Bad Voodoo

A heads-up, via email;

In June 2007, as the American military surge reached its peak, a band of National Guard infantrymen who call themselves “The Bad Voodoo Platoon” was deployed to Iraq. To capture a vivid, first-person account of the new realities of war in Iraq for FRONTLINE and ITVS, director Deborah Scranton (The War Tapes) created a “virtual embed” with the platoon, supplying camer as to the soldiers so they could record and tell the story of their war. The film intimately tracks the veteran soldiers of “Bad Voodoo” through the daily grind of their perilous mission, dodging deadly IEDs, grappling with the political complexities of dealing with Iraqi security forces, and battling their fatigue and their fears.

Bad Voodoo’s War is scheduled for Tuesday, Apr.1 at 9pm on Frontline. (Check local listings)

  1. PBS will also be airing, at the end of April, a 10-part (10 hour?)series on a US Navy aircraft carrier, the Nimitz, if I recall correctly. KCTS of Seattle ran a half-hour promo for the series last night. A film crew, comprising a dozen and a half producers, technicians, etc, was allowed to embed with the craft for an entire mission (deployment). Looks very interesting.

  2. Saw the preview of Carrier a few nights back.
    Except for the no beer thing, it could have been shot aboard a HMC Ship on a long deployment.
    The size of the ship and its role matter not. Sailors are sailors and working 12 hours plus a day for 40 plus days in a row is something I hope they can get across. Hell it is not umcommon for a carrier to do 100 plus days at sea.
    I am looking forward to this series!

  3. Just bear in mind when watching any PBS program that PBS is a lefty-saturated outfit. It’s not as bad as CBC or the Beeb but definitely lefty.

  4. Dave in Pa, Although PBS might have some left leaning moments the BIG difference is that PBS is funded by viewer contributions and grants from private companies and not totally on the taxpayer’s back like CBC or BBC. I for one would be all for making CBC the PBS of the north.

  5. Dave beat me to it, but, he’s right on the money. PBS has a few good shows interspersed between many that are incredibly biased to the left. I feel your pain re the CBC and BBC. I’ve read many comments from UK taxpayers decrying the fact that money is taken from them and used to broadcast programs that are diametrically opposed to their own value system. We do, however, have the National Endowment for the Arts, which gives my money to mindless twits to construct anti-American and anti-Christian “artworks.”

  6. Too bad this war for Israel and big business is still claiming young American lives. Hopefully the people will wake up soon and see this mass deception for what it is before more lives are wasted for nothing.
