“… than I can my white grandmother*.”
Speaking before an audience that included Marion Barry, Cornel West, Malik Zulu Shabazz of the New Black Panther Party and Nation of Islam official Jamil Muhammad, Wright praised Louis Farrakhan, defended the view that Zionism is racism, accused the United States of terrorism, repeated his view that the government created the AIDS virus to cause the genocide of racial minorities, stood by other past remarks (“God damn America”) and held himself out as a spokesman for the black church in America.
In front of 30 television cameras, Wright’s audience cheered him on as the minister mocked the media and, at one point, did a little victory dance on the podium. It seemed as if Wright, jokingly offering himself as Obama’s vice president, was actually trying to doom Obama; a member of the head table, American Urban Radio’s April Ryan, confirmed that Wright’s security was provided by bodyguards from Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam.
A roundup of reaction.

Obama is done.

“…was actually trying to doom Obama”
the “rev” is just glowin’ hot radioactive
waste… hillary must sure be thanking
whatever gods she worships.

If I were judging Wright’s actions. I would have to say that he appears to be a man who wants to loved and revered. Perhaps his mama neglected him.
He doesn’t feel he can get the love and respect from the American public generally, so he will take the love of the thugs who are cheering him on.
I am pleased with this man. He is working well for me.
Weese dont talk like dem white folks, coz we is right brained. Dey white folks are left brained mean bullies who talk funny. Dem white folks can’t dance coz dey got no ribbon. Dey is just different.
Can you imagine if a white preacher got up and said that in his church.
That’s what America needs… the Nation of Islam at the helm. Sheesh.
The WaPo title says “Wrights Voice could Spell Doom for Obama”
Let’s hope so.If Obama becomes next president, America is doomed.
With friends like that…
And in other news, senseless killing continue in South Chicago, whose homies include Louis Farrakhan, the religious Wright and Obama.
What was that about cleaning up your own back yard before concentrating of changing Washington?
Loved his little victory dance – it really is true that black folks have rhythm.
Imagine the media’s reaction if a white presidential candidate had a rabid white supremacist as his pastor. Well, this guy’s the black equivalent.
He gets a pass from the left-leaning media because of the left’s soft racism of lowered expectations and its attitude of accommodation, appeasement, and approval toward cultural groups that voice their condemnation of the West.
That ANY White person would even contemplate voting for,or supporting these hate-filled,anti-american,negro racists is to me just beyond belief.
This guy is trying to unseat Sharpton as the biggest race baiting dufus around. The guy is 100% racist.
Not just bad news for Obama, really bad news for the Democratic Party.
Couldn’t happen to nicer, more deserving folks.
p>
Obamarama, it is hoped, will not sweep away the intelligence of the American voter in the way Trudeaupia swept up Canadians in a wave of emotion in the 60s, in part due to the much maligned primary process which exposes the candidates to voters for a much longer period of time.
You know, it must be such a waste of time for both Democratic candidates..fighting for their lives only to be completely decimated by McCain. I think the size of his win will rival Reagan. Just a hunch…
This is not scarier than Bush and his crack pot conspiracy theories with Iraq having chemical weapons and stuff.
But Bush acted on his delusions with tax payers money and caused thousands of dead people.
Wright is only all words.

Did you miss the book by the Iraqi air force general which revealed Iraq’s WMD’s were transported to Syria?
aqs:
February 02, 2006
(CNSNews.com) – A former Iraqi general alleges that in June 2002 Saddam Hussein transported weapons of mass destruction out of the country to Syria aboard several refitted commercial jets, under the pretense of conducting a humanitarian mission for flood victims.
That’s one of several dramatic claims made in the book by former Iraqi General Georges Sada: “Saddam’s Secrets: How an Iraqi General Defied and Survived Saddam Hussein.” Since the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sada has served as the spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi and continues to serve as national security advisor. He is the former vice marshal of the Iraqi Air Force. Sada was interviewed at the headquarters of Cybercast News Service on Jan. 30.
Sada contends that Saddam took advantage of a June 4, 2002, irrigation dam collapse in Zeyzoun, Syria, to ship the weapons under cover of an aid project to the flooded region.
