonight. Sorry about feeding the trolls, everyone. Although lately trolls seem more like the ‘hungry ghosts’:
“I want this, I need this, 1 have to have this”.
This is the realm of intense craving. The Hungry Ghosts are shown with enormous stomachs and tiny necks – they want to eat, but cannot swallow; when they try to drink. the liquid turns to fire, intensifying their thirst. The torture of the hungry ghost is not so much the frustration of not being able to get what he wants. rather it is his clinging to those things he mistakenly thinks will bring satisfaction and relief. The Buddha in this Realm holds a Bowl from which the ‘gifts of the gods’ are distributed. This is to entice the hungry ghosts to desire for the Truth which is the only way that the deepest longings and hungers can be satisfied.

  16. Kate, your spam filter appears to have eaten my last posting, but I at least still have this much. It occurred to me in answering the huggrifger’s panicked postings, that agw trolls are more like hungry ghosts:

That’s what I thought Ottie. Did you notice most people stopped chanting the mantra when I posted that material? There is a lesson for you to learn there.
And what’s this about? “And with that, have a great weekend (almost) everyone!”
    Aren’t we friends anymore Ottie?
    And what’s a grifger Ottie?

  18. Global warming is the worlds biggist lie and fruad being carried out by unscruplous persons like AL GORE and the sinister greens SCREW ENVIROMENTAL DEFENSE FUND

  19. You apparently did not read my next post, huggrifter the bastard.
I had several links in my post-including one about a lighthouse which has been moved 6 times since it was built due to erosion, and the spam filter ate it.
You are a LIAR, huggrifter the bastard.
And so are the secular gods you worship.
And the more you lie, huggrifter the Bastard, the more that will be added to your name 😀

  20. As to ‘chanting the mantra,’ huggrifter the bastard:
    1) It is the weekend and many are dealing with Life, as I am about to do as soon as I post this;
    2) the only ‘mantra’ we hear around here is ‘the world is warming.’
Just keep ignoring the part where it has warmed hundreds of thousands of times in the past, and will warm again hundreds of thousands of times into the future.

Gettin’ a little unhinged there aren’t ya Ottie?
So, name callin’ now is it Ottie? And threats too! Oooooo.. I guess that confirms we’re not friends anymore eh? Gee Ottie, if I didn’t know better I’d think you were trying to hurt my feelings or sumthin’. You still didn’t explain what a “grifger” is btw.
    You said;
    The PDO disagrees with you
NO OTTIE, the PDO doesn’t disagree with me. The information in my post came from the UK weather office that your blog host used as a reference. If you have a problem with what those “Experts” have to say, I suggest you take it up with them. Just don’t name call like a child, or they likely won’t pay any attention to you.
I will note that using the UK weather people in the original blog entry was for effect and to give credibility. Just so you are aware of that. I know you need things explained to you.
You didn’t even go to the links of the UK weather site did you? If you had, you wouldn’t have posted that feeble defense for 1 to 5. You know Ottie, what I find with most of the links that get posted here is that they are either some other blog operator spouting their own version of things and or purposely misquoting people for effect. Also, often times if you read them, you find more contrary evidence to the point trying to be grifted, than supporting evidence. That is what happened when I took the time to go to the actual UK weather site. This happens a lot.
Largely, its a great big dollup of National Enquirer style presentation. Personally, I don’t even look at the cover of those things at the grocery store check out.
Your lighthouse post does not in anyway disprove what I posted regarding loss of shoreline. That was a poor attempt. I have read that link before btw.
So you put up one link to support one controversial issue, the models. It is controversial. Do you know the meaning of that word? Besides, that’s one out of six. Not a very high batting average Ottie.
If you choose to respond to me in future, lay off the ranting nonsense and just focus on whatever might be relevant, ok? All that gobble de goop about hungry ghosts might make people think poorly of you. I’m not interested in swapping typos with a lunatic.

  22. Greg/Otter: Since the question of the PDO was raised, I just put up a joint post with John Cook over at Skeptical Science about the PDO. I tend to agree with Greg here – the PDO is not really saying anything about global temperatures now and it hasn’t in the past.
    Regards,
    John

  23. Hugger: If I didnt answer a question it was because of oversight, and I apologise for that,I have a business to run and 2 little kids.
Biofuels -waste of time, to much energy going in.
Nuclear energy -I think this is one of the things the GW Agenda is about, “softening up the greens”
so they beg for instead of fight Nuclear energy.
Rememmber where Nuclear was just 5 or 10 years ago.
First we need to make carbon dioxide the boogyman though.

  24. john cross: I’d be interested in seeing your question posed at Climate Audit, rather than on a blog for an article which you co-wrote.

  25. otter: The last time you said something like that to me (except you challenged me to post it over at Watts site) I did and the result of that – the author admitted my analysis was correct.
However if you have concerns about the PDO, drop over and question whatever you wish. You will probably get a better reception over than I do here provided you stick to the science.
    John