“[Saddam] said ‘Okay, Iraq is going to do an air bridge to help Syria,” Sada recounted. Two commercial jets, a 747 and 727, were converted to cargo jets, in order to carry raw materials and equipment related to WMD projects, Sada said. The passenger seats, galleys, toilets and storage compartments were removed and new flooring was installed, he claimed. Hundreds of tons of chemicals were reportedly included in the cargo shipments. [See Video]
BTW, you can find the complete article by googling ‘Iraq Syria WMD.’
This story is more that two years old, for gawd’s sake! Get with the program.
This is bad news for McCain. This is happening too early. If Clinton does well in the remaining primaries, the super-super delegates will offer her the nomination provided she picks Obama for VP. It has to be this way because Clinton will only accept President and will destroy the party if necessary. Obama will accept VP; he’s still young and probably never expected to get as far as he has. That will heal the party and make sure all their voters stay loyal. Clinton/Obama is the only ticket sure to beat McCain/Whoever.
“crack pot conspiracy theories with Iraq having chemical weapons and stuff”
I guess this means you don’t believe Saddam used helicopters to spray horrible and illegal chemical weapons on hundreds (yes, hundreds) of Kurdish villages, I wonder why? It’s certainly been well documented and all intelligent, sane, well-informed people believe this happened. Why do you think it’s “crack pot”?
Getting back to the topic …
Is the religious Wright on crack, pot or both?
The idea that america should apology to the black for slavery. I am 100% for it. Nothing wrong with that: USA should apologize.
He hates USA? so what, I hate Canada too. I can understand that.
What’s really scary is the theory that AIDS was created by white people blabla.. there is no proof ever of that.
Also his extremist religious messages about God and religion and black church. I am an atheist and most religious people are delusional, I know that very well.
abcd: The USA (french war criminals also) killed thousand of vietnamese people with napalm (chemical weapon). Thousands of vietnamese babies are born each years with deformity 40 yrs after. Now should Canada invade USA to take away USA chemical weapons?
“This is not scarier than Bush and his crack pot conspiracy theories with Iraq having chemical weapons and stuff.”
Actually, Iraq DID have chemical weapons! How do we know?
Its a matter of record that the US sold them to him.
Horny toad
Sorry gang I cant agree with you guys on this one.
I did hear the entire conference today, twice, and I rather enjoyed it.
I thought a lot of his points were quite valid
I enjoyed the commentary with a different point of view.
Seriously I am just a white guy from the praires how can I understand and just dismiss his and obviously many others point of view.
If “some” of the posters on here did not hear it all they should as well as the original sermon that the offensive clip is taken from.
The clips and sound bites do not do it justice.
If you did hear it all and we dont agree that is understandable.
aqs:
What the religious Wright preaches is not religion.
A former ambassador to the UN identified it as a form of liberation theology.
It has appeared before in African and South American countries.
What the ambassador stated, in a couple of Glenn Beck interviews, was this is a form of ‘religion’ which curiously appears in countries with marxist governments.
The totalitarian utopians use their divide-and-conquer techniques of breaking down societies into victims and oppressors and infiltrate the churches.
I am a religious person and most atheists are ignorant about what’s involved in true religion. I know that very well.
There. Now, we’re even on the stereotyping, even though I did qualify my reasons to believe atheists are ignorant.
Most religious people I know are compassionate, honest, hard-working.
Maybe you’re just hanging around with the wrong crowd.
Set you free
I saw that part of your source was Glen beck that is a man with his own unbalanced agenda too.
It is hard for any of us to get a balanced view point as most of the media has their own slant one way or the other.
roc:
The point was not which show the former ambassador to the UN appeared on.
The point is what the ambassador said and who the ambassador is … a black man who understands the nature of Wright’s ilk.
I understand what you are saying Set You Free but I am willing to bet (like most people on this site) that this would be a rare moment that you agree with a UN rep?
roc:
When somebody has something interesting to say, it’s best to avoid getting overly parochial.
AQS virtually all political leaders in the industrial world felt that there was a high likelyhood that Iraq had WMD – including Hillary and Bill Clinton and French Government.
Hugh has a full 3 hrs of interview with and assistant to secretary of defense Rumsfeld at his site hughhewitt.com – doug fieth April 23rd. You might find what he has to say very enlightening and not entirely complementary of the defense and CIA and state dept bureaucracy.
ROC – his comments and conduct at the presser were repugnant. He did not back off of anything he said in the prior sermons including ones were he said that the US was the same as al queda in its tactics and morality. BO has dropped the ball by not immediately condemning Wright. McCain wins in a walk.
ROC:
This from the speech as quoted in the WAPO article above:
“His views on Farrakhan and Israel? “Louis said 20 years ago that Zionism, not Judaism, was a gutter religion. He was talking about the same thing United Nations resolutions say, the same thing now that President Carter’s being vilified for and Bishop Tutu’s being vilified for. And everybody wants to paint me as if I’m anti-Semitic because of what Louis Farrakhan said 20 years ago. He is one of the most important voices in the 20th and 21st century; that’s what I think about him. . . . Louis Farrakhan is not my enemy. He did not put me in chains, he did not put me in slavery, and he didn’t make me this color.””
The guy supports the extinction of Israel if he agrees with the UN resolutions and Jimmy freaking Carter. He should be vilified just as Farrakhan and JC.
Some columnists and bloggers have been theorizing that this may be all a part of an uber sister souljah moment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sister_Souljah_moment) – that it sets the scene for BO to make a dramatic break from Wright/Sharpton/farrakhan. If that is the plan, it won’t work in part because people are already looking for it, but mostly because it will come about two months too late.
AQS
Its time for another referendum. But this time a whole bunch of ‘Severly regular’ Canadians would like to participate also. Okay? Okay!
We should be able to assure your/our victory.
And no slithering back! Okay? Okay!
Good! Lets get at it.
CRB
It is hard to take Wright serioulsy when he looks so much like Abe Simpson.
AQS, 12:13 AM: “He hates USA? so what, I hate Canada too.”
The difference is that Wright, as opposed to les Quebecois, has an independent African-American state to go to -> Liberia. Same with any Afro-Canadians with the same views – Sierra Leone was established by a boatload of Nova Scotians who “went back home”. Too bad both countries are only now emerging from hellish chaos.
—————–
“The idea that america should apology to the black for slavery. I am 100% for it. Nothing wrong with that: USA should apologize.”
At least a trillion-dollar bill attached to such an apology. How many Montreal technology companies are attached to American firms who would go bankrupt from the bill? Not to mention the millions of Americans of Quebecois descent who I suppose would be exempt from payment in your world, AQS?
Where is the apology for slavery in New France before 1759, AQS? And the mass displacement of Aboriginals by les Habitants? Vous habite dans un maison de glas, monsieur.
America apologized for slavery with 600,000 dead in the Civil War.
You say you hate Canada, ags? Then, like we say in America: Leave!
It has to be this way because Clinton will only accept President and will destroy the party if necessary. Obama will accept VP; he’s still young and probably never expected to get as far as he has.
randall q,
So you want the black man in back of the BUS!
I think that was a Dixie-crat plank. Robert Bryd must love your logic.
BTW: Gore will be in Denver…good things come in threes
apologize for slavery, to who? people apologizing for something they didn’t do to people to whom it wasn’t done. duh.
“I think the size of his win will rival Reagan. Just a hunch…”
McCain seems happy to flub this. Let’s be careful not to count our chickens before they come home to roost 😉
Wright revealed himself to be completely and unapologetically on the fringe. He is toxic to Obama and this should make it easier to completely condemn the views.
If Obama cannot find the way to do it convincingly then he doesnt deserve the nomination.
Unlike some I was willing to cut him some slack for trying to be decent to the person who opened his eyes to his faith. I am not a particularly religous person but I would suspect that puts that person is a pretty unique place personally.
However, the decency isnt being returned, maybe one shouldnt expect it. Wright has made it very very simple and may have done him a favour. I think you need to be careful to not condem someone for knowing someone who has unfavourable views. Do you want soemone who only runs in circles that agrees with them, i.e. HRC?
I dont expect Obama to be the choice on this board, thats fine, but if you had to choose between Obama and HRC who would you choose?
But these are the tests and the reason why the primary system continues to exist. If Obama cant pass this test he doesnt deserve the nomination.
Obama: please make up your mind. Either you are an extreme left wing Marxist or you are a Wright wing extremist. Or have you somehow managed to become both at the same time?
How can someone sit in a church pew and listen to a preacher spew the diatribe we’ve heard examples of from Reverend Wright and not agree with it? He was Obama’s preacher until his wild rantings became public, then he became his “former preacher’.
Right on, old white guy @7:28 AM!
This inane apologizing for acts of others going back generations is as dumb as it gets. It’s purely a political pandering tactic. We can feel saddened by many things done throughout history but we can’t apologize for something we ourselves did not do.
We are not responsible for the acts of others who went before us. We can only learn from it and insure it doesn’t happen again.
It now comes to light that certain Clinton supporters arranged to have Wright speak yesterday.
Source-FOX news 4/29/08
As someone said on fox last night (o’reilly perhaps) the views of wright are very similar to the talking points of the ultra-far left – Ayers’ views for example. Same stuff couched in different diction and choreography. and if you want to hear “bitter” rhetoric listen to one of Obama’s Mrs. Except the bitter one is her.
I think BO’s personal views are not that far off of Wright and co. His original colour-blind message looks more and more to be an ‘up with people’ cover for some very far-left policies.
And to answer your question Stephen I would choose HRC in an instant – always would have. Sure she would be a disaster but at least their would be some pragmatism.
Congratulations, President McCain.
Rev. Wright brings back the good ‘ol memories:
http://politicalhumor.about.com/b/2004/01/21/howard-dean-scream-remixes.htm
Good on Wright. At least he can be honest on what he believes, unlike his star congregate.
What is going on with black leaders in the US, are they afraid of a black President. Sharpton is going to shut down NYC, Wright is out there doing his thing, turning off white voters.
Would a black President put a lie to the claim that blacks are hard done by. Listen to Bill Cosby, and he is also scorned by the black leaders.
I think Sharpton and Jackson and others have done more to keep the black population down, than lift them up.
Tornados hit yesterday and today we see people out helping themselves, same with the majority of residents of cities hit by hurricanes. What happened in N.O. after katrina hit, everyone sat and waited for somebody else to come fwd and help, yet they re-elected the Mayor. Sort of like voters in TO.
Regardless, McCain will sweep the election and Sharpton and Jackson can continue to make a fortune with their rhetoric about how racist the US is.
Story at NNW that the economy has taken over in QP from phony scandals. Seems after being home for a week MPs discovered that voters are tired of the liberal and media and their gotch schemes.
Not a vote getter.
Union guys on cbc now crying about job losses in Oshawa. Blames PMSH for all the troubles. Seems to think that our PM can cure the economic downtrend in the USA.
The seem to want the dollar pegged to help exports.
Not once did I hear them offer to lower wages to match other countries, (US) or reduce benefits, or health coverage.
The facts are that GM is more interested in their bottom line than some workers job.
Maybe a better product should be built to compete with those foreign countries.
Time for unions to accept the fact, you do not have a right to a life time job.
It seems all their troubles are the governments, but the never mentioned the Prov government.
These problems have been coming for years, and for years it was liberals who managed the economy.
And it is liberals and ndp who manage Ont and the cities.
“I thought a lot of his points were quite valid

– wright of centre
Some people might like to imagine that Wright is a fringe player in the identity politics game.
He is NOT … in fact he is disturbingly representative of the mindset that pervades populist churches across the Western World.
Just ask your self this question… What is the reason for the existence of a group of “Black” churches?
The answers should provide all the understanding you need on the matter of Wright. I will not call him ‘reverend’ …
As to Obamma’s relationship …. he blew it in the first two days of this hitting the MSM.
OMMAG:
Even to have a ‘black’ church seems contrary to scripture.
Not sure off-hand which passage this is, but it’s somewhere in the Bible.
“Whether Jew or Greek, man or woman, rich or poor … all are equal in the eyes of God.”
If the brand of liberation theology the religious Wright preaches sounds vaguely marxists, with its race divisions, that’s because it is.
There’s a pull quote on the National Post front page today from Wright’s speech.
“Louis Farrakhan is not my enemy. He did not put me in chains, he did not put me in slavery and he didn’t make me this colour.”
Guess what, rev? Neither did I.
And, guess what else, rev? I’m not into collective guilt.
Now, instead of blaming everybody else, try to say something about working on making you and your congregations better and more responsible people.
Wright revealed himself to be completely and unapologetically on the fringe. He is toxic to Obama and this should make it easier to completely condemn the views.
That is one point of View:
Wright is just reminding Hillary what may happen if they lynch Obama. Nothing like an unreasonable group of thugs.. lead by Wright & Sharpton
Obama has won the nomination, he just needs to keep it away from the Clinton Thugs.
Queue the not so subtle threat, and Hillary may be the only one to understand or not.
